The Compass, for [info]lilyseyes
Title: The Compass
Artist: [info]umbrus
Giftee: [info]lilyseyes
Rating: R and does fluffiness count?
Pairing: Snarry
Warnings: (please continue to warn for DH spoilers) nudity
Disclaimer: Do you see Severus chasing Harry or vice versa? Well, ok maybe we do, sometimes, but I still don't own Harry Potter.
Summary: Severus giving Harry his Christmas present.
Artist Notes: I know you asked for NC-17 but this was as close as I got. I think it works well for what you wanted as the scenario (Severus wants the perfect gift for Harry, one that will express what he can't verbalize and bonus if Severus thinks Harry might be slipping away from him). I tried to work in the slipping away part though I don't know if it actually came across. I hope you like it!

Lol, well I'm glad that I could make you so happy! No one's ever labeled a comment of mine as being among "the best they've ever gotten" before. ^__^

Fanfic makes the world go round. :) I've been addicted to it since I found it back in '03 or '04...though slash is a sliiiiightly more recent addiction. Only slightly. xD

*salutes* You've got it, boss-person! I'll let you know when it's finished...or perhas it'd be better to inform you when it's been begun? *stares at that sentence* *waves at her retreating grasp of grammar* Byebye, grammar... xD;

Sorry, NaNoWriMo is eating my brain. Apparently it tastes good. xD (I'm high on lack of sleep, please pardon any randomness at the moment. xD)

Oh, and the fic's been begun. :D Though I've a timeline question... or more along the lines of "I see Harry being about 17 in this pic, though he shall always be small and cute and vaguely femenine to my mind, so how old do you, the artist, place him at"?

...*decides to leave well enough alone before she gets even weirder and potentially scares you away*

No worries, I know what it's like to run on lack of sleep, I do it all the time though usually school induced, stupid program is designed to eat not only our brains but our souls as well.

it's begun? wow! Harry's age well... I don't really know. I know he looks like his young in the pic (my people tend to look young unless I make an effort to make them look older). I don't really care how old he is, pick something that fits the fic though I think I will always think of him as small and cute and young. ^_^

I highly doubt you can actually scare me (well as long as no um... "interesting" fetishes are involved). All things considered I might actually scare you if I'm not careful *smirk*. Wait smirking is not really a none-scary thing to do is it? um...I take it back?

Hahaha, but see, it's entirely my own fault that I'm so tired. xD

Only a few sentences, but I shall start working on it tomorrow...or, you know, whenever I'm something resembling sane and awake at the same time. xD Even though I really really really should be working on my own Snarry_hols entry... And yes, Harry shall ALWAYS be small and cute and young forever n evern ever! (I totally freak if I see him written as being more than 5'6-5'8 in height anymore, and personally I always see him as being 5'4 *at the most*. But then I'm a midget. [5'2], so I'm sure I'm biased. xD)

Hmmm.. What's you calls "interesting"? Cause different people have different defintions of "interezzzzzzting", and generally more proper spelling, too. Sorri~~~~~~~~ xD Oh, it's fine. Right now, everything is giggle worthy. Even the fact that I can hardly spell correctly at the moment.

*falls asleep on keyboard*

sane and awake is good, I think... well I supposed it still depends on the definition of sane cause some people would say I've never qualified.

for me interesting includes many things but to give you the short of it: anything involving any unnecessary bodily fluids, humiliation, excessive pain and bestiality. Anything else I might not like much and won't look for but am ok with these are just the stuff that has me going ewww and backbackback.

Also, what is this spelling that you are referring to? I don't know nothing of this.

True, true, it does depend, because some people have odd ideas of what sane is. Most people don't think I'm terribly sane either, so you're very much not alone. xD

Ah, I see. Yeah, those are all kinda wayyy too... yeah. I can understand not liking those ones... How anyone finds some things arousing will forever be beyond me.

Iunno, but people kinda say it's necessary for to be understood. Bah. Who cares what they say! xDDD

heheh, haven't these people heard of telepathy, works waaay better than spelling. ^_^

The people who find them arousing probably have seriously cross-wired brains or something. What did you expect I'd say? cross-dressing? toe-fetishes? light S&M?

I don't look for those but I can see why some people would like them and I don't really care what they do as long as they don't make me do them (or watch). Really I'd like to think of myself as open minded (I mean I'll try pretty much anything once with some exceptions mostly what's listed and drugs, I see and know what they do to ever want try them) so as long as there is some sense in it and no one is being hurt I don't care.

now, what do you call sane? (though that's probably harder to define) mostly I think everyone is insane on some level, just depends on how much and in what way.

P.S. this is becoming a really looong chat isn't it? oh well, it's fun, interesting and way better than school.

Yeah! Telepathy really needs to catch on! Backwards heathens. D: xDDD

Yeah, probably. Eh, i dunno what I was expecting. I know some people have a problem with things like that.. (cross-dressing!Harry = pure love, imo. x3) But I know fanfic has made me a lot more open-minded. xD

Yeah, I think that it would be, at least, interesting to try a lot of things, if only to see what it's like, but there are some things I will never do. I admit that I have never seen the appeal of drugs... though I suppose smoking and drinking kinda fall under that. But I only intend to get drunk once just to say I did (I suspect I won't like it, but hell. How many people turn 21 and don't try it? xD), and I have seriously thought about smoking. *shrug* but otherwise.. newp. I have enough trouble with making myself take pain relievers and cold medicine! xD

Hm. That's an interesting question, actually. I dunno what sane is. xDDD That's probably true, lol. Some of us just show it more! xD

Long chats are awesome! How else do people get to know one another? :D

Heheh long chats are awesome, especially if they are amusing. This seems alot more like having a pen pale that you write to everyday (I’ve never had a pen pale but this is turning out well and you haven’t ran away cause of my horrid spelling, grammar and sentence structure. So YAY!).

As for getting to know people, I think 20 questions is also an effective way to get to know people. Well, I supposed there is always watching them like a creepy stalker that however is not recommended. ^_^

I’m of drinking age (it’s 19 in Canada) and have yet to get completely drunk. Really despite my willingness to try things at least once, I haven’t done that much though I do think that’s the best way to know things for sure, unless its hurting you or some else cause really I don’t need to try self-mutilation to know that I won’t like it and won’t ever see why people do it.

I blame my lack of interesting (the good kind of interesting) experiences partly on my laziness and partly on the fact that I have no one willing to do it with me. Damn it! trying new, completely random things just isn’t as fun if you are doing it on your own! That doesn’t really hold for the alcohol though that’s mostly cause I haven’t found anything I like the taste of and my parents will probably kill me.

-Lian (thought is was about time I signed my name, after all I’ve had the unfair advantage of being able to look though you’re IJ for a while now. Though my name probably won’t help you in finding anything so that's probably not voilating any rules *g*)

Haha. I've seen worse spelling, grammar and sentence structure. Sad, innit? xD

True. You know, I've never actually played 20 questions? xD The stalked bit made me LOL. :D

Ooh, a Canadian. :D Self mutilation... tch. I have low pain tolerance, so that's another thing I'll never do, lol. Doing things for oneself is the best way to learn things. :)

Lol, but being lazy is fuuuunn :D! Though doing stuff by oneself can be terribly boring and lonely. Most alcohol tastes like crap, though wine coolers and Smirnoff taste pretty good, as does flavoured beer. (Also pina coladas. What? I've tried sips of them before, though my parents aren't big drinkers, so there's no actual alcohol in the house, unless you count rubbing alcohol and various vinegars. Haha. Oh. I think there's whiskey somewhere... maybe some apricot brandy, unless that got used up...)

xD So, question: You gonna friend me after the swap wraps up? :D?

I've never played 20 questions either though I've done something like it, I think (I'm not sure how its actually played).

Sadly, I've also seen people with worse English skill than I and they are native English speakers (I was born in China and did most of grade school there) which really make me wonder about the school system. *shudders*

Smirnoff tastes good? well, I'll have to try it sometimes. No one drinks in my (parents) house so there is nothing but I get offered free beer from one of the clubs every once a month. Unfortunately, I think beer is one of the worst tasting alcohol you can find. Stupid bitter tasting things... *glare*

And of course I'll friend you after the swap (and maybe mave this chat off the swap com), actually if it wasn't for the swap I'd have friended you several posts ago. You seem to be of the interestingly insane sort, which I like. *g*

now the question is when I friend you do I get friended back? ^_^

I don't know how it's played either. xD

Yeah, I know what you mean. (Ooh, China? Awesome! Can you speak Chinese?)

Beer is disgusting. Smells gross, tastes gross.. blah. How can anyone drink it? xP But yeah, Smirnoff is pretty good, from what I remember.

Yay! I always need more friends! :D Interestingly insane, huh? Awesome! It's what I strive for!

Certainly you shall! :D

yay for new friends! everyone always needs more friends. ^_^

Everyone is insane to me! they are just insane in different ways. There is like scary insane, boring insane, psycotically insane, creepily insane, interestingly insane and you-are-so-like-my-prof insane. oh I think there is also in-denial insane for all the people who keeps saying they are "normal".

ya, I can speak Chinese and read it (I've completely forgotten how to write in it though, well without a dictionary). Well, Mandarin anyways cause I'm from mainland. Well, on this subject do you speak any other languages?

Some people like the taste of beer, I don't understand it but they found it to be rich. Blah

Yaayyy! :D

LOL I like your descriptions of various types of insanity. That's brilliant. (Normal? WTF is normal?! xDDD)

Ooh, awesome. As for me... I have very, verryyyy basic understanding of French, Spanish, and German.. and I can speak Japanese kinda well, but I'm nowhere near terribly competent in it. Oh well. (I wanna be a linguist/archaeologist. Awesome fodder for stories in those jobs. :D)

Blah indeed. Oh. What is you-are-so-like-my-prof insane like? I'm curious now. :P

Ya, the people who insist they are normal really annoy me. I mean how the hell do they know they're mental state or beliefs or behavior coincide with more than 50% of the world's population! well, there really isn't a normal state that would describe more than 50% of the population. I could go on but I won't.

As for you-are-so-like-my-prof insane, this is a special category reserved for people who somethings (about 70% of the time) says things that doesn't make sense the first time around because they speak entirely in differentials, integrals and eigen vectors. If you don't know what they are or how horrid they can become, you are lucky. Stupid things are all from high-level math and they give me no end of headaches (I doing Engineering Science, for some strange reason we need to learn more math than the math majors. Stupid soul sucking program!)

Ohhh! lots of languages! that's so cool and awesome. I wish I knew more languages especially Japanese cause I really want to go there and well actually experience the culture. Really traveling the world would be so much fun and ya linguist/archaeologist would be awesome fodder for stories with all the cool things you are likely to see. Is that what you are studying?

I'll stop now, in fear of sounding too pushy or creepy or what have you and scaring/creeping you out.

*nodnod* I don't think there is any way to define "normal" short of a place where every bit of behaviour is proscribed. And honestly, the world would be HELLA boring if everyone were "normal". (When are those colonies on the Moon and Mars going up, again? xDD)

Agh. @_@ I see. Math is... *shudders* I hate it with a passion, and I can only do up to basic algebra with any sort of ease. :P It just does not make sense to me at all past there, even if I can do it with a little okay, a lot of work. Haha. (More math than math majors? WTF is up with that? xD;;)

Oh, I have this plan to have written and at least basic spoken understanding of at least 15 languages before I die. At LEAST. (Yes, I AM a language geek, how ever did you guess? xDD) Traveling the world would be totally awesome...a shame it takes a hellacious amount of money to do. :P Nah, I'm not studyig it yet - no money for college/uni. But I will. I WILL. *shakefist at sky*

Haha, it takes a loootttt more than that to creep me out. :P I'm the sort of person who likes to scare themselves by reading Stephen King before bed. xDDDD

ya, I think I'd die of boredom or horror if everyone was the same.

Language geek, huh? Awesome! (is that why your username is in what I think is Japanese?)

I'd love to be able to learn languages. I need to be in the environment to learn a language and even than it only goes as far a spoken. I hate writing, freaking spelling and grammar always confuses me and I never get it perfect.

I've always wanted to see the world, to see all kinds of different thing! and of course try them! Anything new is interesting to me and anything I don't know makes me curious so going to different places is a must. Plus I'd get to see all the culture and history... I'll see the world one day, I will. Really that's part of the reason I'm doing engineering science and putting up with all the evil evil things. This way I can do less school and make more money, eventually I'll have enough to do everything and have everything I really want.

In the mean time I'll settle for planning, dreaming and taking electives that interests me (this year I'm doing introductory linguistics which thankfully doesn't require detailed knowledge of any specific language).

I'm sure if you wanted enough you'll get to work in linguistics or archeology eventually. With the way the world works for us if we wanted something enough and tried hard enough we can pretty much get a job in any field. Anyways, which 15 languages are you aiming for? and dare I add "why?" ^_^

So would I. Think of what I'd have to do to get a thrill if everyone else were carbon copies of one another! xD

Yes, that is why, and yes, it is Japanese. It means, roughly, wish on a star. ^_^

I've never tried total immersion in anything to learn it, except writing and drawing, and considering where I am now re both of those, I guess it's probably a good system for me. :P Spelling and grammar thumb their noses at EVERYONE. They just do it more blatantly at some people. xDDD

Oh goodness, yes. Foreign cultures and languages and history and... yeah. One culture I really wish I could see in the flesh is that of Ancient Egypt... talk about WOW. ^__^ Planning and dreaming make everything more tolerable. :D (You'll have to tell me more about that Introductory Linguistics course at some point. Hehe.)

Yeah, true. I just have to get over my ACK-PEOPLE-mustbeshy!!! thing. Seriously, being around people irl makes me make like a clam. xDDD Wouldn't be able to tell it from this, huh? (Plus, you know, I'm mostly deaf, and that helps nothing insofar as in-person communication goes. xDD)

Hmm. Counting my native tongue, and discounting so-called "dead" languages, English, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, Welsh, German, Spanish, French, Hindustani, Hebrew... hm. Add in the "dead" languages... Ancient Egyptian and Latin, as well as a conglomerate of tongues from the ancient Middle East.

Add in whatever ones I make up myself (and there's this weird part of me that wants to learn all the forms of Tolkien's Elvish, and Klingon...), and I'll end up speaking the weirdest sentences.... xDDD

As for why... Mostly because they sound and look cool, but also because there is something indescribably wonderful about figuring out what something means. I regularly challenge myself to put together words and phrases in Japanese, just because it's one of the most fun things I can think of. I love playing with words and meanings, always have, and I think that translates into a love of languages in general.

Besides, I can get good money for "playing" like that. xDDDD

Ah yes. Hoshi means star in Japanese doesn’t it? I should have remembered, stupid… though I didn’t know inoru meant wish. Guess you learn something new every day, huh? ^_^

Total immersion is usually good for learning just about anything, it’s how I learned English.

And OMG Ancient Egypt! I used to be absolutely in love with it! (I still love Ancient Egypt but it’s dampen down a bit)They were so fascinating especially their religion, I wanted to be able to go back in time and live there. I got so obsessed at one point I actually tried to learn Ancient Egyptian from this book I found (this was before I realized that I had no aptitude for languages). Well the basics of what we have deciphered, which isn’t much. I think I can still remember some of it.

You choose an interesting collection of languages they are all so different in origin and form. And the “dead” languages definitely count! I actually wanted to take Latin this year (cause studying it on my own from a dictionary wasn’t working out that well due laziness and having no one and nothing I could practice on).

Elvish? O_0 Well, if you want really weird sentences you could try to brain damage to a really specific but unidentified part of your brain. You’ll end up like that translator (I forgot from where) who knew 10 different languages. She got into a car? accident had some brain trauma and couldn’t sort out which word, sentence structure or grammar went with which language. She speaks in all the languages that she knows but interspersed with each other so the only people who can understand her was people who knew the same languages she did.

*nods* there is definitely something indescribably wonderful in figuring out what something means or putting meaning into something. Meaning is what gives things power and well... there is just something about communicating thought or feelings or emotions and they way its done.

Anyways, I think I’m going to stop myself here. I will definitely tell you more about the Linguistics course, that will probably a really long thing. I love it but have no one who also thinks it interesting. *pouts*
