[12 Aug 2009|03:09pm] I'm looking for a very specific line involving two characters completely alone in the world. It would be based after the book Z for Zachariah (though I don't expect many people have read it, nor would knowledge of the book be necessary for the line). Here's the essential rundown: Character A lives in a small valley with his parents and siblings, the town very small and secluded, where the family works a farm and travels to the nearest actual town for major supplies, as well as school, restaurants, etc. A WWIII equivalent breaks out, and with the use of nuclear weapons, all of the surrounding land and population have essentially been wiped out, either by the blasts or nuclear fallout. The small valley is miraculously spared, though one by one, the few families disappear out into the wasteland to search for life, but never return. Character A's family is one of these, and Character A is left all alone on his small farm in his empty house with a fresh running stream but no electricity nor any more supplies than are currently present in the single general store. Almost a year after the war, Character B shows up wearing a suit that has kept him and his meager supplies safe from the radiation. The line would basically involve the two characters dealing with the reality of being (presumably) the last two people on earth, and with each other. We want to learn how alliances formed, how friendships tensed and dissolved, how brothers became enemies, how enemies became brothers. We are just as interested in delving into inner, personal conflicts as exploring those of a more universal kind. What were these characters really thinking and feeling? What was running through their minds? This is what we want to discover. We're fleshing out the First War as it's meant to be fleshed out. There's no spin on bumpshunted; there doesn't need to be. There's enough to play out already without throwing in an alternate universe setting or time-travelling the Trio in to shake things up.
