Everyone needs all-knowing Superman to teach them A LESSON once in a while

From my first/only post on s_d 1.0:

Sorry, Mr. Barger-- but it's not POLITE to eat in front of company!

ETA: Sorry, Photobucket retroactively changed the monthly bandwidth from 25 to 10 GB, cutting me off. Here's a TinyPic copy:

I want to think it's a yam. Mr. Barger has a secret yam allergy.

And/or Superman really likes yams.

The funny thing is, you're half right. It's a bomb... which Superman eats, and it explodes in his stomach, IIRC. He's even got this goofy "mm, tasty" look on his face. Just like Ma's home cookin' apparently.

Get out.

Superman eats it?

That's so crazy to me.

I think he did that several times. There's also a story from the seventies where, after all the kryptonite in the world has become harmless, a criminal who hasn't heard tries using kryptonite to stop Superman and he eats it in front of the criminal, saying "not bad, could use a little salt."

In the 1950s ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN show, George Reeves grabs some explosive serum and drinks it to protect everyone. After it explodes in his stomach, he's not hurt but he does look unhappy and maybe dyspeptic. Later, when he finds another sample of the explosive, Reeves mumbles "Oh no, not again," and orders everyone out of the room rather than get another episode of heartburn.

Doesn't look like a yam to me. Looks more like some sort of pastry.

It doesn't seem likely that a businessman would be at his desk with a cup of coffee and a yam first thing in the morning. (But then, we've all seen the inexplicable in comics.)
