In response to the Aunt May porn that was posted a while ago, let's see what May's packing in her luggage.

I seem to recall reading this scene in a trade I got from the library some time ago. It's just as great as I remember! This Aunt May is awesome. So damn awesome. Although the blond airport security guard's face looks a little bit off, somehow... Meh. I miss this Aunt May!

She can be close... but like Jarvis she could not have held off the Masters of Evil with a shotgun.

Poisoned? Naaaah, not her style.
Drugged? More likely.
Mixed with Ex-Lax? Hell yeah.

Ambien, actually...

THIS is an Aunt May to replace the one whose heart was "trying to give out" for decades.

Yeah, this is from the JMS/Romita run, so it's in trades. There's a new Ultimate Collection out now that includes this issue.

I'm thinking of buying it. If my only interest in Spider-Man is really because of MJ and the Mays, is there enough of them in there to be worth my cash?

There's a lot of strong May writing in the trade (it covers May finding out Peter is Spider-Man). At the time JMS inherited the book Peter and MJ were separated so MJ is only present for the second half of the trade, but I think JMS always wrote her well. Felicia doesn't appear. JMS's plotlines could be iffy (bleh Spider-Totem, bleh) but his characterization of Peter, Mj, and May was top-notch. If you're unsure, I recommend flipping through a copy if your LCS or bookstore has it to see if it's right for you, since it isn't a cheap trade.

And the Ultimate Collection collects the first 15 issues of his run, I should say.

Oh, yeah, there's plenty. Back issues of Spider-Girl are still being put out in digests (10 and counting), all of Amazing Spider-Girl is now out, and thankfully it's still being produced slowly online and in Spider-Man Family, and all of JMS' run is in trades, going up to around .. 10? 11? of them? Not sure because I'm a little behind and the numbering gets thrown off by The Other (all Spidey titles crossover) and then Civil War/Back in Black, which led into One More Day. Or you could wait for more Ultimate JMS trades to come out. Don't get them mixed up with Ultimate Spider-Man, which is an entirely different universe (with an awesome May and pretty good MJ).

Going back farther into the past, there's good MJ and Felicia, but I have no idea what's in print and what's not, sorry. Try and track down Roger Stern's run -- despite my deep, deep ARGH over what he's doing now, it's good stuff.

Wait, they got rid of this Aunt May?

I was just getting used to her. And yes, she should be Peter's Alfred (plus) in a lot of ways, and this is a great scene.

OMD wiped her knowledge of Peter being Spider-Man. So moments like this are now forgotten.

Well, it doesn't seem to have any purpose, in the same way as DC's Crises. If you keep making references to it, what was the point in the first place? The idea is an excuse to reboot, not to make the continuity even more complicated and confusing, I would think. When DC made the COIE actually part of continuity, they nullified its purpose. Here, they know very well that they won't be able for long to keep all the development in the Spiderverse undone, and keep making winks at it. In both cases, they know that well enough should have been left alone and they don't have the guts to really make the jump. So why bother? OMD didn't win Spidey any new fans, and in fact made a lot of people lose sympathy for Peter.

Nobody ever seems to think about that when they "revive" a particular version of a character, do they? Then again, comics is more about short-term boosts than long-term planning these days.
