Greg Land at his most tolerable

Four scans from Uncanny X-Men #511; Land's first issue was okay by his standards, the next was really awful, this one is back to being mostly okay (again, by his standards).

The X-Men vs. Sisterhood brawl continues.  Land's art is terribly undynamic, but there's a rather enjoyable sequence here that has an enjoyably comic feel (feels a bit like a quick-cut TV sequence):

Elsewhere, the various X-Men deal with evil-spirit-of-Psylocke-in-Kwannon's-body, and they succeed in reviving the real Psylocke's mind to compete with the "murder spirit" within her mind:

And the end...

And, in a nice surprise, Terry Dodson drops in for the last two pages, to provide some genuinely good art.

Additionally, I'm under the impression that Fraction may not be all that good a writer after all. Between this UXM run - which would be boring and uninspired even without Land, and looks to be getting worse with these upcoming "Dark X-Men" - combined with his unengaging Iron Man and "Celebrity Big Brother With Superpowers", he hasn't impressed me much at all. If not for Iron Fist, he'd probably be one of the worst writers I can think of working at Marvel.

Hmmm, I kind of like Fraction as a writer... Except that they seem to pair him with the most god-awful artists imaginable. The writing is at least acceptable, the art is eye-gougingly bad.

Different strokes. Fraction got me to quit reading Uncanny. I can tolerate Land when balanced by a decent writer, but Fraction and Land together was a match made in hell for me. I'm not sure whether the dialogue during the scene was meant to be deliberately ironically awful or just awful, though. By this point I'm not sure I care. The sex obsession, horrible, clumsy dialogue and the general lack of understanding of 90% of the characters he's writing already put me off.
