Bellatrix Lestrange ([info]amazon_star) wrote in [info]shapeofthings,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange
When: Tuesday evening
Where: A village in Maramures
What: Bella finally gets to do some muggle-hunting
Rating: Violence, undoubtedly
Status: In-progress

Bellatrix was clearly restless. As if setting half their camp on fire wasn't enough of an indication of that fact. But she was sick and tired of sitting around the camp just waiting for a vampire who would be willing to lead them to the castle. Clearly that was not going to happen so she decided it was long past time to take matters into her own hands. And that meant delivering dinner to the vampires. It may not have been the most rational of plans, but well, Bellatrix had never been accused of rationality in the first place.

Just before sundown, Bellatrix scribbled a quick message in her journal to the other Death Eaters and donned her heaviest cloak before stalking out of her tent. She did not particularly need company for this expedition - at least she didn't believe she did, although a more sane person would definitely question the wisdom of walking right up to a nest of vampires alone. But there was at least a small part of her twisted mind that recognized the fact that this would undoubtedly be easier with accompaniment.

That did not mean she was going to wait long, however. She was quite serious about the five minutes she was willing to wait before setting off to the nearby village to find some Muggles who would make a suitable dinner. And even waiting that long was going to be a challenge as she was already fidgeting with her cloak and pacing small circles in front of her tent. Aside from Rodolphus, there was not a useful one in the lot of them as far as she was concerned.

Rodolphus had to resist the urge to roll his eyes at the entry from his wife. Taking one last drag off of the cigarette, he snubbed it out before standing up from the rock he had been sitting on. Shoving his hands into his pockets he turned and headed back towards the camp. He didn't honestly care if any of the others went along or not, but knowing Bella she hadn't exactly thought everything through yet and Rodolphus wasn't willing to just let her run off half cocked without some form of backup along to help her.

Coming up from the back side of her tent he paused for a moment and watched her pace and fidget, shaking his head a bit at her energy. Hopefully things would progress along much more quickly now. He really was sick and tired of living like he had been. He had a manor for a reason after all and it wasn't so that he could sleep outdoors and freeze various body parts off.

"If you keep pacing like that Bella, your going to wear a hole into the ground."

Bellatrix was a bit lost in her thoughts as she paced - from visions of slaughtered Muggles to her near-constant fantasies of her Lord's resurrection. As much as she would deny it, anyone who knew her could see that she was not quite herself these days. Beyond the misery that was this stupid camp in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by idiots, she was still not taking the "disappearance" (as she had come to call it) of their Lord well. At all. She was not moping or brooding or anything so ridiculously absurd and humiliating as that, but she was definitely on edge. And even though she had been expecting him, she couldn't help but be startled at the sound of her husband's voice.

Spinning around, she drew her wand and pointed it at her husband for just a moment before the more sensible part of her mind kicked in. Right, no need to hex Rodolphus. Not at the moment anyway, although that could certainly change at any given moment. Instead she put her hands on her hips and tilted her head as she glanced at the path she was beginning to wear in the frozen ground. A curious expression crossed her face as she found herself momentarily fixated on thoughts of just how deep of a hole she could create.

"Well it's always good to have some place to bury the bodies," she replied, her attention snapping back to Rodolphus as she gave him an amused little smirk.

Some part of him wished there was something he could do for her. It wasn't often that he should caring or concern but when it came to Bella he did so every once in a while. Never anything big or flashy, just something small to prove to her that he did care. But in this situation Rodolphus was at a loss for what to do to help put her at ease for a while. All of the stress and tension she had placed herself under wasn't good for her, or anyone else for that matter.

Rodolphus remained still and calm when he came face to face with her wand. Something that would have made anyone else jump at the thought of being on the other end of Bella's wand but Rodolphus had gotten used to it. Its not like it was the first time he had found himself there. Arching an eyebrow at it though his eyes flickered between her wand and her face and back again before he took a step closer to her, his hands shoved deep in the pockets of his coat.

The edge of his lips quirked up in a small smile as he watched the expression cross her face and he could only wonder what had brought it there.

"Why bury them when you can burn the bodies? Its much easier. Plus, you get the added bonus of hearing everyone else bitch when you bring out the spell. Its a win-win situation my dear."

"Variety," she replied with a firm nod. Truthfully she didn't tend to give much thought to body-disposal - either she'd leave them where they fell or go for a quick vanishing spell. And they both knew she was never going to actually dig a hole and give a proper burial to one of her victims, but the idea of variety was one that appealed to her. "Or we could bury them alive. Just leave their head above the ground like a gargoyle in front of our tent." Actually that was an appealing thought.

"For tonight I think I'd like to burn the entire village down. After we get our bait," she mused. Truthfully she'd like to burn the entire damn country down but that might be more of a challenge. She could settle for just the village, she supposed. "I'm sure Evan will complain about that as well, but I think I will just set him on fire next."

Her eyes darted around the campsite as she looked to see if any of the others were coming to join them. Not likely. And while she was derisive of their apparent reluctance to get their hands dirty, she knew this little expedition would be much more pleasant if it was just her and Rodolphus.

"Are we burning it house by house to see how long it takes for them to notice what we're doing or will be doing it in groups and seeing who alerts the others first?" Fire always was a good thing in Rodolphus' mind. It created chaos and panic amongst the masses and that was a definite plus as well. Especially having been stuck in this god forsaken place. He might not have been there as long as the others but the short amount of time he had been there had been enough to convince him that this needed to be finished and soon.

"Evan, well never mind what Evan needs. Although I'm certain that setting him on fire will be a vast improvement to the lack of a personality he has. All that shrieking and running about like a mad man? I might just have to show an emotion towards him for that."

He glanced around them as well, waiting to see if any of the others were going to show up and upon seeing no one he moved closer to her, so that their shoulders were touching.

"What do you say we make this a two person excursion only? The others will just have to find their own entertainment and make their own plans if their too damn lazy to get off of their arses when others take the initiative." He arched an eyebrow at her hoping she would agree as the mention of violence and watching others suffer now had him on edge and alert to do so.

Bellatrix nodded her agreement, her lips quirking into a slight smile at his suggestion. "Indeed, we will have far more success without them. No need for dead weight," she declared. Her slight smile turned into a full-on grin as she impulsively looped her arm through Rodolphus's. (What? It was cold! At least that was what she told herself to rationalize the display of affection...)

Practically pulling him across the camp, she started off towards the nearby village with the eagerness of a child on Christmas morning. Now that they were done with the insufferable waiting, her mood had lightened considerably. She too was excited at the prospect of carnage and fire and did not particularly care if her five minutes had passed.

"I plan on starting with one house and seeing how far it spreads before fanning the flames. So to speak. Nothing but little wooden houses. They might as well be made of cardboard with the way they will go up in smoke." Her eyes flashed with excitement at the thought. Ever since she was a child she had always had a strange affinity with fire. It was little wonder that her first spell had been an incendio.

Of course there was the actual purpose of this expedition to consider, despite how easily she was distracted by the prospect of burning the entire village down. "I think four or five of the Muggles will be sufficient for the vampires. Everyone else can die." Really she didn't have the slightest idea what the vampires would see as a suitable "gift" but there was nothing wrong with improvising, at least as far as she was concerned.

Rodolphus made no comment when she looped her arm through his. Instead he just moved closer to her rationalizing it in his mind that the last thing he wanted was a Popsicle for a wife. That would not be as enjoyable as Bella was.

Although as she began to pull him away from the camp and towards the village he couldn't stop the grin that spread across his face at her apparent eagerness. At least the evening wasn't going to be dull. Not if she was already this excited. The village would never know what hit them. He was almost tempted to just sit back and watch her work, to see just how much destruction she could do on her own but his hand had already wrapped firmly around his wand, a list of spells running through his mind as he started picking them out and deciding which ones he would use. No he could watch her work some other time. Tonight he intended to be right there beside her causing just as much destruction and damage.

"The more who die the better. I say the first five we come across we stun and set aside and then play with the rest. I don't see how it would really matter what the five are or what they look like. So long as their blood stays pumping I think that should be more than enough for a vampire." He honestly wasn't sure what it was that would make a victim seem delectable but he figured so long as it was alive that would work. If not, well there were always other villages they could visit.

A month of almost complete inaction had left Bellatrix beyond restless for a little good old fashioned death and destruction and she swore her hand was positively tingling as she clutched tightly at her own wand. Unlike Rodolphus, she didn't plan out the possible spells to use, instead preferring to act on impulse. Besides, she liked to tailor her curses to her victims. It was more entertaining that way.

"Agreed," she replied. "I do not think they will turn down a free meal in any shape." At least she hoped they wouldn't, since that was what this entire plan was riding on, but she did not have the time or patience for such silly things as doubts right now. Besides, even if they did not succeed in negotiating with the vampires, they were clearly going to have a great deal of fun regardless.

The way to the village was made easier by the scorched shrubbery from Bella's earlier display of her fiendfyre spell, a fact she noted with pride. And Evan had said there was no point to it! At least they weren't hacking their way through overgrown bushes now.

It wasn't long before the lights from the village came into view. And a middle-aged man who was walking down the path in front of them. Bellatrix unhooked her arm from Rodolphus and shot a quick stunning spell at the man. Still, she couldn't help but frown slightly as he fell to the ground. That had been decidedly unsatisfying, but work first, then play. She was definitely going to have to keep reminding herself of that.

"If they do then perhaps they should look into finding a new profession as it would seem that being a vampire was no longer suiting them."

Rodolphus' grip on his wand tightened as they got closer to the village. It wasn't out of necessity seeing as how they were a bunch of Muggles but more out of reflex and a reassurance to himself that he still had it.

It amused him a bit to see that the path to the village was well laid out. Granted most of it scorched, blackened earth but it still amused him none the less that it lay pointing towards the village.

Taking up a defensive stance the moment Bella's arm left his he fell into step right beside her, his steps becoming softer and quicker as the attacker took over. It wasn't often that he did something like this, but with Bella along he wasn't about to pass it up.

"What do you say love, to letting you have your fun while I work?" He knew she would much rather prefer to toy and play with them anyhow. And at least if one of them were focused long enough to get their task completed that then the fun could truly be had once their attention wasn't divided any longer.

Bellatrix's frown quickly disappeared and was replaced by an oddly bright grin at Rodolphus's suggestion that he take care of the boring work part of their little expedition. She did appreciate that he knew her so well, even if she wouldn't say as much. Not to mention that she wasn't going to have to limit herself to boring stunning spells of all things. "I'll try to keep the fire away from you," she teased. "Do be quick about it so you can join me. Before I manage to burn everything down myself."

With that she was off, striding quickly into the village proper. It was mostly dark by now but there were still a few villagers outside, obviously trying to finish their work as quickly as possible so they could get inside. Understandably the natives did not seem too keen on remaining outside after nightfall. But Bellatrix was not worried about the vampires tonight. Aside from her general attitude of being indestructible, she was confident that the fire would keep any hungry vampires away while they worked.

The village itself was quite small - really no more than a few clusters of houses, the obligatory church and an assortment of shops and communal buildings all nestled in the trees. Bellatrix's eyes fell upon a large, middle-aged man who was approaching her with a smile. Apparently these people did not have any qualms about speaking to strangers. But Bellatrix was not in the mood to talk and instead she gave a quick wave of her wand in her direction, setting him on fire. As the man began to scream and flail about Bellatrix found herself wondering if just one man would be enough to bring the entire wooden village to ashes. Not that she had the patience to wait and find out. A few others ran to his assistance but Bellatrix ignored them for now, instead turning her attention to the nearest house where a woman was peering nervously out of her window. Two more waves of her wand and Bellatrix had locked the door and set the roof on fire. She could feel her own adrenaline running through her body as she took a moment to admire just how quickly her little fire was spreading through the house.

"Have no fear pet, you will not be alone in the area this time." Standing still for a moment as he watched her head off he couldn't help but smirk at the change in her attitude. There were days it amazed him at how quickly it happened and what it took to do so. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts he let his wand drop down into his hand fully before heading in the direction opposite from where Bella had went. After all it wouldn't do him any good to try and secure their bait in the same area where Bella was happily slaughtering them.

Whistling softly to himself he headed towards what looked to be a small pub, the door blasting open and causing several of the patrons inside to jump as he headed inside. Taking a head count he was pleased to find that there was just enough in there to meet their quota for needed bait. Grinning darkly he flicked his wand once, amused to see all four of them fly back against the wall. With another couple of flicks they were bound and silenced.

"Well this was easy enough. Now its time to play." Giving his new prisoners a simple tilt of his head he turned and headed back outside, placing wards around the building to ensure that nothing would destroy it or those inside, even Bella's affinity for fire.

He turned at the sound of the screams, his smile only growing darker as his imagination presented him with several different pictures of what could be happening as he headed towards them, his soft whistling lost to the sounds of the screams.

As Rodolphus came around one of the houses he stopped and leaned against it, his arms crossed loosely over his chest as he choose to just watch for a bit rather then join in with her fun right away.

Bellatrix was quite fixated on her work, which at the moment involved making an older woman watch as her own entrails were ripped from her body. She had another two villagers on the ground and screaming under her cruciatus and it was rather like she was conducting some sort of perverse symphony (although she would quite strenuously object to anyone who referred to her work as perverse.)

Her own cruel smile was still spread across her face as she worked. Unfortunately the older woman did not manage to live long without her entrails - pity, that - and Bellatrix instead found herself searching for her next victim. Two young men who were foolish enough to come at her found themselves falling to the ground, clutching at their throats which were now split neatly from one side to the other.

To most this would be seen as nothing more than a senseless and inhuman slaughter with no purpose, but to Bellatrix it was no different from people who chose to hunt animals to amuse themselves. After all, they were just Muggles and at least in her mind, not that different from a deer or boar or whatever it was that people hunted. Truthfully she tended to have a bit more consideration for animals than Muggles (they were far less annoying,) but that was beside the point.

The fire was continuing to spread among the houses and Bellatrix turned her wand on another house to encourage it further with yet another incendio. She was in rare form tonight. It was the first time since the Dark Lord's "disappearance" that she had really had the opportunity to unleash her magic like this and she had far too much frustration and anger to burn off. It was certainly working, at least. If she had been honest with herself she might have been forced to admit that she was not entirely in control, instead acting on sheer impulse and a rather irrational desire to just destroy everything in sight, but Bellatrix did not let herself be troubled by such thoughts.

As she turned to find her next target she spotted Rodolphus obviously watching her as he leaned against one of the houses and her smile softened ever so slightly into one that was only mildly less predatory. "Enjoying the show?"

Others would have called it inhumane, cruel, muderous and a whole slew of other things what she was doing, what they were doing but in Rodolphus' world it was art. The way the blood flowed, the way the pain sounded when it came from their victims in the form of screams, cries, and pleas of stop and other such nonsense that never really mattered to them. No in his world, this was normal and there was nothing better than watching Bella when she was truly let go unchecked.

Smirking he pushed away from the house he had been leaning against and headed towards her, watching as the muggle came up behind her.

"Quite. Its one I never grow tired of seeing." A dark smile spread across his face as the muggle dropped to the ground behind her, his blood staining the ground darker from the hole that used to be his throat.

"I must admit though, they are putting up as much of a fight as I thought they would. Its always so much better when they try to run. The chase is half the fun."

"Running didn't end well for them," she replied, tilting her head in amusement as she gestured towards the two who were still suffering under her cruciatus and the entrail-less woman. "I am trying to see how long they can retain consciousness. Research project," she explained, as if this were a perfectly normal curiosity. But for them, it was. She had always wanted to know if it was possible to kill someone with the cruciatus alone, or if not, just how much damage could be done and this seemed like as good of an opportunity as any to test that.

"But most of them seem to prefer hiding in their houses. Which might make sense if they weren't on fire..." She shrugged and pointed her wand at another house where someone was clearly trying to peer out through the curtains, hoping not to be noticed. She blasted the door off and aimed another incendio straight through to the back of the house, sending the occupants fleeing out the now non-existent door. If Rodolphus wanted a chase, she figured the least she could do was give one to him.

It was rather strange how few of them were running and if Bellatrix had thought about it she might have realised that going into the forest at night was simply not done among these people who lived in fear of the vampires surrounding them. But she didn't particularly care about whatever internal dilemmas the Muggles were facing over their own survival.

Blasting the entire front of the next house, Bellatrix could not help but laugh at the stunned faces of the Muggles inside. One was set on fire and another received a particularly nasty blasting hex straight to the chest that ripped him almost completely apart, all before either of them could even think to run. She left the woman alone (for now) as she had just fallen to the ground of her own volition and was alternately screaming in terror and sobbing over her now-dead relatives in a way that Bella found terribly amusing.

Rodolphus arched an eyebrow as he glanced at the pair, a dark smirk spreading across his face as he headed towards the closest one to him and knelt down. For a moment he just stared at the pathetic sot before poking him with his wand, highly amused at the high pitched scream that came from the man.

"Oh my, I do think this one has gone and been broken Bella. Can I put him out of our misery?" A childish smirk now spread across his face but the look in his eyes said he was being anything but childish. One did not joke around when it came to killing muggles and with the way this one was screaming and sobbing Rodolphus knew he had been pushed past the boundaries in his mind to the point where nothing remained.

"How long? Has he been under that is? I'm curious if he lasted longer than the last ones you tried this experiment with." He watched in amusement as the muggles that had been hiding inside gave way to fleeing. Grinning at his wife he stood up and set off after them at a slow pace, allowing them to believe they would get away.

He would toy with them for a bit before taking what he wanted in blood. After all the more worked up they were the better it was for him when he finally got his hands on them. Smirking he kept to shadows watching as what he assumed to be the wife kept glancing behind her every few steps or so. Rodolphus wasn't sure if she was looking for him or something else. Whatever it was though he wasn't quite ready to give in yet and kill her. With a flick of his wand a fire ball sailed past her and lit the tree she had been standing next to on fire. The shrill pitch of her scream had him chuckling as she took off running again. Oh this was going to be fun.

"Of course," Bellatrix replied in answer to his question of whether he could kill the suffering Muggle. Once they were broken, they were no use to her any longer and her attention had moved on to the burning houses. Just like a child's toy that had been cast aside in favour of something newer and shinier.

"Since I started. They were the first two I attacked," she explained, although a glance in Rodolphus's direction revealed that he had already taken off after the fleeing Muggles. She smiled, watching him until he disappeared into the trees before turning her attention back to her own toys. Rodolphus was more than capable of taking care of himself and well, she had never really shared his appreciation for running after their prey.

Leaving the little area where she had stationed herself for her target practice, Bellatrix stepped over the corpse of one of the Muggles and swiftly walked towards one of the houses (making sure to choose one that wasn't too close to the spreading fire.) This was what she preferred. Storming into their houses, kicking down their doors and watching the expressions of sheer terror that invariably crossed their face. She liked to corner them, to trap them with nowhere to run like the little rats that they were.

Blasting off the door, she swept into the house and flashed a thoroughly malicious smile at the couple that was huddled in the corner of their small living room. "Hello," she greeted sweetly as she tilted her head and studied the two, trying to decide just what to do with them. Finally she gave a couple of quick waves of her wand and they were pinned on opposite walls from each other, unable to move and forced to watch whatever torments Bellatrix decided to inflict on them. And to start she decided she would just make them bleed. Another flick of her wand and a series of long, shallow gashes appeared across the man's chest as both of them screamed - one in pain, the other in horror. And Bellatrix could definitely tell the difference.
