Canadians flip Labour Day the bird.

Four scans from Incredible Hercules #134.

Balder-who's-actually-Malekith has recruited Hercules to pose as Thor to deal with Alflyse, the Queen of the Dark Elves of the Eastern Spires; apparently, she's been in charge since Malekith "died" back in the 1980s.  Herc and Kid Zeus make their way to her castle, and since she's stunningly beautiful, Herc decides to put the moves on her and find out if she has any evil designs (at least, that's his justification).  Alflyse invites "Thor" inside...

The final test is a test of character; a bunch of goons attack him and he has to not get distracted when she flashes some thigh.  Of course, he fails this one.  Alflyse:  "Eh, two out of three.  Close enough."

Really though, apart from the strength one none of these tests seem particularly calculated to root out Thor.  He never struck me as a master chess-player.  Of course, these guys clearly don't know much about Thor.

Anyhoo, Herc and Alflyse proceed to par-tay the night away, while Zeus heads to the castle library and flips through a big book of Thor stories.

Now that they're married, Alflyse wants to invade Asgard to put her new husband back on the throne.  Oops.

My MA studies required a relocation to Carleton University this fall, so this was my first comic-day in town.  Surprisingly, the Ottawa bus system was navigated without a hitch, and I snagged the store's last copy of iHerc.  Good times.

Gotta love the first test. They just drop a cartoon anvil on him.

Oh, it's better than that. The anvil? It comes from ACME.

Once Herc rules and fails at the same time!

Star Trek ref! Nerdlove!

"And I assure you my...hammer works just fine." That's Herc being subtle.

No Labor(Damn your U's to hell!) Day in Canada? I thought the Canucks were all socialist and therefore would be partying down? ;)

Aside from being in one of the best comics Marvel is producing, Hercules is far and away one of the hottest superheroes. Damn boy.

As much as I love Herc, I always feel a bit sorry for his "other" wife - you know, Hera's daughter who's been carrying a torch for him for millenia.

Also I hope Zeus stays like this for good - he's just too funny as a little kid.

I loved the layered Trek references. From the 3-D chess set to Herc's own version of the Kobayashi Maru.

The biggest difference between Thor and Hercules, IMHO, has been why they fight to protect the Earth in the modern world, when both are considered myths/legends/etc. Thor sees it as his sacred duty, as charged by Odin. Hercules sees it as a lot of fun.

Boy, when the real Thor finds out, he is going to be pissed.

On the other hand, he might not mind so much when he sees Alflyse.

I--I just--SO MUCH LOVE. Anvils, made by Acme! Herc watches Star Trek! Alflyse's fangirl face! Eeeeeee!! And kid!Zeus is still holding the title of Only Version of Zeus That Has Ever Made Me Look Forward To (Or Indeed Not Shy From) His Page Time. It's the prepubescence. Cuts down on the rape factor, and while normal!Zeus is that obnoxious prick who everyone listens to because he can beat them all up, kid!Zeus has that much less annoying quality of still *thinking* everyone should listen to him, without realizing that they only did that because he could beat them all up, which he can no longer do.

It's really incredible to me how Herc can run around having sex with practically every woman he meets and not make me like him any less. Usually, those characters (Hercules/Herakles usually included) strike me as skeevy and misogynist (plus, bonus rape! and by bonus, I mean malus), but Herc is just neither. I think it's because all the women are obviously, enthusiastically down with the "let's see if we can break the bedsprings/headboard/floor/bedrock" plan. The fact that the writing and art are capable of showing smart, powerful, confident women who unabashedly like sex (even casual sex! gasp!) without having the text frown at them for it makes the whole thing funny (and hot) instead of squick.

...It says something about the state of my expectations and writing tropes that "Look! Sex where the woman is obviously having just as much fun as the man and not one bit ashamed of it!" is kind of mindblowing. *sigh*

Herc clutching the blanket to his chest like he has some modesty to preserve is fantastic.

I can't help being a little skeeved that he slept with Alflyse under false pretenses, though.

[info]dustbunny105's comment certainly brings up an interesting point. There was a lot of discussion over whether Chameleon having sex with Michelle while disguised as Peter was rape. Does Herc having sex with Alflyse while disguised as and pretending to be Thor fall into the same category?
