So it's six months after Loebimatum, New York has been rebuilt, and Peter is now working at a fast food joint.

There's a couple of big stuff in the issue (someone moves in with Peter, but I won't tell you who), and...

No, Aunt May's not walking in on the hanky panky, she's calling from downstairs.

And later...

*sighs* It really annoys me when writers do this--to give credibility to the new Mary Sue villain/hero (in case you don't recognize him, this is Ultimate Mysterio), they have him take out the preexisting old one to make him look 'badass'. Especially when the preexisting villain is far more interesting than the new one. Bendis has done this a number of times in the past, with the Hood and Sentry sticking out in my memory the most.

I can only hope that this is a red herring on Bendis's part. He told me on his messageboard that the Kingpin was one of his favorite characters to write, and IMO, he's definitely one of the characters that Bendis writes best. Maybe this will be a callback to his Daredevil run where gangster Sammy Silke orchestrated a Caesar-style coup on him and left Kingpin to die in a puddle of his blood. Kingpin later came back and crushed Silke's head like a watermelon.

As for boycotts. If the issue is 'Peter isn't with MJ, so I'm going to boycott this series until they're back together again' then that does seem kind of silly. i.e. IF that's the reason, and nothing actually to do with the individual stories themselves, as to whether they're well written or not, then yeah I do believe that speaks volumes of the mentality of the person who says that. Because the comic is about Spiderman, everybody else is a supporting character, and MJ shouldn't be essential to whether or not the character can continue. She certainly wasn't in the 80es, or the 70es, or the 60es. And if Ultimate Spiderman were to suddenly suffer from the same kind of backlash, regardless of the quality of the stories themselves, then that would seem to me at least, to be a sad indictment on the values of some readers. If it isn't actually about the entertainment value of the stories but a judgement over what fictional character he needs to be hooked up with.

Or to turn this on it's head, I really don't care for the character of Sharon Carter in Captain America, and miss the hell out of Diamondback. But that doesn't stop me from really enjoying Ed Brubaker's expertly told tales. I certainly didn't feel like boycotting the title because I didn't like one of the female leads..And you know what? If Steve did come back and got married to Sharon, and they found a way to make the storylines still interesting after that, (Like they have with for talking's sake Superman-I like the marriage in that comic..) I'd certainly still read it.

Or maybe a better exemple. Bruce Banner. I liked the character of Betty Ross (particularly in Pads run)And genuinely believe she was the best match up for the lead character. But I still kept reading for many years after she was killed, and certainly didn't boycott the title, or say the character had been ruined forevermore. And I most certainly wouldn't have tried to make anyone feel ashamed for believing the contrary.

And I don't know why you're bringing prices into it, because that's another discussion altogether. If someone doen'nt feel they get enough entertainment value out of a comic book, for the money they've spent on it, then they should vote with their wallet. Be it Marvel DC, or any other comics company. I really don't have any issue with that whatsoever. As that's exactly what people should do. So I don't see any relevant issue there at all. That would be the same of any media.

Anyway, I hope I've managed to explain my points here, because I'm pretty much tired of arguing about this, and have already spend more time on this subject than it deserved, (regretting even mentioning it now,) So I'm off to do something more worthwhile. Because like I said, they are just comic books. If they're not about bringing a little bit of fun into our life, then I think people are misunderstanding the point of them. They'res much more important issues in the world to get riled up about.
