Seriously. Plus, the general public having a singular opinion, and being uniformly swayed by single events, is a trope that needs to fucking die, in ALL fiction.

on the plus side the "how can anyone trust him" thing is said by one guy in Lane's pocket. THe rest is various reports just deaking with the destruction that happened.

In a few months Mon-El is going to be wearing the big S so I guess it'll die down.

The story is still playing on the dramatic tension of expecting readers to believe that the general public could be so easily swayed into believing that Superman is a menace.

And the problem with that is that Superman is the closest thing that the DC Universe has to a living, breathing Jesus Christ meets Buddha meets Gandhi, in terms of how much EVERYONE loves him and trusts him.

For fuck's sake, you could broadcast video of Superman hugging Osama bin Laden, and even if the video was certified authentic, half of America would probably be in denial about it, because Superman has literally saved the entire planet more times than anyone can count (hell, even LUTHOR would be convinced that it was a fake, even as he used it to try and destroy Superman's reputation).

Yeah, I guess it's that time of the year again when DC rolls this storyline out.

Like clockwork. Aren't they bored with it by now? I know I am.

Because heroes aren't interesting unless they're hated and feared! And alone and miserable!

Also bored.

But very happy that right after I thought "Oh geez, this again?" I scrolled down and saw that everyone else felt the same. Ah, S_D, it's never just you.

Guessing this storyline is geared at the troubled teen who feels they are alone in the world? I know my daughter is constantly telling me how alone and maligned she is, while she sits in a room that looks like a Best Buy surplus store plus a stuffed animal nirvana and has dinner brought to her.

Have you tried indulging her just a little bit?

I was one of those stupid angsty teens who felt alone while growing up in a privileged environment. Because young people don't *real* problems. Then I tried to kill myself a couple of times when I was 17. Still have the scars on my wrist.

While I don't doubt you're right in that, that's the market DC is probably trying to tap, and while I think there are valid-points-of-view here, the attitude should be treated as a learning experience.

And at the end of the day, dragging Superman through this mud is just wrong. The character doesn't fit it.

Marvel is where the stupid ungrateful flatscans live. Not DC.

Have tried induljing, fighting against it, and everything else for several years. I just hope to make it without a heart attack. She spends so much time, effort, and pain trying to be something she never can be and doesn't need to be.

But I'm not that old. It's part of growing up - finding out who you are.

Speaking of that, you'd think Supes would know by now that he should ignore these nutjobs =)

This is Sam Lane (aka James Robinson's) master plan? To have everyone hate Superman - again. The same plan Luthor came up with in Loeb's S/B: Public Enemies and upteenth times before that? I hate when writers have to make everyone in the DCU so fickle that they always turn on the greatest hero in the universe in a second. I also hate how they've turned Sam Lane who was always a hard-ass but never a b*stard into an even more one-dimensional Snidely Whiplash villain than Zod. So they kill Lois's sister (a character who goes back to the 50s) and make her father a super-villain, the next Wade Eiling. How lame. Is this the kind of stuff we have to look forward in Didio's "Year of Superman" next year.

And once again I have to say that Allura's insta-hatred and distrust of Earth is looking to be the right one. I wonder if Supergirl will realize this? Or Kal?

What I think (is probably wrong)
Lois sides with her father and urges Superman to see that kryptonians are too dangerous. This is foreshadowed by Lucy's death and mirabi's cosplaying Supergirl taking down Mon-El on national TV. Lois totally buys it.

Superman who already has sided with Lois once despite the fact he didn't agree with her about Kara finally takes a stand about Lois' bile. She'll see that as siding with Krypton.

Superman is trapped in the middle but must side with Alura because Earth turns against him. Supergirl stays with her mother and sides with Krypton after Lane's actions and Cat Grant's headlines.

We'll see Superman vs earth without compromising his character.

Not if she believes she is truly right and he is wrong and does it for the right reasons.

Because he's the hero GothamMetropolis deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Dark KnightMan of Steel.
