Time for some obscure manga! The Five Star Stories!
I love obscure comics and manga mostly because they are most of time worth the effort to checks out because it's things I've never seen before, and sometimes they are so much better then what's well known. This is one of those but I warn you, your mileage will most likely very.

The five star stories are very unique in the realm of manga, mostly stemming from the fact that it's more of an experience and plots are also given away ahead of time, this story if the first part and it takes place at the end of the series. These scans are taken from the us release which splits each volume into three parts of at least 70 pages a piece. It my not be everyones thing but I just thought sharing would get more people to look it up.

Oh man! Somebody actually managed to translate this in english? I hope he was paid twice the money he get for translating an average manga.
Because I'm sure he cried when he found out he had to translate the end of each japanese volume with the calendar and all the comments from the writer.

I really like Nagano's art and want to read it (I have purchased half the series) but never found the time get pass the 2 first volumes. I mean, it's a manga you better sit down, read slowly and make sure you understand everything if you don't want to be lost.

I am in love with this manga and I never got passed the first volume. I was interested in it for a long time, and I finally bought the first translated volume off Amazon this past spring for my birthday. Completely confusing, but at the same time completely moving. The only bummer is knowing all the major plot stuff in advance.

But you're right, it's really unique in that it's about the experience rather than the shocking plot developments. I hope to be able to buy the rest of the story in the future, but, it's one long-ass series. But I guess that's what happens when you've got a story that's been running since 1986, and has yet to be concluded.

Now I wanna go on a online shopping spree...

His head is so tiny, but his shoulders are so big.

Well, Nagano LURVES his shoulderpads (nearly as much as tigh high boots). The proportions... Well, he whas into fashion design student before drawing comics or being in the animation biz.

He is also the only person having worked on Gundam known to have been crossdressing as Sailor Moon characters. Your mileage may wary.

Ah, FSSS. Anyone who have the appreciation for giant robots or Gundam have probably heard about this. If not only for the fact that Nagano contributed many iconic Gundam universe mechanical designs or that he worked on pretty much everything on L-Gaim.

But mainly simply because its gorgeous as heck. Ladius Sopp is also the most womanly male lead ever.

The storytelling may be because of its universe-building nature (it whas originally going to tie into the Heavy Metal Armor L-Gaim continuty but due to friction with Yoshiyuki Tomino and stuff in general it became its own beast). It's more like a chronicle of the different royal houses of the Joker System with different little vignettes into what went on during a specific moment than a real narrative.

Wow. So Five Star Stories is considered obscure, now? Really?

In the late 80s/early 90s it was practically inescapable for anime/manga fans. Hell, the only time that New Type magazine didn't feature Gundam, it usually featured Five Star Stories, since the manga has been running in that magazine for 23 years, now.
