I think he means more in the sense of how they keep going "Oh look, it's mary jane, again. Maybe peter will get back together with her this time?! OH No wait, he didn't. Haha, fooled ya, suckers.

It seems to be happening too much after OMD to really be anything much other than almost - well attack is too strong a word - the powers that be throwing it repeatedly in the faces of the people who didn't like their idea to "improve" spider-man stories.

I mean honestly, they could have just as easily gotten rid of mary jane after the OMD and been done with it rather than the too often teases that again seem not to hold much more point than to tease and trick those fans that want it to be undone.
