Wherein Franklin Richards ****s Norman Osborn in the ***
or: no, we don't get an Iron Patriot/Venom versus the Fantastic Four bit.

Gargan and the agents of HAMMER now neutralized, Osborn is left alone in the forcefield, with the Fantastic Four.

Reed's all " Get the fuck out of my house, you shot bullets at my kids " and Norman's all " Sure, okay, but I'm THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT NOW, so I can do whatever I want to you now. "

To prove his point, he draws a handgun on Richards, because he apparently thinks that guns and the good doctor's superpowers work that way now...

WHEN SUDDENLY OUT OF NOWHERE DID NORMAN GOT SHOT

funny part? that gun was shown to be a popgun beforehand. ponderous, man.

also, Norman Osborn has just been wounded by a child.

atleast they didn't make him scream his fool head off.

" I'll come in the middle of the night! Over 9000 penises, Richards! 9000 of them! Raping your children! "

(seriously, that's how ridiculous he seems right there. Also, given that most of the targets of his rage are blond of hair, I expect he'll enjoy it A LOT.)

I do love, though, that Norm's immediate reaction after being shot is to go into an angry rant. It both makes him look ridiculous and kinda threatening, in that " oh shit, being shot in the arm doesn't seem to have deterred his jackassery, has it? "

also, fucking ponderous.

still, he packs up and leaves, taking his idiot symbiote henchman and useless mooks with him.

The second half is devoted to Reed wondering what lesson he should take away from all of this, including an ominous visit from what appears to be other Reeds in the multiverse offering their help.

ultimately, what does Doc Richards decide to do?

really hope he doesn't invent a new science this time 'round.

bonus: speaking of Fours Fantastic, let's take a look at Planetary's wonder-hoarders the Four. by this point, we've met the flaming hothead, seen the woman who's invisible via force fields, and alluded to the genius who stretches. time to met the fourth man, the one with the rock-hard skin and the coarse speech:

damn.

I totally admit, I laughed at the plastic toy shooting real bullets and the realization of what it had to be. Oooh, this is going to be fun.

So did anyone in the family realize that Franklin shooting a real bullet out of a toy gun means that his powers are probably coming back? Cause I'd find it weird if nobody noticed that considering there are some, you know, GENIUSES in the family. Looking at the scans again, I'd say Val probably knows considering how totally fine she looks with what just happened while everyone else is freaking out and scratching their heads.

Also, on the panel right after Norman has been shot and they are all staring at Franklin, Ben's face is HILARIOUS. He looks like a surprised puppy dog. XD

Honestly, does Osborn do anything but angry rant and toss around threats? Because throughout this whole Dark Reign bullshit that's all I've pretty much seen him do.

I'm slightly disappointed we didn't get a "if you hurt or try to hurt the kids we'll kill you" speech from the adults. Then again, it's not like Osborn's particularly special, considering they go against Doctor Doom and company every other week.

Slightly applicable quote: "The evil like power, power over people, and they want to see you in fear. They want you to know you're going to die. So they'll talk. ...A good man will kill you with hardly a word."

I did really like this mini-series, but did anyone else find the whole, "the only universes in which bad things didn't happen are the ones in which I, one single WASPy dude (albeit a super-smart one) ran everything myself," aspect kind of obnoxious? This criticism is of course recanted if the next storyarc is about Reed trying to fix things and it totally not working because one person can't do it all, which it probably will be.

Nevermind what Reed's planning. That's OBVIOUSLY going to fail.

What NORMAN should be doing is instead of p.o.ing Franklin, he should be getting on FRANKLIN's good side. Because if Franklin's powers are coming back...at least Onslaught/Xavier had THAT much good sense...

You know who would be the perfect teacher for a repowered Franklin? Not Agatha Harkness. Not Professor Xavier.

UATU. His race operates on a high Guardian-level power level, and if Franklin misuses his powers, it could potentially even threaten Watchers. He IS allowed to act against dangers against his OWN people. (Anybody remember the old Tales of the Watcher series that used to run in the back of Tales of Suspense? The time some lizardoid aliens threatened a planet, smug in the fact that the Watcher wouldn't do anything---only to find they were attacking the Watchers' home planet? What happened to them---isn't pretty.)

Uatu's creed of noninterference is exactly what you want to teach a near-omnipotent kid, too.

I just assumed Valeria had built him an actual gun that looked like a toy gun, I didn't even consider Franklin's powers returning.

Either way, this was a pretty great miniseries (if simply for the introduction of monocle wearing Lord Benjamin, Renaissance Man) and I'm really looking forward to Hickman's run on the regular title.

Since the toy gun is still a toy gun, pretty sure it's Franklin's powers. And I dunno about the rest of you, but if that was my kid he'd get a lecture on why what he did was right, a hug, and the biggest damn cookie I could make. I didn't see Osborn waving around any warrants, he threatened the kids, and he's on private property. Only bad thing about it is that he didn't shoot the bastard in the head.

Good show, Marvel. Good show. I put this on my pull list, because I was convinced Franklin & Valeria playing Home Alone with Osborn combined with Reed's Quantum Cosplay Computer would be a fun romp. I never expected you to have a child shoot someone. Well played. Well played, indeed. You fooled me but good.

Never again. Never fucking again. As much as it pains me to say this, Fantastic Four is on my Do Not Read this from now on.

If I'm writing this, Reed Richards will indeed fix everything. He goes back in time and make sure that Steve Rogers and Tony Stark gets married, and Civil War disappears like the Age of Apocalypse.

Personally, my favorite Franklin moments in the past have been ones where villains actually got the better of the FF and then discovered that when threatening kindergarteners, one should first make sure that they're not kindergarteners with Galactus-level psychic powers. As Blastaar found out much to his dismay. And Mephisto.

Why is anyone in the Marvel Universe shocked, SHOCKED that Franklin might still have powers? My first reaction when I heard that he was depowered was YAH RITE He could still kill us all. It's like a more benevolent Wanda. Don't turn your back on the people who can warp reality on a whim.

Okay late to the thread but I have to point out bad parenting here...
Sue, telling Franklin it's wrong to hurt someone for any reason after you've just shoved them into a wall is bad form. Raise by example not words.

Okay I'm going back to my loving the F4 now and forget that little bit.
