It was a quiet suburb. the kind of place where one thought one could raise their children in safety but it was also the kind of place where your neighbor could be a serial killer and you wouldn't know... And the neighbors make really great pie. No, honest. They do.

It was like any other day in the nexus, really it was. Except for one tiny little thing. It wasn’t the fact it was had rained purple marshmallow peeps again. It wasn’t that one of the forests had moved into a location high in the sky. It wasn’t even the fact that the sky itself was a light shade of green. No, it was the fact that there was a gated community on the outskirts of one of the larger cities in the nexus. A gated community wasn’t so bad. Even that wouldn’t be so bad except for the small fact that it was blocked from even Silence’s view. That just wasn’t possible in this particular nexus. After all, she made it. Nothing happened without her knowing.

And yet it was.

The most interesting part was that according to all her research, the community had been there for over twenty years. That also wasn’t possible since the nexus itself hadn’t been created until a few years ago.

Then there was the perfection. The smiling faces. It all seemed so.. good. Homey. Neighborly.

It was making Sil a little nauseous. No one could be that happy! Nothing could be that perfect! Not without plenty of medication and booze at any rate.

Another interesting thing? Stories of the community were being leaked out to other places, almost as if they were looking for visitors. Or maybe new neighbors. Either way, it didn’t sit right with her. Her plan? Let those mysteries leak out more. Get people investigating for whatever reason they chose to do so.

After all, if they could keep her from seeing them, they’d no doubt be able to tell if she went and investigated personally. And someone blocking a higher power’s view? Never a good thing.

Serenity Hills was now on Sil’s list. Of course, her list also included reality television, Blockbuster Video, those guys on the corner of Fifth and Hemingway that made her want to light people on fire, Oompa Loompas, cauliflower, people who cut her off on the highway, that cop that gave her a speeding ticket on her sixteenth birthday, Little Debbie (don’t ask)… It was a long and eclectic list.

She wondered if the gated community had any brochures. She liked those.
