A Birthday Celebration
Characters: Faelan, Sirius, Gaius, Harry, Neville, Luna, Hermione, Leila, Regulus, Padma
Summary: It's Faelan's birthday and time for Quidditch!
It was loud.
That was the first stunning impression Faelan had of the Arrows’ stadium. The match hadn’t even begun yet, and the crowd roared with discordant chants, waving flags in the team colors, displaying the faces of their favorite players or flashing giant arrows in every hue imaginable. Somewhere a cacophony of instruments amplified the team song through the stands, and the spectators cheered, one solid mass of color and sound that belied the fact that Faelan had never before in his life seen a tenth of this number of people in one place at one time.
It was also windy. Pulling his second-hand leather jacket tighter around himself, he paused in shock to look out over the stands as he emerged with Sirius and Gaius from a corridor high in the stadium, spilling them out into the masses. He had figured the stands would be full and loud and bright, but this was unbelievable.
Sirius led the way up yet another tall flight of stairs toward their box, and more than once, Faelan tripped on his own feet as he looked back over his shoulder to take it all in. As the noise filled his ears, he gave an involuntary shudder, but he was too overwhelmed with everything there was to see to truly feel the discomfort of the stifling crowd.
While Faelan had been uncharacteristically touched by Harry’s gift (he hadn’t thought anyone would take note of his birthday, let alone want to celebrate it) it made him nervous to know so many people wanted to come to one place because of him. Some of the people who had been invited were people Faelan didn’t even know yet, but as antsy as it made him – and as nervewracking as it was to face a Quidditch match, and with it all of his reluctant thoughts about Oliver and their family – he’d been too surprised to say no. No one had even offered him so much as a “happy birthday, kid”, since he was eleven. This was too much to resist.
Sirius led them to their seats, and let Faelan pick out where he wanted to sit. The box was amazing – two long rows of seats jutting out over the crowd, giving the impression that they were floating in mid-air. For all Faelan knew, maybe they were. Faelan felt the built-in warming charms surround him, and took the middle seat in the front row. He was the birthday boy, after all. It seemed they were the first to arrive, and that was all right by Faelan. It would give him time to get used to everything.
