Lochfest, continued
Who: Everyone who wishes to attend
What: Loch Fest 76, a rock festival
Where: Loch Lomond, Scotland
When: July 18-20, 1975
Rating: tbd

Loch Lomond is a fresh water loch twenty-four miles long and with a variable width of between three-fourths of a mile to five miles, with an average depth of about 37 metres, and is located approximately 23 km north of the city of Glasgow. Along the eastern bank of the loch runs the West Highland Way. Also situated on the eastern side is Ben Lomond, the most southerly of the Scottish Munro peaks. On the south western shore can be found the Loch Lomond Country Club, host of many international events including the Scottish Open. On the western shore runs the A82, the main arterial road, but improvements are sorely needed and the locals complain constantly that it is a bottleneck.

Around 1841 the loch was immortalized in a well known song. The origins of the song remain unknown, but it is believed to have been penned by a Scottish soldier awaiting his death while in captivity. Another version holds that it was written by a Scottish soldier during the retreat from England as part of the 1745 Rebellion, while a third version tells of two brothers being held in captivity, and speaks of sacrifice of one for the other. No matter who wrote it, it is a lovely song - Oh, ye'll tak' the high road, and I'll tak' the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye; But me and my true love will never meet again On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond and one which is famous the world over.

Let us fast forward now a wee bit. It is the year 1976. And Loch Lomond is about to become the host of the biggest such event in the history of the UK, one which shall eclipse and surpass the Woodstock Festival, held a mere seven years before in rural New York. Muggles and wizards alike, although of course the muggles are unaware of the nature of the wizards with whom they are sharing this experience. The organizers of the event, who think they have everything well in hand, are keeping a careful eye on the attendees. Tents are permitted, of course, and for those less hardy, some accommodation can be obtained nearby. But I am sure there are few who are willing to leave the site of such festivities to seek them.

Come one, come all, to the event of the season - Loch Fest 76 is now open!

Sirius had to chuckle at James' determined doggedness - no pun intended - and he was grateful that there was no bird that he felt that way about. What a lot of bother. Although his parents had hinted that an arranged marrige was going to come his way soon enough, but he pushed those thoughts out of his head for now. For a moment he wondered if Regulus might be here, but the absurdity of that notion struck him too, and he simply snorted at himself, before turning back to the question at hand.

Food, what kind of food did they want? One look toward Remus and he knew the answer, easily enough. With a huge grin, he replied, "Why, chocolate, of course, mate, isn't that the best food in the world?" And he flashed Remus his infamous Sirius Black daredevil bon vivant grin.

The point of relationships and marriage wasn't a prominent thought in Remus' mind, but it was amusing to hear James' determination when it came to his attempt at courting Lily. One day he'd get the clue to tone it down, Remus just didn't know when that revelation would hit the thick headed boy.

Honestly, he hadn't been paying much mind to the thought of food until Sirius spoke. Chocolate. That was right in his top three major weaknesses, as everyone knew (but they didn't know it wasn't top of that list.) He supressed a blush with little success - damn Sirius and that smile - tearing his eyes away to at least pretend like he was looking at the concessions, a smile coming to his lips in spite of himself. "Shouldn't those words be coming out of my mouth?" He teased in an attempt to keep his mind focused.

Unlike the suave Sirius and the social lite James, Peter was scared shitless when it came to girls except for Lily. Not saying that Lily wasn't a girl because she was very female, but she was also a friend of his that helped him out and he was always on the off limits list because James liked her so darn much. That made it just easier to be around her. But back to why girls made Peter run to the hills. They just made him nervous, when he was nervous he tends to be clumsy, when he's clumsy he gets kicked out of stores, classrooms, or just embarrasses himself to death so bottom line. No girls even though they're really really pretty and soft...

"Chocolate sounds good," he mumbled looking around not really paying much attention.

James rolled his eyes, his stomach growling in protest as they stood there babbling about chocolate and his love life. Time was a wastin'! They needed to get food and hit the stage! So, in all the glory of James and his ADD, he spotted a particularly tasty looking counter and grinned. "I don't know about you gents, but I could go for some real food," he declared, unlinking his arm from the line and wandering off toward the inviting smells of something sure to be deep friend and or greasy...possibly both. They would either follow or not, that was up to them.

Sirius was having a moment of his own, his attention being strenuously torn between chocolate and Remus, the two ideas merging into one fell swoop, his eyes lighting upon a line that was shorter than the others, and without conscious thought he grabbed Remus by the arm and dragged him toward the Mecca which was in the opposite direction from that taken by Mr. Potter. "I can smell it, Remus," he murmured in fascination, his mouth already salivating in anticipation, "Can you smell it, Remy?"

Their little group separated in the blink of an eye, leaving him confused for a moment. This wasn't uncommon really, James took his own direction more often than not and Sirius was the same way. Inevitably, he ended up at Sirius' heels, which left a very confused Peter most of the time. He couldn't help but smile a bit to himself as he followed most willingly. He couldn't say he wasn't happy to be alone with Sirius, it just put an odd sort of weight on his mind with how he felt about him, those feelings still kept to his mind alone. "You know me too well," he laughed, the chocolate already piquing his senses. His two major weaknesses: Sirius and Chocolate.

Sirius pulled Remus until they were at the end of the rather short line, keeping a protective hand upon his arm lest the surging crowd around them accidentally separate them. Only two people stood between them and paradise. As they waited, Sirius let his eyes drift over the menu on the back wall, which spoke of so many types of chocolatey goodness, to the crowd around them where he thought he spotted a familiar face. "Remus," he said, tightening his grip on the boy's arm, and nodding toward the sea of faces, "I thought I saw that lunatic Trelawney standing out there, do you see her too or am I hallucinating?"

He followed more than willingly, keeping close to Sirius as they made their way over to the line he had spotted. Merlin, where would he ever start? Chocolate was a simple fact of his life and there were so many choices it was boggling. It took him a moment to realize Sirius had said his name, he was so caught up in the menu, but when he noticed the pressure on his arm he looked over. "Hm? What? Sybill?" He cocked his head slightly, turning again to look out into the crowd, leaning this way and that to get a good look. This didn't seem like a place for her, not to Remus anyway, the poor girl. And, Merlin's beard, Sirius was right. "You shouldn't be hallucinating," he smirked, "unless you or James put something in the pumpkin juice this morning I should know about," he teased, nodding out into the crowd. "I see her, just there. Poor thing, she looks lost."

"Would we do that?" Sirius mock protested, although the answer was undoubtedly yes if they could get away with it. "Quick, look away!" Sirius cried out in horror as he thought Trelawney was turning toward them. He put his arm about Remus and turned him hastily so that his face was not visible should the crackpot happen to look their way. Although now, because of the angle at which they had been standing, his face was buried in Sirius' chest - for now, at least, Sirius was the taller of the two, though that would not always be the case.

He froze in that position, watching Sybill, and as she turned her head, craning as if searching for someone or something, he quickly bent his own head, running smack dab into Remus' shoulder.

"Of course you would," he teased and there was no doubt in his mind if it wasn't for the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Potter, they would have done just that. He was taken by surprise by Sirius' sudden panicked outburst, as if Sybill's presence might cause him to burst into flame or something (though, he would admit, she was...odd.) Unfortunately, Sirius' sudden move placed him in quite the precarious position. Not that he was entirely complaining, but considering the situation it was more awkward than good for him.

If not for carefully practiced calm, he might be hypervenhilating. He took a deep breath to calm himself, but that proved to be a terrible idea. All he managed to inhale was his scent, which entirely clouded his senses. Get it together, Remus. He bit his lip, unconsciously holding his breath now with Sirius so close. Merlin, how was he going to make it through the whole concert without going completely mental? Again, with that carefully practiced facade of serenity, but would he manage to pull off pretending there wasn't something on his mind? Maybe...maybe not.

"Is she gone," he asked softly, completely unmoving, not meeting his gaze, not yet, lest he give too much away.

Just why Sybill Trelawney panicked Sirius so is hard to say - he had gotten the idea somewhere and it had taken hold in his fertile overactive brain that she had a thing for Remus, and he was protecting his friend from her - or somehow that is how he perceived it. The truth of the matter was a bit different, but Sirius was in no position to accept that truth yet. He watched the confused redhead as she lumbered out of sight, sighing in relief, his breath warm against Remus' neck, unwilling to move, or to disentangle himself from him quite yet.

"Mmhmm," he murmured, "maybe she'll fall into the Loch, her and her bloody crystal ball." His body was sending him all the wrong signals and his brain was starting to tell him that perhaps he should move away - but he wasn't listening, not at the moment.

There were too many things going on in his head right now, even for Remus. There never was a doubt in his mind, not since he had realized just how he felt about Sirius, but there was the simple fact he had formed in his mind that Sirius couldn't feel the same for him. But that didn't stop him from wondering, that being the case and if Sybill was gone, why were they still so close? He shivered slightly, feeling Sirius' breath against his neck and for a moment he considered the ulterior: what if he was wrong?

Despite how comfortable he felt there, so close to Sirius, he carefully ducked away, stepping back away from him. He tried his best not to let his emotions get the best of him, but if he didn't move now he might let something slip better kept to himself. "Wouldn't that be something," he said absently, suddenly aware they were next. Chocolate was the last thing on his mind now.

"I...I'm not very hungry now," he sighed, stepping from the line. "You go ahead, I'll get something later." Getting through Lochfest this way wasn't going to be easy...he didn't even want to think of the coming school year.

Sirius felt a sour taste in his mouth when Remus pulled away from him in that way, and his face flushed as he cursed himself for being a major idiot, and pushing him away. What was wrong with him anyway? Frustrated, he ran his hand through his dark locks, licking his lips, trying to think, and quickly. But it was too late, things were now bolluxed up. He took a step after Remus' retreating form, then another, but before he could gain on him, he was beset by some giggling girls who surrounded him and began asking him silly questions about how he was. And he realized that he had to play the part, or someone might suspect the secret he was harboring. And if that someone was Remus, why he would simply die.

He answered their questions automatically, without much thought, and his eyes never left the retreating form of his friend, his heart sinking lower with each step.

If only Sirius knew that that wasn't the case. Remus stopped no more than a few feet away, rubbing his eyes with a heavy sigh. Had he done the right thing, pulling away? Was there something he was missing? He turned, looking back at where Sirius stood, now surrounded by a knot of young witches. That answered his questions easliy. There was nothing he was missing, no err in his choice. Sirius was caught up in girls like any normal boy, like their other mates and Remus was the oddball, as usual.

He swallowed at the uncomfortable knot in his throat, looking back at the boy he felt so strongly for, a hint of regret in his gaze. There was no one in the world he'd rather be with than Sirius, he just didn't know how to tell him so or if he even should.

He looked on, unable to move away but unable to go back.
