I was discussing this withbohemianspirit, and one thing I've wondered since reading Deathly Hallows is: Why didn't Snape fight back or try to escape when Voldemort killed him? Did it happen too quickly for him to react? Or did he deliberately sacrifice himself to protect Harry? (There were some suggestions on ![[info]](https://www.insanejournal.com/img/community.gif)
lupin_snape that a prolonged battle might have drawn Harry out of hiding and put him in danger, or that a slow death by snakebite was preferable to a Killing Curse, so that Snape had enough time to pass his memories on to Harry.)
