Damian looks way too old there...and I actually don't think he'd ask permission to maim, even when being glib. Though I do like that he doesn't bother to stick around afterward.

I want her gloves and trousers, they're lovely little call backs. She's written brilliantly here. Even though this is the issue of the inconsistant!costume for Damian.

I like both, but for different reasons. I like Nightmarish Harley for a game like that but Harley in general is adorable and should remain as such.

She is well suited to the game itself but the costume has too much happening for a Harley costume. Shes still psychotically lovable in it though :D

It has Hamill as the Joker and Harley. If I weren't a wimp, I'd buy it.

OH yes, he is. I bought a poster from him -- the Mini Gothamites one. He accidentally forgot which one I ordered, so shipped me two extra posters. Now everyone that comes over to our house is like "Where did you get those??!! I want them!"

Soooo much love for Nguyen.

Harley, don't ever not be awesome.

I see Dick's trying REAAAAAAL hard to do the who shadowy grim-dark thing there. He's strategically angling himself to look the most shadowly as he can. XD

Stealth!Damian is amusing, and it's nice to see that he's asking permission instead of immediately maiming people. There is hope for the little brat yet.

I love this art too, Nguyen is a treasure.

Dick's being kind of a jerk here, isn't he? I mean, I know Harley has a bad history and all that, but she's CLEAN. She's sane now, so who cares where she lives?
And Damien looks way too much like Tim - or should I say, the way Tim used to be - here. He's a KID - he's like eight or nine. Now, I know some pre-teens who are tall for their age, but nothing like the Bad Seed here - he's being drawn as a teenager. Maybe this was drawn after the costume had been changed, but before the artist had been informed that the guy wearing it also had?

Dick's trying to hard to emulate Bruce in his mannerisms.

But really, is telling ANYONE to get the hell out of Gotham bad advice? Especially someone like Harley -- the farther she is from Gotham, the less likely she is to slip into recidivism, I'd imagine.

Depends on how you see Gotham, really. If you see it as hell in the form of a city, as it's sometimes portrayed, then yeah, I guess you can't very well say that moving away from it would be a bad career move. But really, my impression of Gotham is that it's not THAT bad - crime-ridden, yes; terrorized by maniacs, yes, but otherwise, just a regular city in the DCU. Anyway, it's Harley's home - sure, she's closer to the Joker this way, but judging from her more recent meetings with him, she's more or less over him. More or less. I'm sure she'll have a relapse at some point. But anyway, the Joker may be Gotham-centric, but he's the JOKER - if he really wants to find you, it won't make any difference if you live in Antarctica; that dude's still gonna find you. Let Harley live where she wants, I say.

Well, sure. But saying she'd be smart to get out of Gotham, not exactly wrong.

Hell if it was Bruce it probably would have just been "Get out of my city!"

Actually, I think Bruce has a fair amount of respect for Harley these days - the last time they met, he was fairly civil towards her. I think he appreciates it when someone is genuinely trying to reform, and believes in giving them a chance to do so. My guess is that, as you said, this is Dick trying too hard - he's going 'right, now that I'm Batman, I've got to start establishing myself. Keep up the reputation, that sort of thing - do what he'd do. What first? Uh... terrorize ex-criminals! Yeah, that's the ticket! Spooky voice, yank 'em off the street, 'stay on the straight and narrow - OR ELSE!' Yeah, that should work. Come, psycho demon-boy! We're off to scare the citizenry!'

Anyone who cares about her health. He's not telling Harley to 'get out of my town', he's telling her 'stop waving around large sums of quasi-legally aquired cash in the last place the guy you took it from knows you lived'.

Well, fine, but then why didn't he just SAY that, instead of being all spooky and cryptic? I know, I know - Batman, but still. Even Batman can be direct and to the point on occasion.

He DID. That's what's going on in the first two panels. He doesn't say 'I see you've come into some money, now use it to get out of my town', he says 'I know you stole that money from a psychopath, staying here would be stupid, use the money to go somewhere else'.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]psychop_rex
2009-06-19 08:54 pm UTC (link)
Fine, point taken, but he should have simply said 'stop waving around great big gobs of dubious cash, woman. Are you mental?' THAT'S his business; if it causes trouble for her, then it causes trouble for him. What's NOT his business is where she hangs her hat - as long as she stays out of trouble, that's not an issue - and since the 'staying out of trouble' bit is covered by the warning not to wave around her ill-gotten gains, the 'getting out of town' part isn't necessary.

'Don't wave huge gobs of money around in Gotham' is good advice for everyone who isn't being followed by a dozen bodyguards.

If, however, they have huge gobs of money to wave it around because they stole it from a psychopath, then 'get the hell out of Dodge while you have a chance' is much, much better advice.

Loving the way Harley is written here.

Also loving the way Damian is written in that book. Seriously, Damian haters, check this out. Dini's giving him facets.

I can hate multi-faceted characters just as much as I can hate non-faceted characters.

Facets just don't make me throw the book quite as hard.

Oh, I'm not saying the only hateable characters are without depth, but it's just... Dini's taking Damian and making a kid out of the caricature Morrison is sketching. I'm more interested in Dini's Damian, that's for sure, and I'm very much looking forward seeing more of Dini writing him.
