Entry tags:char: cyborg/vic stone, char: flash/kid flash/wally west, char: robin/nightwing/dick grayson, char: robotman/cliff steele, creator: art baltazar, creator: franco, creator: george perez, creator: marv wolfman, group: teen titans, publisher: dc comics, title: teen titans, title: tiny titans

Why Robin's utility belt is like the TARDIS...
... a lot more fits in there than you'd think looking from the outside. Does that count for the trunks, too? Maybe Batman and Doctor Who have the same manufacturer for their stuff after all.
Another reason why I'm posting this scene from New Teen Titans #13 (1981) is the awesome African setting. Though I read NTT from the first issue on, this was the one that got me totally hooked back then.

Yesterday we saw the girls (especially Donna) having some fun action with the Titans of Myth on Paradise Island (while poor comatose Gar missed the whole party). In the meantime Robin, Kid Flash and Cyborg went off to Africa to meet Robotman and look for Steve Dayton, who had mysteriously disappeared.

Little Robins do belong on trees; makes them look even more sexy.

I always get a horror-comic feeling looking at that big Cliff panel... love the colors and image composition there.

"I'm the new 1981-style Super-Cyborg, coming with lasers, changeable parts, mini-freezer and a cup holder. 12 months of guarantee in case no super villain blows me up." :D

Anyway. Robotman leads them to a secret entranceway to a cave where Madame Rouge and General Zahl, the supposed masterminds behind Dayton's disappearance, are hiding. Entering the cave, they see:

Maybe we don't need muscles, but the utility belt sitting on a well-trained body is definitely a plus. :)

CYBORG QUESTIONS HIS COSTUME! Aaw... but I still like the Cyborg/Robin interaction here a lot.
Edit: I added the cover because [info]volksjager is right and its awesomeness must be shown. I hope it's still alright with the page count.

Oh, and due to cuteness here's Super-Cyborg 2.0!

The dimensionally transcendental belt bit is actually nicely mocked in the Citadel War when Robin is captured and the Gordanians looking through his (removed) utility belt comment on how inefficient it is to have only ONE weapon per capsule, and don't these Earthlings know ANYTHING about miniaturisation?

How could you not put the cover up ???? If there was one George Perez cover I would own this issue would be it. The Doom Patrol is just a mallined property at DC. Can't someone get it right ?

The cover is one of my faves, too, but I was hitting the page limit and I'm not sure if the cover counts. I added it and am prepared to take it down again if necessary.

I want that image as a poster at my wall.

I loved this issue. Hell, I loved the whole Perez/Wolfman run, right up to the end of the Terra arc, at which point I couldn't afford comics for a while (like now). Since I'd never read Doom Patrol, this was my first exposure to the characters, and it was a really good exposure. I liked Robotman right from the beginning.

I want Wolfman/Perez to take over the Titans comic again. The stories, the art, the "we are all family" atmosphere is hard to beat and I miss that. :/

That scene of Cliff hanging over the vines with the "No Trespassing" sign was also used in the Teen Titans cartoon. After that sign I can't help but hear the characters in the series's VA's voices.

If I was Robin, I would have said, "Nah, I didn't have room once I adjusted for the size of MY ENORMOUS PENIS."

But then, I suppose this is why the ACTUAL Robin routinely fucks the shit out of orange-skinned alien hotties and Amazons, whereas I am currently multitasking between posting on this comm and surfing for MILF porn.

Waitwaitwait - 'Paula Von Gunther's laboratory island'? As a Paula fan, I demand details.
Oh, and how the HELL would you fit a shield that size in a utility belt? Is it like one of those magic grow foam dinosaur thingies, where you just add water?

After that whole Titans of Myth disaster the Amazons celebrate by holding a fighting tournament, in which Kory participates. After the tournament's end Kory, Raven and Hippolyta are talking when they suddenly see an explosion on Paula's laboratory island; then the story switches over to this Africa scene.
Later it's shown that Gar (treated with the Purple Ray) went mad, turned into a giant sea monster and caused the explosion.
Pretty cool stuff, but I already hit the allowed pages count with the Africa part.

One of the countless bat-mysteries, I guess. xD
I also wonder if Alfred is responsible for putting little "R"s and bat symbols on all their stuff every evening.

They're probably put on at the manufacturers - which begs the question of how the hell Bruce Wayne manages to explain ordering 5000 little widgets with bat-logos all over them on a regular basis.

Or maybe crafting little bat-stickers is one of the working tasks for the prisoners at in the Gotham City jail. I wouldn't entrust my enemies with my weapons, but stickers should be fine.

What excuse would you give, though? 'This is for the purpose of official Bat-merchandising'? Perhaps, if one takes the theory that the Batman is officially a myth, he has achieved the status of, say, the Chupacabra legend, and Bruce Wayne purports to be a big fan of the concept.

I believe they do make the batarangs themselves. A relatively recent scene showed Bruce melting metal and casting it into batarang shapes. They also put trackers on their 'rangs so they can recover, refurbish, and reuse them later.

And there are scenes of Bruce in the cave, wearing welding goggles and sharpening a Batarang with a grindstone. I'd say he definitely makes them.

Experimental memory plastic; It's normally a small plastic pellet stored in the belt, but apply an electrical charge and it unfolds and "sets" in shield form. Another zap and it reverts to pellet form for easy stowing away.

Can I have my No-Prize please?
