Who: Carol Danvers and Peter Parker
What: Showers, Beer, and Singing!
Where: A random convention somewhere
When: Wednesday evening
Rating:Lowish? Maybe swearing?

Carol had been itching to go exploring through the doors for days now, but there had definitely been some hesitancy since talking to Tony about what might be on the other side. From what she'd seen over the communicator, it looked like people were coming and going freely from the same strange place. Whatever this "convention" was, there was plenty to report back. And she had to admit it, curiosity was getting the better of her.

She was dressed down for this, electing to leave her uniform at home. Even if she ran into trouble, she figured she could handle it. Unless there was a sudden alien attack or something. What were the odds? Right?

Carol didn't hesitate much, opening the door and stepping into...well, what was this place? It was clearly a large overly lit and crowded convention hall, but Carol wasn't really ready for just how big it all was. She was used to the idea that comic "conventions" were just something very geeky people did in dingy and dark comic store basements. This was entirely different. All around her people were wearing costumes, t-shirts with the faces of superheroes on them, and...wait, was that Rogers? No. Just some 17-year-old acne-ridden kid in some serious cosplay.

It reminded her too much of Los Angeles.

"Okay, maybe this wasn't a great idea..." She was considering going back through the door when something caught her eye. A comic book stand with a familiar looking face drawn on a large vinyl banner. "Oh, you've got to be kidding me..." Tony was right. Carol was pretty sure that it was the older version of him drawn on the banner and as she came closer, she saw various comic books ranging from "Iron Man" to "Thor". Curiously, she reached for an Avengers comic to start flipping through it, smirking when she realized that whatever this place was, it was definitely nothing she'd seen before.

She winced at the thought. She was pretty sure Peter was older than her (well, he'd actually aged older than she had),j and it reminded her that she was sort of held back in that way. She still wasn't sure how long she'd stay young like this. Or if her aging process was just slowed down. She finished her beer and nodded for the bartender to fill up their shots and her glass again. It was better not to think about it.

"Definitely not going to think about it anymore."

Spandex. Right. "It doesn't look like it offers much in the way of protection. Why not armor? Everyone else has armor. And where do you store your keys?" PRacticalities! Her suit had pockets. She couldn't live without pockets.

"We are definitely the cool ones." Okay, now she was starting to feel the alcohol a little. "We're singing again, right? I might even agree to Queen if you come up there."

Carol was definitely out drinking him, but he had a feeling she was a little more super powered than him when it came to things like this, so it was fine that she was ahead, he was absolutely going to be feeling this though that much he was fully aware of. His usual coping mechanisms were more cry in the shower than drink the pain away, but you know maybe this was an improvement on that.

"Probably a good idea." He agreed nodding. He didn't think it was something either one of them needed to spend too much time thinking about.

"It gets in the way, armor I mean. I've got to be able to move and bend and flip around and stuff and if I'm weighed down too much I can't move the way I need to." Everyone might have had armor but everyone else wasn't Spider-Man and that was the difference right? At least that's what Peter told himself. "Uh.... I don't keep keys with me. Sometimes I web my things up to the sides of buildings, but I tend not to get that stuff back, so usually I go without keys. Or other things."

Grinning Peter nodded, he absolutely was feeling the alcohol, but they were the cool ones whether he was on his way to drunk or not. "Uh yeah?" He supplied. "Especially if we're gonna do Queen," because that was an opportunity he wasn't about to pass up."

Carol looked surprised at how he kept his stuff, smirking. "So you don't lock your door, either? I'm surprised you have stuff at all after that." She really did think it was amusing. "Can't you build lockets in there? What about money? Do you pay for things in your suit?"

So many questions. Shew as full of them.

"How many drinks till I get that story out of you?" She was staring at the shots, then at him with the same grin she had earlier. "Because we're not leaving this bar until you tell me. Or you pass out. In which case, I will wait with you until you wake up and tell me."

Yup. When Carol put her mind to something, she got things done. Poor Peter probably didn't realize that when he agreed to come with her tonight. She took the shot, passing him the next one. "Don't worry, I'll stay sober enough for the both of us."

"I tend to use windows when I'm leaving the house in the suit." He admitted, most of the time the windows were located in places only he could reach anyway so it wasn't a big deal and if he did need to use the door Aunt May had kept a key for him in the past, and the house was technically his now so it was still there when he needed it.

"Where do you think I'm gonna put a pocket in this thing?" Peter asked standing up and running his hands down his sides like he was showing off the lack of hiding places, "I mean I can keep a little cash on me, sometimes you need a pizza when you're on patrol, you know? But cash folds flat, keys are a little more difficult."

And then she was prodding at him about his past again, his dramatic years and he imagined she was right, she would get it out of him eventually. Carol was maybe a little evil - but like.... in a good way? If that made sense and right then it made sense to Peter.

"Just know you might end up having to carry me back home." Peter warned and then took another shot before he settled in.

"So when I was younger there was this symbiote." He started, "I found myself bonded with it and initially I don't think I really was aware of it that much, at least not fully, because who thinks about things like that? You know? Anyway it started to change me a little, I started wearing a lot more black, I had terrible bangs." His hair was too short to show off what that had been like but he dangled his fingers up on his forehead like it would get the same impression across. "It was like I forgot how to be an awkward train wreck for a while, I could flirt with ease, I didn't mind showing off, I danced.... in public!" He added "On the street. I even went with a black suit. It was all very dramatic."

"Good point." She stared down at his suit then back at him, clearly seeing he had no room for pockets. And no shame, apparently. Carol took her shot and laughed. "So climbing in and out of windows in a spider suit wasn't conspicuous to your neighbors." It was a statement at this point, not a question.

When he talked about carrying him home, she laughed. "Yeah, I figured I would definitely be carrying you home- just don't throw up on my jacket or I will hurt you." That part she wasn't kidding about.

She made a weirded out face when he talked about this episode of his life. A symbiote? Right. It wasn't the weirdest story she'd heard. "So you had a terrible haircut and flirted in a dark suit. Got it. Sounds like that's not too abnormal for your early 20s. I had a perm once." She couldn't believe she admitted it. She turned to stare ahead and took a drink of her beer. "It was bad. Very bad. I burned any picture I had of it."

She paused, not looking at him and adding. "And if you every tell anybody, I will destroy you. Slowly. It will hurt. Got it?" She smiled back at him, but it was clear she was serious about that one.

Peter shrugged. "I'm very sneaky?" He offered, to be honest it was probably just pure luck that people hadn't seen him crawling in to windows and things like that over the years. Either that or all of his neighbors knew who was under the mask and just kept his secret for him, either way it worked.

"I've got a strong constitution." He promised. Yes Carol would absolutely need to help him home, but he wouldn't throw up because Peter Parker never threw up, so they were safe. And he could tell Carol was dead serious about the sanctity of her jacket.

"I mean, there was an alien involved too, I feel like I'd have made very different clothing and hairstyle choices without the alien." Because sure everyone acted like an idiot in their 20s it was just part of life and growing up and becoming a real live adult but Peter's had been a little more influenced by a man eating monster.

His eyes went wide with delight when Carol admitted to having a perm once, "Oh my god, tell me all about it." He said leaning forward on his seat, he had an image in his mind but he needed to know more to see if that fit what he imagined. "I won't tell anyone, I promise." He held out his hand pinky extended to make sure she knew just how serious he was.

Sneaky. Right. She actually snorted at that, shaking her head and sipping. "You know, everyone always blames the alien." The comment came as he explained the phone 'phrase' he'd gone through. "I was kidnapped by aliens and not once did I blame them for my style choices- well, except the uniform. But I like the uniform, so..."

At least Carol could joke about it now, right?

She laughed, clearly loosening up more as she drank, making him pinky promise of course. "It was huge. Like...bigger than I even knew. Big hair was the thing then. I told you I liked Guns N' Roses and all those bands were into big hair- I almost cut it short, but Maria convinced me not to. I owe her for that one." She smirked.

"I think it even had a fade on the side. Like I said, I thought it was a good idea until I saw it.

"No one ever expects an alien to actually have an opinion about fashion. And when they do it's just bad." Peter insisted. It sounded like Carol had a long and interesting history with aliens too, "At least they didn't try and bust out of our chests?" He offered, because at the end of the day if you managed to get away from an alien without being ripped open from the inside that had to count as a win.

It was better when they could joke and laugh at one another, so that worked for them. "Oh my god," Peter said with thinly veiled awe as Carol described her perm, one of those huge 80s perms that he'd only ever seen in pictures and all because she liked Guns N' Roses, it was amazing. He was starting to see it his head now as she described it for him, sitting back a little to get the full effect as he looked at her.

"I can't believe I have to keep this to myself now, this is the most amazing thing I've ever heard." He lamented when she told him there had been a fade along one side as well. "God I bet you looked amazing. I can't believe you destroyed the evidence!"

She actually laughed at that. "Oh man, I almost forgot about that movie. I loved Alien. Saw it five times in theaters." She grinned. "I think Ripley was one of the reasons I wanted to eventually work for NASA." One of the reasons she joined Pegasus in the first place.

"Not the wanting to have an alien rip out of my chest, thing. The badass female hero thing."

When he sat back, she saw exactly what he was doing and probably what he was thinking. "Stop. Now. You're not allowed to picture it." She was smirking as she said it, but he was lucky she had alcohol and wasn't taking this as seriously.

"I looked like I should've been dancing on the hood of a car. Or like my neck should be broken from the strain of the hair. Never again." Carol laughed. "Besides, where are the pictures of you with the bangs?"

"That movie is a classic." Peter agreed, he wished he'd been able to see that in the theaters, that would have been awesome. But well it was a little before his time, but he could totally see why she'd been inspired by it. "Ripley is amazing, she's such a badass." Maybe he had a type, MJ could be a bit of a bad ass in her own way, a little less alien fighty super human but in a way that worked for her.

Peter laughed when she accused him of picturing it, "How can you expect me not to picture it!" He protested as he smirked at him, "You tell me you had this amazing perm and you won't let me try and imagine it on you." He shook his head like it was a grievous thing she was trying to deny him.

And then she just added to it by giving the idea of her dancing on the hood of a car. "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. What am I supposed to do with this information? Carol, oh my god." He was never going to recover from this. "The pictures are back home, I didn't destroy them because one day someone is going to have to make fun of me for it."

"Think of something else. Like me photon blasting you through a wall. Or your grandma naked." She really had no idea how to stop him, but these were just suggestions off the top of her head.

"Maybe the alcohol is getting to me a little..." She laughed and shook her head, realizing she'd said way too much. "But seriously, I will kill you." Had she threatened him enough with bodily injury? Probably not. She really needed to come up with a better way of managing these things.

"Okay, so next stop is to find these pictures somehow. I can do that. This is my new mission." She finished off what she was going to say was her last beer (so she thought) and nodded. "You have guts, Parker, I'll tell you that. I obviously wouldn't hold onto any of mine. I'd have been laughed out of the military."

"You wouldn't photon blast me!" Peter laughed while Carol tried to distract him from the mental images that were running rampant through his mind now, he'd definitely had a little too much to drink but he was at that point where laughter was something he had very little control over.

"Me too, tiny bit" He agreed holding a hand up to indicate just how little that bit actually was. "I won't tell anyone!" He reminded her, "I never break a pinky promise, those are sacred." Because maybe it was silly and maybe he was going to laugh way too much at the idea of her in a huge amazing perm while dancing on the hood of a car, but he wouldn't share that information, he just really really really wanted to.

"If you figure out a way to do it you might just find us a way home." He decided when she declared her next mission, and even if that meant forever embarrassment over his past selfs fashion choices, if it meant getting everyone home Peter was willing to be subjected to that. "Thankfully no one can laugh you out of free lance work, so even if people found them I'd be pretty safe."

"I wouldn't? Oh, I think I would. Just give me a good reason and I would." She was laughing, too. It was hard not to. She really wasn't serious about it, but she also never knew her temperament and as much as she hated her old mentor, he was right about her and controlling her emotions. Carol wasn't very good at that part.

"Yeah, yeah, more than a little bit." She smirked. "And good! Because those are definitely sacred. You lose your pinky if you break it." That's what she'd always been told, anyway. Of course, it wasn't true. Probably. Funny how alcohol messed with your logic, wasn't it?

"Well, getting home is a bonus." Carol agreed with a nod. "So, we will find this picture and I will be able to die happy to know my life meant something." She was still chuckling as she reached for the empty glass and sighed. Right. She was supposed to stop. She glanced at the bartender and smiled as he came back over to refill them. Yeah. This was going to end badly.

"That and you wear a mask now. No one knows it's you under there, right?"

"Look at this face," Peter said pointing to himself as she laughed, "You couldn't shoot this face, I'm too cute." He teased her laughing, it had been a while since he'd been this drunk and enjoyed himself quite this much and even if she was being a little more honest with him about that photon blast Peter couldn't find it in himself to be scared of her. Oh he knew she could kick his ass if she really wanted, but Carol definitely didn't ping the spidey-senses so he wasn't worried about her either.

His eyes went wide when she suggested that he might lose his pinky if he broke his promise. "Are you gonna take it?" He asked the logic jump and teasing going over his head for just a minute. "I always heard you got a wet willy if you broke it." He admitted.

"You can't die just by looking at those pictures, how are you doing to spend time making fun of me if you do get the chance to see them?" He scoffed. And then they were getting more drinks and yeah, yeah this was just going to be it, their night was going to be drinking and Peter embarrassing himself and Carol carrying him back home again. Not that the knowledge of any of that stopped him from taking another drink.

"Well my... there's a few people who know." He told her shrugging, sobering just slightly for a moment. "But most people have no idea who is under the mask, that's the point though you know. Anyone can be under it."

"I could definitely shoot that face if you give me the reason. You're not that cute." She rolled her eyes. Okay, he was right. She had no plans on shooting him as of yet, but taunting him about it was fun.

Carol scrunched her nose at the wet willy comment and shook her head. "I think I rather loose the finger than get that." She had a brother and she'd experienced the horrors of having one. Yeah, she would pass on that. "And I don't take it. It falls off. That's what I've been told, anyway."

"No, I mean if I see them then no matter what else happens after that, I will die happily. Unless I'm failing to save others...then I might not die so happily. Okay, let's say it this way- if I die old and in bed and I know I've seen those pictures, that will be in my top...um...30 achievements?" Thirty seemed like a good enough number to the alcohol influenced Carol.

"So it won't matter if your friends see the pictures because you can technically wear the mask for the rest of your life and be fine." She smiled at the logic and took a drink of the new beer that had been offered. "So who was the red-head on the comic book cover?" Yup. Cutting straight to that. Carol was more observant than she let on, and one thing she'd noticed going through the convention was that the images of Peter seemed very close to a red-headed woman. She had assumed it was his girlfriend back home, but it was strange he hadn't mentioned her. And Carol had a bad habit of asking the wrong questions when tipsy.

"You think a face like this would give you a reason to shoot him?" He scoffed waving a hand over his face like that was all the illustration she should need as to why that idea was a complete impossibility.

The whole pinky promise thing was a little more than he could handle and he looked at his own pinky once more reminding himself that was a promise not to be broken whether or not it meant wet willies or the loss of a finger, he didn't like either option.

"Oh oh oh, okay okay okay, that's better. I mean I know the pictures are bad but they're not like that bad." He said shaking his head glad he'd caught up to the realization that he wouldn't kill her with his photos or trying to see them for herself. "Top 30?" His tone pitched up in shock and surprise. "Come on, that's gotta be like top 25 at least." He insisted.

And then she did it, she asked about MJ and Peter didn't quite know what to do but really there was no escaping it, it was true whether he said it or not. "Uh that is MJ, Mary Jane." He said clearing his throat and taking a moment for himself by drinking too long from his glass. "We went to school together, I ah - I married her." He admitted, with a small smile because yeah that was still a little unbelievable, that Peter Parker got to marry Mary Jane Watson. "And then we split up a little while back." He added after a beat. Might as well say it all in one go, like a band-aid right? Just rip it off. It was fine, he was fine. He just needed another shot.

"You've given me several reasons to shoot you today. You're very lucky I haven't yet." She was joking, of course (kind of). But it as in jest. Especially when he looked down at his finger and she realized what he was probably thinking.

"Psssh, no. I have a lot of good memories and accomplishments, thanks! Your pictures are lucky to break top 50. And that's me assuming they are really worth it." She was having too much fun, drinking and talking in between and laughing as she shook her head at the very notion.

And then it became very somber as talked about his wife. Er, ex-wife. Right. Carol regretted bringing it up as he watched it kill Peter's mood. She nudged her shot towards him and again waved the now suspicious bartender over. These two should be under the table by now, but they only looked like they were starting to feel it. He poured and stared between them. Weird.

"That's hard." She said quietly. "I'm sorry...I didn't realize." With a sigh, Carol put a hand on his arm. "So what happened...I mean, I'm already being intrusive, might as well go all the way, right?" A half-ass attempt at humor.

"Did she know?"

"What? No way!" Peter denied, okay maybe right there at the beginning, but beyond that he'd been great. Totally on his best behavior, he'd even sang Karaoke, that had to count for something.

"You haven't seen these pictures yet, you don't know how life changing they could be." He insisted, it had been a while since he'd been anything other than absolutely mortified by that point in his life so being able to laugh about it with Carol was a change he didn't mind in the slightest.

Of course the talk of MJ was a bit of a dampener on his high spirits, but it wasn't quite the sort of painful thing it had been before, he had a plan - well if he ever made it home. But the plan was still there. Thankfully Carol seemed to read his mind and got them a couple more shots after offering him hers.

"It's ... well it's not okay but it it is what is, you didn't know." He shook his head, she couldn't have guessed that about him and it wasn't the sort of thing he'd shared with anyone here yet. "Well I mean things happened, she wanted kids and I just.... I'm Spider-Man." He said like it explained everything, "There's always going to be someone who wants to kill me, to hurt me - and if they can't get to me they'd be only too happy to take it out on the people I love." It was why he wore the mask too, to keep them safe. "I couldn't do it. And she - she deserved a chance at that." It felt like doing the right thing at the time.

"She knows. She's the only one left that does."

"Way. At least when we first met. You're lucky I like you now." She smirked. But seriously, he was lucky she liked him now. So much, she was even giving up her alcohol for him. That meant a lot!

"We'll see. When I see the pictures, I'll make sure to tell you exactly how they make me feel. They better be amazing, though."

She just listened to his story and sighed when it was over. Kids. That was big. Carol had never really had that push to be a mom some other women did. Maybe it was because she was so focused on her mission. And maybe it was because she sort of already had that experience with Monica. Yup. Time to drink again. She took a shot and finally spoke up after a second.

"I get it. You need to protect her and bringing a little one into the world makes it harder- but...do you think that's what she wants? I mean, take it from someone who left their family to do the right thing, there are days I think back and wonder whether or not I made the right choice. I've missed so much. I might never see them again and it hurts to even think about that." So much time had already gone by. Damnit, she didn't like this feeling.

"More singing?" The question was a bit sudden, but it was clear she needed to find a way to stop talking about this subject. For both of them.

"Okay that I agree with," He huffed when she implied that it was only because she liked him now that she wouldn't shoot him. Either way Peter was pretty sure he was lucky that she liked him, whether or not hitting was an option.

Things had gotten heavy though, with the talk about MJ and his divorce and why he'd chickened out of it all. Carol was right though, he knew that now, had known before all of this but it was good to be reminded. "Yeah." He nodded, "There was a plan you know, before I ended up here, a try again plan, a leap of faith." Things hadn't quite worked out like that though, and now here he was ready to take that step, to make the choice a second time and hope that MJ would forgive him, and he couldn't get back to her.

"Yeah, yeah definitely more singing. I'll even to more Guns N' Roses if you want." He agreed with a small not quite there laugh, singing was just what they needed to distract themselves from where they'd ended up. Another shot and a song, that was always the cure wasn't it?

She put a hand on his shoulder and squeezed. "It's a good plan. You need to do the plan when you see her again- not if, when. Because we're going to get out of here and you will see her. And then you can apologize and it'll be fine." Carol started wondering how much she had to drink. She usually chose her words carefully, and she thought she was pacing herself.

Apparently not. Oh well, another shot and she finished the bear before slamming the glass on the table. "Singing is good. Queen?" She smirked and went over to the book. At least she wasn't stumbling. Finding a song, she laughed and walked over to show the bartender, who sighed and nodded. Then, Carol showed Peter. "Under Pressure. Bowie and Freddie. How can you say no? You're singing Freddie, by the way."

Peter nodded, it was a good plan, it was something - and it was better than the standing still he'd been doing up to that point. And they were getting home, he had to believe that because what did that mean for home if he was trapped here forever? No he was getting back and he'd be able to put things back to right again. Still he took one more shot because he needed it after that.

And they were going to be singing again, Peter perked up when she suggested Queen, where Carol was a little more sure on her feet Peter felt a little like the floor might just be moving beneath him, just a little, not a ton, it just meant his senses were working a little harder to keep him both upright and steady on his feet. "Oh yes, There's no saying no to that," He agreed then laughed when she said he was going to be responsible for Freddie's part.

"Just remember this was your choice when it comes time to hit those notes." He warned just as the opening baseline for their song of choice began.

"I will take that chance. I believe in you, though." She put an arm around him to help him to the stage, letting him take the mic stand first and hopping on as the familiar rift started. Oh yes. There were sell phones already out. This was going to either be amazing or a complete disaster.

And she grinned and practically belted into the mic with him. Well, it wasn't so bad as belting, but she was definitely more than happy to let loose on this one.

"Pressure! Pushing down on me, pressing down on you, no man asked for. Under pressure that burns a building down, splits a family in two, puts people on the streets."

Yeah, she was glad she was able to give Peter that part because she could just grin and laugh at the poor guy as he tried to keep up.

"It's the terror of knowing what this world is about. Watching some good friends screaming, "Let me out!" Pray tomorrow gets me higher. Pressure on people. People on streets." Yup. If those videos got out they would definitely regret this in the future.

With Carol's arm around him and the amount of alcohol he'd consumed Peter was ready and willing to tackle those high notes - whether or not that was actually a wise decision on his part was another story all together, but it was good to let loose sometimes. To shake off the depression and just sing his heart out - whether or not it actually sounded good wasn't really the point was it?

He didn't have the same nerves that he did earlier in their evening, he didn't stumble over himself nearly as much this time, thanks to the added alcohol running through him and more familiarity with this song than he'd had with their first.

Which was probably for the best because there were some parts in this that a man Peter's age should simply not have tried.

"Turned away from it all like a blind man sat on a fence but it don't work keep coming up with love but it's so slashed and torn."

Maybe people were laughing, some had definitely gotten their phones out again but when the big notes came around Peter just closed his eyes and let it all out.

"Why, why, why? Can't we give ourselves one more chance? Why can't we give love that one more chance? Why can't we give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love?"

Okay, Carol couldn't contain herself. She joined in, laughing and putting an arm around Peter as they both belted into the mic.

And she was doubled over when it was all said and done. The last echoes of the song were still fading out and the bar erupted into cheers. She forced herself to stand and waved as she stumbled off the stage. Yup. Straight back to the benches. "Okay, that was the best time I've had in 20 years. Give or take." She really couldn't remember having so much fun since her time as Vers.

"It's amazing what beer and karaoke can do." She stared at the machine, already getting an idea. Grinning, she looked at Peter. "You thinking what I'm thinking?"
