New Avengers #54

For those who were worried about Voodoo's dialogue last ish, he speaks more normally here.

Voodoo, Strange, and Hellstrom perform an exorcism on the Hood.

Clint and Bobbi see Norman's interview.

I eagerly await the day that the heroes of the Marvel Universe discover Youtube and thus stop relying on breaking into newsrooms to be heard.

Eh.. If Clint bust on to Youtube with clear evidence that Norman's EVVVVIIIIIIILLLLL, all he'd probably get is several thousand idiot Marvel Universe residents telling him 'sht teh fukc up u retrd, Osbrn is aweesom', based on some of the hard hitting comments on there.

You mean there's no more The Hood? And... what about the other books? Is he Loki's bit - er, servant now?

What's worse is, it is exactly the same scene - down to the dialogue as in the early days of New Avengers. The differencewas that it was Yelena Belova in the bed, Skrulls offering to make her the new Super-Adaptoid.

Anyway. Bet you nothing at all changes for Hood and it's like the arc never happened.

It makes up for a bit of the dumbfuckery in the past that he starts this scene boo-hooing quietly to his sorry Hoodless self. Somehow I can't see Bendis allowing his pet goon stay down long though. I will just have to enjoy it while it lasts.
Poor, poor Parker.

Hey, remember when Clint Barton was the, "No killing ever!" character? When he had years of angst over acidentally killing Egghead? When he was made at his wife for letting the guy who brainwashed and raped her fall to his death?

God damn you Marvel.

To be absolutely fair, that was twenty years ago.

One of the things that interests me about the Quesada-era Marvel is the unspoken, quiet relaxation of the "no killing ever" rule. It was a major fixture of the Shooter years, DeFalco perpetuated it, and Harras seemed to as well.

In Quesada's Marvel, though, killing seems to be viewed quite differently. Luke was breaking HYDRA agents' necks in Iron Fist, Clint blows away Skrulls without really thinking about it or facing censure, Cyclops mercy-killed that one dude in Morrison's run, Nick Fury is shooting a lot of former SHIELD agents...

That was really about him being an Avenger, and following the rules, because without rules the guy was always kind of lost. Plus he's just sort of nice, down at the core.

But now the team doesn't have rules...and he's had a bad few years (dead wife, jail, remembers getting jacked into assorted alternate realities, died himself a few times, etc.). And then, well, the Skrulls. I think it's a reasonable progression; now that he's crossed that line and found out that he's comfortable with it when necessary, why not take out the biggest SOBs on the planet?

They shouldn't be plotting to kill Norman. Unfortunately, board rules prohibit me from saying who they should be plotting to kill.

Even though I would cheerfully say it to his face.

Clint: We're going to have to kill him.

Mockingbird: But... Murder is bad! Very bad! Very very bad!

Clint: You mean like the time you let the Phantom Rider fall to his death for brainwashing you into loving him and maybe/maybe not raping you? (The WCA issues made it seem the Phantom Rider wanted to marry you before having brainwash!sex with you.)

Mockingbird: I am dumbstruck by my actions being turned around on me like this.

(Another Avengers history question: Hawkeye didn't want the Avengers to execute the Supreme Intelligence for killing billions of Kree at the end of Operation Galactic Storm. Right?)

I knew Bendis wouldn't throw away his pet little Hood. What disturbs me is how Bendis appears to be trying to portray the Hood as a sympathetic character. As far as I'm concerned, after how Bendis depicted him as treating Greer, I hope Clint puts an arrow through Parker's eye posthaste.

I really think that Dark Reign is going to end with like 15 people who all independently decided they need to kill Norman showing up at his base of operations and then they're all like "Oh, hey, wow, we should have really got in touch about this. Let's do it together."

Seriously, I really like Osbourne has made himself like EVERY CHARACTERS arch enemy in a completely organic way. Everyone hates him. Soooo many people deserve the chance to bring him down. Any and all will be satisfying.

Who will it be? Spider-man? Songbird? Iron Man? Nick Fury? Ms. Marvel? The booted Initiative members? Cyclops? Hawkeye? Namor? DOOOOOM? Hell, even Deadpool has a reason to want to kill him and I'd totally buy it if it played out in almost any combination of the above.

Ya know, if Doom, Hood or Loki had half a brain, they'd be backing Norman 110%.

With him in charge, he can basically stifle any hero who comes their way. He can prop them back up after a defeat, smack the heroes down for it and basically allow them to do whatever suits their mood.

And still they make with the back stabby. Sigh...
