In light of current events, many residents may find themselves struggling with an overwhelming sense of anxiety and dread. Distressing and traumatic memories may reemerge.

The spike in cortisol caused by this stress may also cause physical symptoms to develop such as flu-like symptoms, insomnia, or frequent headaches.

Please do not feel the need to “tough it out” for these or any other symptoms. Help is available, free of charge, and completely confidential.

I am a licensed psychiatrist and psychologist and I will be at Ostrich's Villa Health Center if anyone requires assistance in processing their experiences. Or if they would simply like someone to talk to.

Please do not hesitate to contact me privately if the location hinders you from receiving treatment.

- Jonathan Crane, M.D., PhD.

Yeah no kidding. I'm really enjoying having these past events brought back into my life.

Theoretically, what would you do for the insomnia?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]doctorcrane
2019-08-04 05:52 pm UTC (link)
Ideally, the patient would tell me their medical history so root causes could be examined and resolved. However, a purely hypothetical insomniac might try certain over the counter treatments which have shown positive results in clinical trials.

They could use 4-6mg melatonin or up to 50mg of CBD thirty minutes before bed. I would, however, strongly discourage them from using CBD that retains THC without a thorough examination of their family medical history to rule out any potential negative effects.

I would also encourage them to examine their sleep hygiene to lower conditioned arousal responses.

You’re welcome.

If this hypothetical patient still has difficulties sleeping, please encourage them to arrange for a visit with the doctor.

It's situational, not chronic. And I have a terrible history with mental health professionals I just nee

It can be helpful to address the underlying stressors. If you would like, we could arrange for an initial consultation to discuss these factors.

If not that should provide some immediate relief.

That is a horrifying thing to have experienced, and you’re wise to be wary of giving medical professionals free reign after that.

Poor boy. All cooped up in the clinic with nothing to do but crossword puzzles. I’d tell you to have patience and wait for a good gruesome emergency but I doubt there’ll be any.

Why don’t you be a dear and go find something fun for any children that come in? Candy, stickers, character themed band-aids...then when you get back you can start on that list!

Flatterer.

Alright, I'll be back shortly. You know how to reach me if you think of anything else you'd like me to pick up while I'm out. I think I remember enough of my time in pediatrics to know what I need to stock up on. I should get something nice for Jason while I'm out too.
