I believe perhaps I have taken my whimsy a bit too far this time...

It is, and a trait I also seem to be over-indulging in today. Did you find yourself here too?

I'm afraid I have, without a solitary explanation I can conjure that does not make me sound absolutely mad.

I'm not convinced I haven't gone mad, but that would lead to a "we're all mad" here situation and I'd rather not go down that road yet.

Forgive me, I do not believe I am familiar with that reference, but I do tend to believe everyone is a little mad in some fashion. Without a touch of madness here or there, everything would be quite a bore.

It's from a children's novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll that has since been made into various films. In that case, you have a similar philosophy as the Cheshire Cat, although I'm more inclined to agree with you.

Perhaps a tamer version of this Cat, then? This novel seems very nonsensical. I must read it.

Forgive my manners, I seem to have gotten carried away. I am Elizabeth Bennet.

Perhaps a little. He does like to live on the wild side. Very nonsensical and full of rather unusual and interesting creatures. I'll see about finding you a copy.

Arriving in an unusual place unexpectedly can do that. You can call me Nick. Nick Halden.

Just a little. I am afraid the wildest thing I've ever done by society's standards is to enjoy walking no matter the weather. That is very kind of you, though. You have my gratitude.

It is a pleasure to- well I do not suppose you could call this 'meeting' but for lack of a better term, I shall opt to refer to it as such. It is a pleasure to meet you, Nick.

Now you've somehow managed to travel through time and space by turning up here. You're already on the edge of having a wild and new adventure. We'll have to find a way to make some excitement for you here.

The pleasure is all mine, Elizabeth. Your name does ring a bell or two, actually. You don't happen to have several sisters do you?

I am trying not to dwell too much on the traveling, but it seems you are right. There is not a doubt in my mind that there is much excitement to be had in this "Goodland".

Does it? I...yes, I have four sisters.

You might be right about not dwelling on the traveling too much, especially today. I'll think about that tomorrow. At Tara. We'll have to wait and see if this "Goodland" is aptly named. The backdrop of the cityscape, though, is one of the best places in the world.

It could be possible that I'm mixing you up with another Bennet family, but... I may have heard of a few members of your family in my time.

Tomorrow it is for the both of us when it comes to thinking too much on the circumstances of our arrival. What city is this meant to be, then?

Well, there are a couple of my sisters determined to make a name for themselves. Though, I am not so sure it is a name my father wishes them to have. May I ask, when exactly your time is...or as it seems at present? Was.

New York City, New York. Manhattan island, specifically. It's one of my favorite places in the world.

Making a name for yourself isn't always a bad thing, but I guess it may depend on how one goes about doing so. And then it depends on who you ask as to where you are on the scale. It was around 2014 in my time before I showed up, but I think even I may have been a few years behind where we are now.

America? This shouldn't be the most shocking declaration of the day but I digress...I am pleased for you that we have somehow stumbled onto one of your favorite places.

Opinions tend to hold a lot of weight, even if you choose to walk through life unbothered by them.

2014. There are far too many things diverting my mind to properly calculate the years, but I am from 1812.

Yep, welcome to the New World. Or whatever version of it this may be.

You're not wrong there. Actions and their consequences do have a habit of following us around whether we like it or not.

It's like your right out of a nineteenth century novel.
