He refused to do any more work for Marvel because they canceled X-Men: The Hidden Years when it was still making profit. He stated as much himself. He claimed he wanted nothing to do with a company illogical enough to cancel a book that made money. It's a bit of a weird move on his part because it's hardly the first time the comics industry canceled a book making money. In fact, when DC initiated Byrne's Superman revamp, they did just that, canceling one of the auxiliary Super-books that was turning a profit. I guess it's different when the cancellation personally affects you.
