Who: Anyone who wants to come by
What: Grand-opening party!
Where: Pancho's Bar
When: Friday Night

The streamers were up (because Jan had insisted), and the bar was as ready as it ever would be. Alcohol was stored in a few make-shift shelves on the back wall and a relatively well-cobbled together bar was freshly polished and ready to go. It wasn't the most well-put-together, place, but Pancho's definitely resembled its namesake in terms of dim lighting, chipped tables and a floor that looked like it should be sticky. All in all, Carol was pretty proud of what they'd made. The minifridge was even a good choice since it allowed them to keep some drinks cold (they were going to have to find a larger one in the future, though).

She had warned Peter that the pizza oven needed to be ready by that evening, but she wasn't sure how on the ball with that he was. She'd been busy doing damage control on some electrical issues they were having with the fridge and double checking to make sure they actually had drinking cups (that took a little bit of maneuvering, but Clint came through with the coffee mugs). Yup, vodka from coffee mugs, a mini-fridge filled with a variety of stolen beers, and mismatched chairs. And, of course, the balloons. The annoying, awful squeaky balloons that had floated into a couple of corners of the room, save for the two that kept dragging on the floor and that Carol dreaded would pop at some point that evening. Definitely professional.

Karaoke was set up in one corner of the room with a make-shift stage and Christmas lights (Yes, more Christmas lights) decorating around it. Old 80s rock music blasted from the speakers for now, and Carol stood behind the bar, ready to serve as needed but more than willing to drag anyone else into the position should they so choose that evening.

Too fast. Right. She'd heard that before. She wasn't offended, just nodding and considering it for a moment, then raising her eyebrow at the girl. "America? Pretty name. I like it." She smiled and raised her bottle. "Well, cheers to that." The Doctor took a sip of beer. She wasn't a fan of beer, but Rose had been and the Doctor was trying to fit in best she could for her friend's sake.

"Um...sort of?" Slow down. Right. She leaned back on the bar, thinking about how to explain to the girl. "Doctor of a lot of things, actually. But probably not a doctor as you're thinkin'. I call myself Doctor. It's a name I gave myself.
How about you?"

Well America certainly didn't mind cheersing to that she lifted her own mug to the Doctors and nodded, "Thanks." It was - well it was better than some of the drinks she'd had back at Sotomayer U, but you know college kids and cheep beer. This was going to work just fine she decided.

She tilted her head just a little as the Doctor explained a least a little that she wasn't like a doctor doctor, not like what America had meant when she'd asked the question, but that it was more a name for herself than what she did, which you know... America could handle. "Oh, okay - that's cool." Weird maybe, but you know considering where America had come from, and where they were now weird was kind of a relative thing.

"My moms gave me my name?" She said and then realized maybe that the Doctor had meant what he did instead of how she'd gotten her name. "I uh - I try and save people most of the time." It felt weird trying to call herself some kind of hero, and she wasn't part of the Young Avengers anymore, they'd all gone their own ways after a while, and the other teams she'd been a part of came and went, so that just left America there, trying to save people most of the time. Whatever. She was just America.

"Oh! Yes, that makes sense. That's usually where people get their names." The Doctor nodded when America explained where she got her name.

There was a bit of a perk up when America talked about saving people. A lot of people around here seemed to be heroes of some kinda, and 13 had been fascinated by it all. Maybe that's what brought them together- do-gooders of all sorts? Though, that could also mean someone who was a not-so-do-gooder could've trapped them there for a reason. And that would be bad.

She took a drink from her bottle and considered how to respond. She was trying to go slower, at least. Her mind, though, was moving quickly. As always. "You wouldn't happen to have any abnormal powers, would you? Wait- are you human?" She turned toward America, staring her down. "Can I scan you?" She was already itching to reach into her coat pocket, but she knew it was probably rude to just pull it out at a party.

America nodded, yes that was where people usually got their names in her experience, sure there were the crazy people who renamed themselves when they had something intense happen and decided they were going to be evil but you know generally names came from parents.

The Doctor was a little strange, but not in a bad way America decided, she was just different enough that America had to stop thinking so much about her own frustrations and instead focus right here in this moment so she could keep up and maybe try and make sense of her a little bit.

"I have some powers, yes. I don't think they're abnormal though," Just because they weren't normal for humans didn't make them abnormal for fuertona starlings, which of course meant she wasn't human and shook her head to indicate as much, "Not a human, no." And then her eyes went wide when the Doctor asked if she could scan her, sitting back just a little - what did that even mean? Scan her? For what? "Um... what are you going to scan me for?" Cause maybe she could the Doctor didn't really seem like she was evil, but a lot of people didn't necessarily seem evil at first.

Not a human. Right. She should've guessed- well, she probably should have suspected, at least. "Alien, then? I'm not human, either." The Doctor grinned, reaching into her pocket to show America her sonic screwdriver, pushing the button so it whirled, but not pointing it at her just yet.

"S'my sonic! Well, it's a bit of a rough one. I had to build this one myself after the TARDIS kicked me down to Earth a ways back, but it's good enough. Made of good ol' Sheffield Steel." The Doctor wasn't sure why she was so proud of that fact. Maybe it's because she felt her accent came from that area. Funny how new faces had new attachments.

"Um, I usually use my sonic to get readin's on things. Gets me a better understanding of people. Places. Things. Cheeses. This one's calibrated to warn me if there's brie. I don't like brie." She pointed it at America, doing a quick wave then looking down at the readings.

"Oh...huh." She looked at a loss then looked up at America. "What species did you say you were, again?"

America nodded, she had lived most of her life among humans but yeah she was still technically an Alien. "Yeah I suppose I am," She was a little surprised when the Doctor admitted to not being human either, but she guessed that made sense too, she was a little too manic, a little too much... just too much to be human.

She didn't understand half of what the Doctor said as she explained about a Tardis? and her sonic, which America guessed was the little pen thing that she'd pulled out of her pocket. It didn't look like some crazy weapon though so that was something. And as the Doctor told her what she tended to use it for most often America decided it would probably be okay to be scanned by it.

"You're not getting a brie reading on me, are you?" She asked, because the look on the Doctor's face said she got back something that maybe didn't quite make sense.

"Ah- I didn't?" She paused for a moment, she didn't talk a lot about what she was or where she came from, Earth was the kind of place where that didn't always matter a lot as long as you could prove you were on the right side. "I'm a Fuertona Starling, from the Utopian Parallel."

"No, you're definitely not a cheese. I think." She looked back at America as she explained where she was from. And...no. It didn't ring a bell. "I'm afraid I've never heard of any of that." The Doctor tilted her head, staring at America for a moment.

"Sorry, just gettin' used to the cross-universe thing. Not used to not knowing as much as I do now. It's concerning- no. Not concernin'. Exciting? Yes! Closer to exciting. But also bothersome. Like, I love a mystery, but I don't like not knowing." Sure, that made sense. She stared at the readings again and considered what she saw. She really wished she had her TARDIS...

"You wouldn't happen to fly, would you? And what about strength?" She was guessing. This could be a cool party trick if it was accurate, though. Let the Doctor guess your powers for a quid!. Probably wouldn't get as much business as the bar.

Well that wasn't too surprising from America's side of things, she was used to most people never having heard of the Utopian Parallel, after all they'd been closed off from the multiverse. But it looked like the Doctor was a little more used to knowing than not knowing.

America laughed softly and nodded, "That's something I get, I always preferring knowing to not knowing." She never was very fond of a mystery, and riddles never failed to frustrate her but knowing things, that was something she had always been fond of.

"Yep, I can fly, and I am very strong." She agreed wondering if the scanner had told the Doctor that or if she'd just guessed. "So can you scan anyone and see what kind of powers they have?" She wondered leaning over like she might be able to tell what the Doctor got from her little pen thing.

The Doctor smiled and nodded at America's comment about mysteries. Then she tried to explain the readings and what she was looking at. And feeling. It was mostly feeling at this point, but the Doctor figured that might be hard to explain to the other alien.

"It's your biophysical readings. Bone and muscle density, carbon levels, atomic structure. It gives me a pattern and I can make an educated guess based on what I'm seein' here. Sometimes it's more accurate than others. Your skin isn't green, for example." She was proud of her sonic, clearly.

"Timelord technology. Most of the readings are in Gallifreyan." The Doctor pointed to a few glyphs and went on. "Plus, like I said, feelin'. She vibrates a certain way for some readin's. After carrying one of these things for a few centuries, you get a handle for how they work."

America let the Doctor try and explain the readings and the more sort of ephemeral feelings she got from the scanner but all of it was a little bit much for America, but if it worked for the Doctor than that was probably good enough. It was interesting though that she could take that kind of educated guess from those sorts of things to get to flight and super strength. And she wondered what sort of readings she'd get from some of the others of them around here. She laughed and nodded, "Well that's not wrong, my skin definitely isn't green."

"Have you scanned anyone else here?" She wondered, glancing around the bar properly now in a way that she hadn't when she'd come in curious if the Doctor was gathering that kind of information about them all now. Or if it was the sort of thing she asked permission for first.

"Gallifreyan, is that where you're from?" She wondered as she looked at the unfamiliar symbols on the scanner, and then was even more surprised when the Doctor mentioned centuries. "Uh, how old are you? If you don't mind me asking." Because some people could be a little touchy about that sort of thing, but America was never really good about beating around the bush when it came to things she wanted to know.

"Here and there..." The Doctor admitted with a shrug but then got a gleam in her eye. In many ways, the Doctor was just a 12 year old waiting for someone to give her a reason to get up to mischief. "Should I? I mean, if you think it's a good idea, of course."

She really wanted to scan the woman behind the bar. Something about her was off. The Doctor could sense a glow about her and she was curious, but holding back because she also figured the friendly woman might not appreciate being scanned and around here the Doctor wasn't about to cross those sorts of boundaries. Well, not without the right push.

"Yeah, Gallifrey. Not part of this universe, though- I don't think. I'm a Timelord." She considered the question. That was always hard to pin down. "Um....about 2000 years give or take? Earth years, I mean. I travel through time and space, so it's sometimes hard for me to keep track how long it's been." She grinned. "I can change faces, too- this is my 13th one. That's why I go by 13. There was my 10th version of me runnin' around, but I haven't heard from him in a while and now I'm startin' to think he might've found a way out."

Funny, if he had, why would he have left Rose? The Doctor couldn't see herself doing that.

America really was the wrong person to have any amount of control over whether or not someone should do something, but well she was curious and the Doctor certainly seemed curious. "I mean are they going to notice if you do?" She hadn't felt anything when the Doctor had scanned her, it had been a little strange because she'd seen it happening but if the Doctor could do that from a distance without being noticed? Well why not?

"I think some of them might not like being scanned if they knew," She paused for a moment, because she thought maybe she'd be one of them if there was someone else sitting with the Doctor encouraging her to scan everyone America included, but then shrugged. "But if they don't know they can't get mad right?" Yeah, definitely the wrong person for this sort of role.

Timelord and Gallifrey, America had never heard of either of them, so maybe she was right about not being from this universe, or even America's usual universe. But it was a little strange because America could travel through the multiverse, had traveled through the multiverse and that still wasn't something she'd ever heard of. "Huh." She said rather than all of that, "I don't think I've ever heard of that."

"Wow, And I thought Asgardians were some of the only ones who got that old." Sure there were others out there who aged past a normal human life span but there weren't many. "Wait you think he got out?" She asked latching on to that little bit of information probably more than she should have. "You don't know how he was trying to get out, do you?"

Oh yes, the Doctor liked this one. She grinned and looked around. "I mean, technically it doesn't harm anyone." Maybe a bit of invasion of privacy, but still... "We shouldn't. Nah." She stopped a moment then glanced at America and slowly grinned. "Unless you think there's something valuable we can learn?" Yup, she was pushing it.

The Doctor walked a fine line when it came to these things. She would never hurt anyone or anything intentionally, but her curiosity about things was unquenchable. Wordlessly, she scanned the female bartender while she was talking to another woman and looked at the readings. The Doctor made a face and stared at the woman before turning her attention to America.

"Not surprised." She drank her beer and nodded about Gallifrey. "You would have if we were from the same universe, I bet, but I'm going to assume that my world doesn't exist where you come from. And vise versa."

Asgardians? The Doctor raised her eyebrows at the word. "Asgardians as in Norse Asgardians?" She was intrigued. "They exist where you are from??" This was fascinating. New information for sure!

Oh. Right, her other self. She sighed. "No. He's been keeping to himself lately. He could also just be caught up in a bush somewhere knowing him. Me. Same difference." Another drink of beer and she tried to wave down the two behind the bar for another one. This was getting quite fun!

Technically, that didn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement to scan anyone if she was being honest. The Doctor was probably right, they shouldn't, but well - it was kind of cool and it wasn't like people would know. "I mean.... I know a lot about these people and the kind of powers they have." She offered, cause she wanted to see what the scanner told the Doctor, of course she did, but there was a line there that felt a little like maybe they shouldn't cross it. "I can tell you about them?" She offered instead of giving in to the desire to go around scanning all the people who lived here in America 2.0.

It didn't sound like boastfulness when the Doctor said she'd have heard of Gallifrey, like of course she'd know about the place she was from because it was that important, but just one of those things that you'd know if they were from the same universe. The multiverse was complex. "I guess it probably doesn't," She shrugged, "The Utopian Parallel, kind of exists outside the multiverse, closed off from the wider Multiverse to keep it safe. So most people don't know about it even where I spend most of my time."

"Asgardians like from Asgard?" She nodded, yeah they existed. "Yeah they're kind of intense, but not bad to have on your side in a fight."

Frowning when The Doctor admitted not knowing if her other self had actually gotten out of was just wandering around in the woods, it was a small hope, but it had been a hope all the same. America supposed she'd better start making peace with the idea that they weren't getting out of here. "Do you think someone should go look for him? Or will he find his way back eventually if that's all it is?"

"Oh, telling me about them would probably be easier. Less trouble in the long run, unless you like trouble?" She was grinning at the notion. It was clear the Doctor didn't mind a bit of trouble now and then.

This place sounded fascinating. A universe closed off from other universes on purpose! She wanted to know more. She nodded slowly, asking one of the multitudes of questions occurring to her at the moment. "Why are they closed off? What exactly started this Utopian Parallel, if anything? How is it safer for them? How do they close it off?" Okay, more than one question.

"Fascinating!" The Doctor's eyes were a bit wide as she listened. "They don't exist where I'm from, I think. Only in stories. There are some alien species that influenced some of the gods on Earth where I'm from, but no Asgardians. I think. I'm going to have to look into them when I get back."

"He's fine! Probably. I've been lookin', but haven't found hide nor hair. I think Rose has been, too." She looked around for Rose and frowned. The bar ws getting crowded and she couldn't find her.

America laughed softly and lifted her shoulders, "I guess it depends on the kind of trouble really. It tends to have a way of finding me whether I'm looking or not though." She admitted because she did try to keep her head above water, to be the hero everyone thought she was, but it was easier to act without thinking sometimes and that could get her into trouble.

It had been a while since she'd really explained about the Utopian Parallel, it could get confusing for people, but the Doctor seemed genuinely interested and not just like the kind of interested people could be when they were confused. "Well it was created by the Demiurge, and it was a safe place for my people to go when they were being attacked by La Légion, it was sealed off so they couldn't be followed through and they could remain safe there without fear of being attacked more." And of course their nearness to the Demiurge only enhanced America's power as she'd grown up there.

That really was strange, so much of the multiverse was similar, just a little different in small ways, or bigger ways at times, but they all ended up in mostly the same space. But to hear about the universe the Doctor was from it was clear hers was different in very big ways. "If you happen to run into Loki I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him." She warned, even if her Loki was perhaps better than some others she still had a hard time trusting him, and couldn't really encourage others to do the same.

"Well if you're not worried about him," She shrugged, she wondered though if maybe the Doctor was right, if her other self had found a way out - that would have been the sort of thing she'd want to know about.

"Oh. Right. So what are the Demiurge??" She wasn't going to just let it drop. "Alien or other? Is it a phenomenon?" She really needed more information if she was going to wrap her mind around the possibilities of this place. The Doctor loved learning about these things. Poor America probably didn't even realize she'd opened a whole can of worms on this one.

"Loki? Oh! Yes, we actually went through a door together once. He's a tricky one, but hew as rather useful. I can see why you'd warn me not to trust him, though." The Doctor had already figured that out about the man, though she still found him interesting. Of course, it made sense he was from Asgard.

"If something happened to him, I wouldn't be here. Unless it's a parallel dimension, in which case it wouldn't matter but I'm pretty resourceful, so he is, too. " She smiled and drank her beer.

"So, America- love the name, by the way- how long have yo u been here? You seem a bit down."

"The Demiurge is a person... was a person," She frowned it was hard to explain, even for her. "Growing up he was like this giant brilliant thing in the sky watching over us, making the Utopian Parallel safe for us all, but then I went out into the multiverse and I met him, before he became the Demiurge and he's just a boy." It was weird to think about Billy ending up there at some point, the way their realities crossed and moved around one another like that. And she wondered what it meant for the Billy she knew and cared for, if he simply ceased being when that time came or if it was something different.

Loki had gone through the door with the Doctor, America didn't know what to think of that. "Well as long as you know then." The Doctor seemed smart, so of course she'd be able to tell that he could be a little tricky. So that was probably for the best.

That was complicated, but she supposed that the Doctor was right, if he was some sort of previous version of her then he had to be okay for her to be there at all. Paradoxes were confusing and America didn't really like them at all. "Well that's good."

"You did mention that." She said with a low laugh when the Doctor complimented her name again and then breathed out slowly, "Um, it's been about two and a half months, maybe a little more." It had been long enough that she was starting to not be entirely sure how long it had been exactly which was just further proof that she'd been here for too long. "I don't really like being stuck."

A boy who builds a universe? That sounded like something she might have a run-in with! Not that she would, considering the strange universe-colliding thing, but she could imagine it happening. It was astounding. The Doctor looked impressed but clearly believed what America was saying to be 100% true.

"Thank you for trying to warn me. He was definitely up to something, but I was trying to figure out just what. He reminds me of a friend I had from years back." Friend. Enemy. Same thing for the Doctor, really. The Master (or Missy) was a complex being who liked causing chaos. Basically, her universe's version of Loki, she supposed.

"Did I? Sorry! I get a bit loopy when I drink- have I mentioned that?" She was having trouble remembering what she'd said before and what was in her head. Oh well, America seemed polite enough to go with it and the Doctor wasn't bothered by it at all.

"Me neither!" The Doctor huffed, leaning back on the bar, elbows on either side. "It's the worst when you're used to traveling the universe freely. I was stuck on Earth for years once a looong time ago. Not so bad, they gave me a car! But not the same as roamin' time and space."

America was relieved not to have to try and explain a little more or to prove that she was being honest about it all the way she had in other conversations when she'd tried to explain where she was from and what it was like. It was a welcome change to be able to talk to someone.

"He's complicated," America admitted, because it wasn't like Loki was all bad, she knew him well enough to know that much about him, and she always hoped that he'd be more good than bad, but she knew that he often had to deal with his worst impulses and that wasn't always an easy feat.

Shaking her head America smiled just a little, "You hadn't mentioned that, it's okay though." As long as they weren't going a mile a minute she thought all of it was probably okay mostly.

"I normally can go anywhere I like," She said with a longing sigh, missing the freedom of that, "Anywhere in the multiverse, but here it's all -" She shook her head, "It doesn't matter what I do, I can't go anywhere." And this town was too small, being confined to Earth would be one thing, a whole planet to travel would be better than this, trapped in this too small space.

"You think I should sober? Should I sober?" The Doctor was considering it. Nah. She took another drink and shrugged. No need to save a planet or stop an invasion or anything. This was fine for now.

That got the Doctor's interest. She perked up and looked at America, studying her. Nothing in her readings indicated that- this was new! "Fascinating! Do you transition yourself, open portals, or is it a device??" She was looking over America's person for such a device. "Is it natural or did you have to learn to travel that way? Am I askin' too many questions??"

She wanted to know everything about America now. It was her nature to be curious and learn, and this person was very, very interesting.

"You can ask me to stop askin' questions, ya know. I know I can go on about it."

"Nah, I mean that usually takes a little time," America reasoned as well, but the Doctor was fine, not so drunk that she had fallen off into annoying, she was just curious and that didn't bother America much, it was nice to kind of have something else to focus on for the time being, so it was fine.

A part of her was surprised that the Doctor didn't already realize, her little scanner pen hadn't given her a reading that suggested anything like that, but maybe that was the sort of thing that didn't show up that way. "I open star portals," She explained, holding out a wrist to show off the marks on her wrists that denoted her as a starling.

"I've always been able to do it ever since I was little." Her mothers could as well and Madrimar, so she supposed it ran in the family. "As I've gotten older I realized though that I can travel through time too, not just space. So that's been kind of cool to figure out, I'm still learning how to do it though."

"It's okay I don't get to talk about myself very often, I don't mind."

"Not for me it doesn't- well sort of? A minute or two if I decide I need to." She shrugged. Alien physiology and all had some advantages.

Star portals? These were new. The Doctor examined her wrist then looked up at the girl. "So you can just come and go through space? What about time?" She'd encountered beings similar to America before, but never with as much control. or so she assumed. Maybe just never in a solid form?

The Doctor's eyes went wide when she went on about time and she stared. "So....you're like a human TARDIS. But..not human, but...sooooo cool!" She was beaming at the thought. Oh, the places America could go! The poor girl probably had no idea how dangerous it was for her to tell the Doctor these things. Not for any ill intent, but the Doctor was now going to be the girl's shadow for a bit.

"I have a TARDIS- um, ship. Helps me travel around. She's big and blue and beautiful and alive! But...I lost her coming here." There was a bit of sadness in her voice. "I can't travel on my own, though. There are devices that allow some people to dot hat for certain distances or through time, but they wear on a person. That and paradoxes are always a risk."

America tilted her head, curious when the Doctor told her she could sober up in a couple of minutes. "Huh, that'd come in handy."

Being here in this place it was easy to forget that she was cool most of the time, she was a hero and she had super powers and that normally those things made her feel pretty amazing, being able to talk about them with the Doctor felt pretty good. "Yeah, I just-" She mimed punching but didn't bother with the kind of force that was normally required to open a star portal, no point in it, "and then it opens up wherever I want to go."

"It's harder with time, I just have to think about where I want to go when I open a portal normally I don't need to try that hard, but when I've traveled in time I need more of a focal point, I can't just kind of pick at random." But maybe in time she'd be able to figure out how to do that, but for now she was just going to have to deal with time travel being just a sometime sort of thing.

"So your ship travels in time." She liked the thought of that, sure it wasn't as convenient as being able to punch yourself a portal through time and space but it was definitely cooler to have a ship to travel with. "Man that sounds pretty cool, does it like... open portals when you travel or does it just like jump from here to there? Do you think you'll be able to find your ship?" That sounded like something that could potentially help them get home.

"It does in a crisis. Luckily, no such crises' here, yeah?" Not yet, anyway.

"So you just punch the air and bam! Instant portal. That's brilliant. I'd love to see you do it one day. Can you take people with you, or is it just you that goes?" She wanted to know more. And her beer was empty. The Doctor frowned, setting the bottle down, but turning to America. She was more interesting than beer, anyway.

"Time travel is always tricky. Even for my TARDIS. Usually, she gets us where we're going. Sometimes not so much. But I always end up where I need to be, an' that's what matters, right?"

"She does! And space. And it's sorta like a portal. It phases into an outer dimension that lets us travel through time and space- a black hole sort of. To most people, it just looks like it's coming and going- disappearing and appearing with a sorta 'whoosh, whoosh' noise. She has a camouflage function, too, but it's been stuck for centuries to look like a blue Police box. I like it, though."

The Doctor sighed at the last question and shrugged. "I will. Eventually. Gotta have hope. Just dunno where she's gone off to."
