Lobster-Man Loves Mary Jane
More from Straczynski and Romita Jr.'s run on Amazing Spider-Man. This time dealing with Mary Jane's moviemaking adventures in L.A. Scans from ASM v. 2 #43-45.

As we saw in my last post, Peter and MJ have been going through a rough patch their marriage. MJ has been spending most of her time working in Los Angeles, and Peter missed her return trip to NYC due to an adventure on the astral plane.

I rather liked this, but MJ's smile during the introductory bit of the 'Amazing Lobster Man' was very creepy. XD

It looks like someone used MS Paint to make her face from various parts. It's horrible!

You really can't rhreaten to kill someone dead without a creepy smile, espicially in such social situations.

This is the second time in a few days we've seen this smile on MJ O_O. The artist just hates her. Smiles can't go that wide! They just can't!

Now that she's alive due to the deal with the literal devil we can TOTALLY have more scenes of her being awesome, right?

Oh. No. Because 50% of her awesome came from her knowing Peter was Spider-Man, and she doesn't anymore. And is stuck in a SHOCKING relationship with JJJ's father. Played for sophomoric humor.

Hell, it would have to REACH to be sophomoric. It's played for grade-school humor. Ew icky old people.

yea. sometimes, it's a matter of style and technique. Usually though that's more for prosthetic makeups

I like the guy's double take at Lobster-Man. He's pretty sure it's not a real superhero, but he lives in a world where there could totally be an Amazing Lobster Man here to save the day.

Okay, seriously, these people have to stop it with the smiling here.  They are all just marionettes.

Also, is that a bruise on Peter's right cheek?  If so, I like the touch.  If not, they need to lighten up on the shadow there.

Peter's hair looks so lush in this.

This story is one of the only trades in my local library, one of the first actual comics about Spider-man that I read I think. And as an introduction to comic-verse Spider-marriage, it still made my positive opinion of it rock solid. Even when they're separated they're such a good couple!

Normally her mouth freaks me out, but this time I laughed.

And laughed.

And laughed.

Until the paramedics came. They're such nice young men, in their clean white coats.

This might sound odd, but I quite like Brad/Lobster Man. It's so rare we get to meet a male co-worker of MJ's that isn't immediately turned into Potential Rival for Peter to Wangst About. Although you can see that Peter considers the notion, I don't get that feeling from the interaction in the dressing room. It's refreshing.

And yes, he seems a little bit slow, but I think it's cute.
