Supergirl Annual #1

This is from Supergirl Annual #1, by Sterling Gates and Fernando Dagnino.

First off, Lucy Lane is alive. She absorbs the life essence of some guy, killing him, and gets reborn or something.

We see her growing up, and how she was jealous that her father always gave Lois more attention. We don't see any mention of her relationship with Ron Troupe, or their child, which is disappointing.

Six weeks after Sam Lane gets apparently killed, she enlists in the army.

She gets injured when the Amazons attack, but Codename: Assassin, under the orders of Sam Lane, saves her.

That is irrelevant, Lois has lead a priviliged life and has never really experienced failure. She has got everything she has ever wanted. That has to inform how the character behaves. (and you can still get everything and complain you don't have more)

I'm not seeing it; we know she has daddy issues of her own.

Compared to whom, exactly? How are we defining failure? She certainly hasn't had everything she ever wanted. For example, she wanted her father's love, which she felt she never really received. She wanted a nice normal relationship with a guy she liked, but ending up falling in love with the world's foremost hero. She frequently doesn't receive what she wants, but she adapts and moves on with life.

I think that one could argue that Lois received more attention than Lucy from their father, though the attention was usually negative. I guess it also says a lot about Lucy's character* that she envies the negative attention received by Lois.

*Though I refuse to take this story as a good example of Lucy's behavior, since it contradicts pretty much everything I thought I knew about the character.

I don't understand how this is an anti-anything sentiment. How does this make her need a kick in the ass? 'Cause she needs to be less...privileged?

no, she needs to kicked in the ass because she doesn't realise she has that privilige.
