I'm starting to see the attraction of becoming a beach bum. Last night I slept out on the beach under the stars and it was amazing.

[Stiles]

How you doing, buddy? Haven't seen you since the picnic.

I'm doing fine. What about you? What's with the camp out on the beach?

I'm actually kinda great, given everything that's happening right now. School'll be starting soon and it's going to get crazy-busy, so I figured I'd make the most of the beach while it was here.

Screwing up the whole Cora-thing, but I'm used to sucking at that stuff.

So, you and Lyd seem pretty happy...

No clue. Moved to fast, or too slow or didn't say the right thing at the right time or... who knows?

It's good, man. Really good to see. I'm glad you're happy.

You're really clueless when it comes to Cora...

Yeaaaaaah...why are you being weird?

She's kinda different. Which leaves me utterly clueless and trying to do the right thing whilst making it harder than it should be.

What? Can't I be happy for you? That's not weird, it's just me being me!

You just have to do things a little differently with her.

Yes, you can. You just seem extremely happy over us. I'm just trying to figure out why.

Happy to take advice here, buddy! It's not like I'm some Don Juan at the best of times.

It feels good to see you two so tight. Almost like there could be good things coming, if you know what I'm saying... level with me, buddy.

The 1960s. Sex, drugs, pot 'n' roll? Probably how most of our parents got here?

Other worlds. Right. The 60s was weird. People were incredibly laid back and flocked to the beach to live, among other stuff.

It didn't stay good for too long but it changed the way our entire world thought of people. I guess a night under the stars is one thing but a decade was too much.

Aye? How did a decade of sleeping under stars make people think differently?

I grew up in Cali, so outdoors is pretty much in my blood. It's a relief to be in the open air instead of the city, you know?

I've been all around, but I prefer the sun to the cold. It reminds me of summer on the reservation. Just with cocktails and beach fashion.

I've never visited a reservation before. What's it like? The sun has a lot going for it but it can get too much sometimes back home.

The material conditions aren't always great, but the community's a lot more close-knit and it's easy to get off by yourself if you need to. It's ended up being a strange sort of mix of people from different tribes and nations so there isn't necessarily blood ties, everyone's just there because they want to be. It's nice.

Maybe if we ever move to a place near a reservation you could show me? It sounds like somewhere I should visit, at least once in my life.
