Back before DMZ, Northlanders and Local, Brian Wood did some excellent character work on the final few issues of Generation X. I recall that the old scans_daily got a link from his blog when this was posted there and since it was requested and we seem to be having an unofficial Generation X week, here goes. From Generation X #71.
Jono is in the city with Monet and Jubilee and heads off on his own to a record store to browse the vinyl and, being the ladies man he is, someone catches his eye. He decides to approach her, but unfortunately his opening line doesn't go down too well:
They go to a coffee bar to chat, where Jono looks meaningfully at some coffee and pops the question: what's a deaf girl doing in a record store anyway. Rana explains that she was buying a present for her little sister's birthday and after leaving the coffee shop, the subject turns to Jono.
Rana gives Jono her address and asks him to write to her.
After Jubilee and Monet's car picks him up, Jono seems unhappy, despite meeting Rana and Monet calls him on it.
