Who: Anyone who wants to come by
What: Grand-opening party!
Where: Pancho's Bar
When: Friday Night

The streamers were up (because Jan had insisted), and the bar was as ready as it ever would be. Alcohol was stored in a few make-shift shelves on the back wall and a relatively well-cobbled together bar was freshly polished and ready to go. It wasn't the most well-put-together, place, but Pancho's definitely resembled its namesake in terms of dim lighting, chipped tables and a floor that looked like it should be sticky. All in all, Carol was pretty proud of what they'd made. The minifridge was even a good choice since it allowed them to keep some drinks cold (they were going to have to find a larger one in the future, though).

She had warned Peter that the pizza oven needed to be ready by that evening, but she wasn't sure how on the ball with that he was. She'd been busy doing damage control on some electrical issues they were having with the fridge and double checking to make sure they actually had drinking cups (that took a little bit of maneuvering, but Clint came through with the coffee mugs). Yup, vodka from coffee mugs, a mini-fridge filled with a variety of stolen beers, and mismatched chairs. And, of course, the balloons. The annoying, awful squeaky balloons that had floated into a couple of corners of the room, save for the two that kept dragging on the floor and that Carol dreaded would pop at some point that evening. Definitely professional.

Karaoke was set up in one corner of the room with a make-shift stage and Christmas lights (Yes, more Christmas lights) decorating around it. Old 80s rock music blasted from the speakers for now, and Carol stood behind the bar, ready to serve as needed but more than willing to drag anyone else into the position should they so choose that evening.

"Oh, telling me about them would probably be easier. Less trouble in the long run, unless you like trouble?" She was grinning at the notion. It was clear the Doctor didn't mind a bit of trouble now and then.

This place sounded fascinating. A universe closed off from other universes on purpose! She wanted to know more. She nodded slowly, asking one of the multitudes of questions occurring to her at the moment. "Why are they closed off? What exactly started this Utopian Parallel, if anything? How is it safer for them? How do they close it off?" Okay, more than one question.

"Fascinating!" The Doctor's eyes were a bit wide as she listened. "They don't exist where I'm from, I think. Only in stories. There are some alien species that influenced some of the gods on Earth where I'm from, but no Asgardians. I think. I'm going to have to look into them when I get back."

"He's fine! Probably. I've been lookin', but haven't found hide nor hair. I think Rose has been, too." She looked around for Rose and frowned. The bar ws getting crowded and she couldn't find her.

America laughed softly and lifted her shoulders, "I guess it depends on the kind of trouble really. It tends to have a way of finding me whether I'm looking or not though." She admitted because she did try to keep her head above water, to be the hero everyone thought she was, but it was easier to act without thinking sometimes and that could get her into trouble.

It had been a while since she'd really explained about the Utopian Parallel, it could get confusing for people, but the Doctor seemed genuinely interested and not just like the kind of interested people could be when they were confused. "Well it was created by the Demiurge, and it was a safe place for my people to go when they were being attacked by La Légion, it was sealed off so they couldn't be followed through and they could remain safe there without fear of being attacked more." And of course their nearness to the Demiurge only enhanced America's power as she'd grown up there.

That really was strange, so much of the multiverse was similar, just a little different in small ways, or bigger ways at times, but they all ended up in mostly the same space. But to hear about the universe the Doctor was from it was clear hers was different in very big ways. "If you happen to run into Loki I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him." She warned, even if her Loki was perhaps better than some others she still had a hard time trusting him, and couldn't really encourage others to do the same.

"Well if you're not worried about him," She shrugged, she wondered though if maybe the Doctor was right, if her other self had found a way out - that would have been the sort of thing she'd want to know about.

"Oh. Right. So what are the Demiurge??" She wasn't going to just let it drop. "Alien or other? Is it a phenomenon?" She really needed more information if she was going to wrap her mind around the possibilities of this place. The Doctor loved learning about these things. Poor America probably didn't even realize she'd opened a whole can of worms on this one.

"Loki? Oh! Yes, we actually went through a door together once. He's a tricky one, but hew as rather useful. I can see why you'd warn me not to trust him, though." The Doctor had already figured that out about the man, though she still found him interesting. Of course, it made sense he was from Asgard.

"If something happened to him, I wouldn't be here. Unless it's a parallel dimension, in which case it wouldn't matter but I'm pretty resourceful, so he is, too. " She smiled and drank her beer.

"So, America- love the name, by the way- how long have yo u been here? You seem a bit down."

"The Demiurge is a person... was a person," She frowned it was hard to explain, even for her. "Growing up he was like this giant brilliant thing in the sky watching over us, making the Utopian Parallel safe for us all, but then I went out into the multiverse and I met him, before he became the Demiurge and he's just a boy." It was weird to think about Billy ending up there at some point, the way their realities crossed and moved around one another like that. And she wondered what it meant for the Billy she knew and cared for, if he simply ceased being when that time came or if it was something different.

Loki had gone through the door with the Doctor, America didn't know what to think of that. "Well as long as you know then." The Doctor seemed smart, so of course she'd be able to tell that he could be a little tricky. So that was probably for the best.

That was complicated, but she supposed that the Doctor was right, if he was some sort of previous version of her then he had to be okay for her to be there at all. Paradoxes were confusing and America didn't really like them at all. "Well that's good."

"You did mention that." She said with a low laugh when the Doctor complimented her name again and then breathed out slowly, "Um, it's been about two and a half months, maybe a little more." It had been long enough that she was starting to not be entirely sure how long it had been exactly which was just further proof that she'd been here for too long. "I don't really like being stuck."

A boy who builds a universe? That sounded like something she might have a run-in with! Not that she would, considering the strange universe-colliding thing, but she could imagine it happening. It was astounding. The Doctor looked impressed but clearly believed what America was saying to be 100% true.

"Thank you for trying to warn me. He was definitely up to something, but I was trying to figure out just what. He reminds me of a friend I had from years back." Friend. Enemy. Same thing for the Doctor, really. The Master (or Missy) was a complex being who liked causing chaos. Basically, her universe's version of Loki, she supposed.

"Did I? Sorry! I get a bit loopy when I drink- have I mentioned that?" She was having trouble remembering what she'd said before and what was in her head. Oh well, America seemed polite enough to go with it and the Doctor wasn't bothered by it at all.

"Me neither!" The Doctor huffed, leaning back on the bar, elbows on either side. "It's the worst when you're used to traveling the universe freely. I was stuck on Earth for years once a looong time ago. Not so bad, they gave me a car! But not the same as roamin' time and space."

America was relieved not to have to try and explain a little more or to prove that she was being honest about it all the way she had in other conversations when she'd tried to explain where she was from and what it was like. It was a welcome change to be able to talk to someone.

"He's complicated," America admitted, because it wasn't like Loki was all bad, she knew him well enough to know that much about him, and she always hoped that he'd be more good than bad, but she knew that he often had to deal with his worst impulses and that wasn't always an easy feat.

Shaking her head America smiled just a little, "You hadn't mentioned that, it's okay though." As long as they weren't going a mile a minute she thought all of it was probably okay mostly.

"I normally can go anywhere I like," She said with a longing sigh, missing the freedom of that, "Anywhere in the multiverse, but here it's all -" She shook her head, "It doesn't matter what I do, I can't go anywhere." And this town was too small, being confined to Earth would be one thing, a whole planet to travel would be better than this, trapped in this too small space.

"You think I should sober? Should I sober?" The Doctor was considering it. Nah. She took another drink and shrugged. No need to save a planet or stop an invasion or anything. This was fine for now.

That got the Doctor's interest. She perked up and looked at America, studying her. Nothing in her readings indicated that- this was new! "Fascinating! Do you transition yourself, open portals, or is it a device??" She was looking over America's person for such a device. "Is it natural or did you have to learn to travel that way? Am I askin' too many questions??"

She wanted to know everything about America now. It was her nature to be curious and learn, and this person was very, very interesting.

"You can ask me to stop askin' questions, ya know. I know I can go on about it."

"Nah, I mean that usually takes a little time," America reasoned as well, but the Doctor was fine, not so drunk that she had fallen off into annoying, she was just curious and that didn't bother America much, it was nice to kind of have something else to focus on for the time being, so it was fine.

A part of her was surprised that the Doctor didn't already realize, her little scanner pen hadn't given her a reading that suggested anything like that, but maybe that was the sort of thing that didn't show up that way. "I open star portals," She explained, holding out a wrist to show off the marks on her wrists that denoted her as a starling.

"I've always been able to do it ever since I was little." Her mothers could as well and Madrimar, so she supposed it ran in the family. "As I've gotten older I realized though that I can travel through time too, not just space. So that's been kind of cool to figure out, I'm still learning how to do it though."

"It's okay I don't get to talk about myself very often, I don't mind."

"Not for me it doesn't- well sort of? A minute or two if I decide I need to." She shrugged. Alien physiology and all had some advantages.

Star portals? These were new. The Doctor examined her wrist then looked up at the girl. "So you can just come and go through space? What about time?" She'd encountered beings similar to America before, but never with as much control. or so she assumed. Maybe just never in a solid form?

The Doctor's eyes went wide when she went on about time and she stared. "So....you're like a human TARDIS. But..not human, but...sooooo cool!" She was beaming at the thought. Oh, the places America could go! The poor girl probably had no idea how dangerous it was for her to tell the Doctor these things. Not for any ill intent, but the Doctor was now going to be the girl's shadow for a bit.

"I have a TARDIS- um, ship. Helps me travel around. She's big and blue and beautiful and alive! But...I lost her coming here." There was a bit of sadness in her voice. "I can't travel on my own, though. There are devices that allow some people to dot hat for certain distances or through time, but they wear on a person. That and paradoxes are always a risk."

America tilted her head, curious when the Doctor told her she could sober up in a couple of minutes. "Huh, that'd come in handy."

Being here in this place it was easy to forget that she was cool most of the time, she was a hero and she had super powers and that normally those things made her feel pretty amazing, being able to talk about them with the Doctor felt pretty good. "Yeah, I just-" She mimed punching but didn't bother with the kind of force that was normally required to open a star portal, no point in it, "and then it opens up wherever I want to go."

"It's harder with time, I just have to think about where I want to go when I open a portal normally I don't need to try that hard, but when I've traveled in time I need more of a focal point, I can't just kind of pick at random." But maybe in time she'd be able to figure out how to do that, but for now she was just going to have to deal with time travel being just a sometime sort of thing.

"So your ship travels in time." She liked the thought of that, sure it wasn't as convenient as being able to punch yourself a portal through time and space but it was definitely cooler to have a ship to travel with. "Man that sounds pretty cool, does it like... open portals when you travel or does it just like jump from here to there? Do you think you'll be able to find your ship?" That sounded like something that could potentially help them get home.

"It does in a crisis. Luckily, no such crises' here, yeah?" Not yet, anyway.

"So you just punch the air and bam! Instant portal. That's brilliant. I'd love to see you do it one day. Can you take people with you, or is it just you that goes?" She wanted to know more. And her beer was empty. The Doctor frowned, setting the bottle down, but turning to America. She was more interesting than beer, anyway.

"Time travel is always tricky. Even for my TARDIS. Usually, she gets us where we're going. Sometimes not so much. But I always end up where I need to be, an' that's what matters, right?"

"She does! And space. And it's sorta like a portal. It phases into an outer dimension that lets us travel through time and space- a black hole sort of. To most people, it just looks like it's coming and going- disappearing and appearing with a sorta 'whoosh, whoosh' noise. She has a camouflage function, too, but it's been stuck for centuries to look like a blue Police box. I like it, though."

The Doctor sighed at the last question and shrugged. "I will. Eventually. Gotta have hope. Just dunno where she's gone off to."

"Not yet," America agreed stating the unspoken thing, so far it seemed that only mostly good people were showing up here, but America didn't expect that to last, someone always had to ruin a good thing in her experience, it was more a matter of when.

"Yeah, I can kick too, but then just bam!" She splayed her hands wide, "Star portal. It stays open as long as I like when it's working, and I can send as many people through as I want, and then once I go through it closes." It was a pretty effective way to travel, America did so hate public transportation, there were very few people in this world she'd travel the normal way with.

America nodded, and only just managed to hold back the question about whether or not this was where she needed to be here as well, she supposed the answer to that would come in time. Maybe if she got her tardis back and she could get them all back then it would be exactly where she needed to be just like she said.

"That sounds pretty cool, Do you travel on your own like that?" America wondered, it wasn't every day you met someone who traveled through the universe the way you did, even if she had a ship to help her do it. "I hope you find it, it sounds like the sort of thing I'd like to see." And yeah she hoped maybe it was the sort of thing that they could use to get home too.

"Wow! Now I really wanna see it. Maybe someday." The Doctor sounded almost wistful at the idea. "That would be handy in a crisis, I think. M'sure that's how you used it.

The Doctor had been thinking the same thing about the TARDIS, but the trouble was she'd seen no sign of it in all her time here. That was troubling. She'd only just gotten it back from her big "lost in space" situation and now it was gone again.

"Sometimes, but I prefer to travel with friends. Rose was one of my friends, actually- wherever she went. Have you met Rose Tyler? She's brilliant! I'd been a few centuries since I saw her, though- very different face back then."

She beamed. "I'll definitely show it to you when I do find it. She's brilliant- bigger on the inside and with a swimming pool somewhere! I haven't found it, yet, though."

"I can show you later," America said hearing that wistful sort of note in the Doctor's tone, "I mean it won't open a proper portal, but I can show you what a shaky one looks like." Maybe she just needed to work on how to get them to even out? Stabilize the portals. She wondered how she'd do that, but wasn't sure she knew the answer, maybe someone would have an idea, the Doctor even.

America was usually more of a travel on her own sort of person, but she did like those times when she had friends with her, whether that was the Young Avengers or someone else. "Rose? I don't think I've met her yet," There were more people here than she realized, but that happened when you spent your time in a funk about all of this she supposed.

"Wait, you have a swimming pool inside of a police box?" America asked, stunned at the idea of it, now that sounded cool. "Now that I have to see, as soon as you find it again." She added because wow, she didn't know how that worked but it sounded awesome.

"I'd like that. Sounds epic- I guess I'm using epic now." She considered and grinned.

"She's brilliant! Blond girl. British. Very spunky. I love Rose. Traveled with her some years when I was my 10th, but then sort of....lost touch, so to speak. But she's here now and it's been great! Er, somewhere. I think she's trying to get food." The Doctor shrugged. She'd turn up, right?

"Yes. And a library. Used to have a tennis court, a gym, a bridge over a large pool of lava. Loads of stuff! It changes whenever the TARDIS decides she needs an upgrade. I'll definitely give you a tour when she comes up again."

"Epic is a good word," America agreed, grinning when the Doctor decided she was adding it to her lexicon.

Spunky and blond were both things that America thought were probably pretty good. And trying to get food, that sounded like Kate. The timeline was kind of weird though if so much time had passed since the Doctor had seen her last and Rose was still the same girl. "Is she like you?" America asked, because that made sense, "A Timelord, I mean?"

"A library, a tennis court, a gym..." America could hardly wrap her mind around something that was supposed to be the size of a police box having all of that inside. "Wait why would it need a pool of lava?" She asked cause that seemed kind of like a hazard more than an upgrade. But maybe it was some sort of time travel thing that she didn't understand?

"Oh, no. Rose is human. Very much human. I like humans. And Earth. Sort of fancy myself a protector of it." She smiled and stood straighter, leaning close to whisper to America. "See, we don't have Avengers in my universe. No. Just ordinary humans doing their best to survive and lots of alien threats. I step in to help where I can."

It's been working. So far. "Earth's still around, at least. Or it was when I left."

"Yes! It was very dangerous, almost lost Clara in that one- she's another companion I had years back. The TARDIS can be odd. One regeneration it has a llama barn, the next a pool of lava, and the next it's a walk-in freezer filled with cakes. I loved the cake freezer by the way. The TARDIS didn't put the cakes there, though. I did. Thought it was a good spot for cake."

"No Avengers? That's ... weird." It was probably a good thing that the Earth had the Doctor looking out for them if they didn't have the Avengers, it seemed like they were having to deal with some sort of cosmic threat every other week, so that there was some version of Earth that didn't need something like that? "But I mean it's great that you're looking out for them, it sounds like maybe they need it," If there were aliens out there trying to mess with them.

She huffed softly and nodded, "Yeah, I hope our Earth is still going to be there when we go back." Sure it wasn't all of them who ended up there, but you know they were gone and that didn't necessarily mean others weren't gone too - just because they weren't here.

Her eyes went wide when when The Doctor said she'd nearly lost someone called Clara inside her tardis before. The tardis sounded intense in a lot of ways, but pretty cool in a lot of others. "I hope we'll get to check it out sometime."

"Humans are surprisingly resilient, but I think it's best I step in a little here and there. Try not to interfere too much." She was terrible at that, though, since she tended to interfere a lot more than she might be letting on.

"Ya know, I was thinkin'' about that. Considering how many of us got here and the differences in our times, maybe this place doesn't abide by the same laws of time and space the rest of our universe might? If that's the case, time might not be passin' for the people back home at all. We might just be stuck in a weird kinda purgatory....thing. I don't like that word. I should find a better word." She made a face at the notion then shook her head.

She smiled and nodded, taking a drink from the empty bottle then making a face again to put it down. She needed a refill.

"That must be kind of nice, not to have to get involved too much." America always felt like maybe that was the route she should take but then things just always seemed to kind of happen around her and well - she couldn't just sit by and watch bad things happen. Not when she could do things to help.

America hadn't considered that time wasn't passing at all back home while they were stuck here, and it was the sort of thought that kind of made her sick to her stomach, the world just stopped because they weren't in it? What about everyone back home? "Purgatory?" America's eyes went wide and she made a face, yeah that was a terrible word for it, "Yeah, no, you need a better word." She agreed that just made this whole thing feel that much worse. Like they were dead the way some of these people had suggested they might be.

Noticing when the Doctor made a face at her bottle, America caught Peter's gaze and asked for two more for the both of them, maybe this wasn't that kind of bar, but it could be maybe? Whatever, Peter brought them another drink anyway. "I think maybe we should not think too much about what's happening back home, at least not until we've got a better idea about how to get back." It would just freak her out more about being stuck.

Instead she raised her bottle in offer of a cheers with the Doctor, "To figuring things out?" She suggested.

"Sometimes..." She looked down, thinking about all the times she did get involved too much. And how many times that cost her. Best not to dwell, right? She shrugged and forced a smile as she nodded to America. "It'll be fine. If time isn't passin' for them, maybe it's not passing for us." Her mind was already spinning with that, but then she stopped as America handed her another drink and the Doctor smiled.

"Right! To figure it out." She toasted with America before taking a drink. Best think about it tomorrow when she was sober. Rose was right about having a little fun tonight. Wouldn't change anything, would it? Maybe.
