On the Bats
Wish I had better news for my first post, but this is what caught my eye today.

From Wondercon's DC Universe Panel

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=20246

"Cassandra Cain will not be a member of the Bat-family after “Battle for the Cowl,” Sattler said."

Which you can add to http://www.newsarama.com/comics/020925-DiDio.html

11. So there’s still a role for the second generation characters who took the role while their mentors were not in it?

DD: There will be an enormous role for them moving forward. There’s a big role for them now – Kyle is in Green Lantern Corps, so he’s never been marginalized; Wally and Connor, and even Cassandra Cain will be appearing throughout the year, and will be seen in roles where they really have a chance to shine.

Or be dragged through the mud, depending on how you approach it.

15. While I have a feeling this will be another non-confirmation, non-comment answer, still – what can be said about the upcoming Batgirl miniseries? You mentioned Cassandra Cain earlier...can we at least get an idea of who it is in the title role?

DD [laughs] Why do you think she wears a mask? She doesn’t want anyone to know who she is. Seriously, I don’t want to spoil any of the excitement that’s coming up in Battle for the Cowl or Oracle: The Cure that are both coming out, but I have to say that there are plenty of clues as to who the next Batgirl will be and what her mission statement will be in her series.

This week-end hurts my tummy and makes me lose my appetite.

All signs pointing to Batgirl!Babs... Ugh, no... do not want. :(

Tell me about it. Cassandra hanging up the cowl? I think that could pass/be undone.

Putting Babs back in the costume, though? I honestly think that'd be the end of Oracle. And I liked Oracle, while I never liked Batgirl!Babs.

do want! babs!batgirl deserves some post crisis stories for a start. Its a new age of storytelling the character hasn't benefitted from.

She's been Oracle for 20 years(so maybe 8 years in comic time), why get rid of that? She's separated herself from the Bat name, why put her there again? She's a grown woman, why call her 'girl'? It just seems ridiculous and pushes Cass out of the way, who's been a better Batgirl than Babs ever was.

Now if it's a look at the past, I can accept it though with what DC's been saying lately I'm not so sure it is.

I've honestly never been a Cass fan, but I still think she's better as Batgirl than Babs, and I like Babs way better as Oracle. This is just undoing 20+ years of good character development for no adequate reason.

The thing that disappoints me about this is that, if Babs is going to be Batgirl again, she's going from being practically unique in the DCU to being just another costume. And we have more than enough of them already. I don't mind them changing her if it's into something else interesting and unique, but this...

"Cassandra Cain will not be a member of the Bat-family after “Battle for the Cowl,” Sattler said."

*cries*

GOD DAMN IT! I actually wrote a letter to Ian Sattler, Dan Didio, and Paul Levitz with my thoughts on yaoi Cassandra Cain. Now I feel like I gotta write another one.

I sincerely hope they don't make her a villain again.

Of course she has to be a villain. Her parents were both evil, and as we all know, in the DCU, evil is genetic!

*sighs*... why couldn't DC just use All-Star or an Ultimate-like line to get everybody in their 'iconic' roles, instead of screwing over newer creations.

Some guy I know, Bruce I think, tried that, but his experience was so bad that it scared everyone else away from the All Star line.

Also, is that second scan from Suicide Squad? What comic/issue is it? I don't think I've ever read those early stories of Oracle, beyond a few scans on...*sob*

That was actually her first appearance beyond being a voice coming out of a computer, when her identity was revealed. #38 was the issue.

They have a Showcase Presents trade with the first 18 issues of SS that's been delayed. If they put 'em out at this rate, the relevant issues would be in volume three.

Honestly, the scanned page is the only appearance Oracle makes in #38. She's conspicuously absent in the next few issues, conspicuously because both Batman and Jim Gordon appear in #41 and Batman hangs around for the rest of that four-issue arc.

If you want to find Suicide Squad issues that feature Oracle, #48 and #49 would be my recommendation. Her first appearance since #38, and a two-parter that centers around her.

Have you registered? Have you joined?

If you answer YES to both of those questions, just click "Post" under Journal in the side-thing, and then choose "scans_daily" in the post to field.

Oh, this place baffled me at first, too. On the comm profile page, there's a link that's hidden-in-plain-sight in the sentences just above the usual "Add Friend"/"No I Hate You Forever" icon medley. It says 'To join this asylum, click here.'

Their old version of LJ software didn't seem to anticipate that some people[*cough*like me] just sort of have their eyes glaze over at the cookie-cutter text and start mouse-hovering over the shiny, candy-like icons...

Ewwwww no. I've never read Babra as batgirl firsthand, I wasn't even born then. Stop going back to the silver age DC. I like my modern Batgirl.

Does that mean in a few years time somebody will be trying to bring back the 90s? With the pouches and guns and all?

Not if I have anything to say about it. After that decade died I personally dismembered the corpse and buried all ten years separately, at different crossroads, in boxes of salt. Except for 1994. '94 I burned before suspending the ashes in a jar of holy water and mailing it to NASA with instructions that it be fired into space. '94 was my sixth grade year. I wanted to be SURE about '94.

If they want to revive THAT decade, my God they will have to WORK at it.

Seriously, did Cass accidentally run over Didio's dog or something? Guy just does not give her a break!

Batgirl Babs would be ick, I like Babs as Batgirl, but she's been Oracle for too long... becoming Batgirl again would be going backwards in her life, I'd prefer if she became a new superhero altogether. She could convince Dinah to ditch Ollie and become the Red Canary!
Or y'know... anything other than Batgirl.

Also, Cass and Steph reunited plz.
