Nerd vs. Nerd

Four scans from Mighty Avengers #25.

Because of the collapsing dimensional doors to Pym's lab, Hank needs a device that Bill Foster previously invented, which was left to Ben Grimm (?) in his will.  Hank rings up Reed and asks for it; Reed says no, because, given all the shit that's happened to Hank recently, he doesn't think Hank should be operating heavy machinery, so to speak, offering a litany of occasions on which this hasn't worked out.  Things go downhill from there.

Quicksilver and USAgent are off on an unrelated assignment for G.R.A.M.P.A while this is going down (continuing the deck of cards theme with their agents that started with Ace and One-Eyed Jacqui, it's a Chinese woman named "Ban-Luck" who has a heart-shaped cleavage window).

Most of the crew are down with attacking the Fantastic Four.

With Vision, all you have to do is flash some of that machinery.

Cho is later seen walking around whistling happily, though he claims it's "nothing". Cassie adds yet another admirer.

"It's on, bitch."
Oh. My. God..... O.O
Dickish but hella entertaining. But really shouldn't Ben decide?

One gets the impression here that Reed would just over-rule Ben because he was obviously not smart enough to look after a piece of tech, even if it was left to him by an old friend.

U know, this might sound harsh and Reed is a character I don't usually go "He'd never do so and so!" for cus I think he's a bit of a dick, but...
That's not how I see Reed. At all.
Reed respects boundries. He respects his friends. If it belongs to Ben, he would let Ben decide. He would go on and on endlessly though about what it all means and why Ben must decide one way or the other but I think he'd respect Bens choice. Perhaps a bit begrudgedly. And Sue would point out that he's being rude. And Ben would respect and trust Reeds intellect and do as Reed says.
It's probably a moot point though since he'd probably have given it to Reed previously anyway.

I agree wholeheartedly, my comment was meant in a sarcastic tone based on THIS Reed, who seems completely unable to see why he anyone feels he has committed a social faux pas, the "For what?" there was the head-desk moment for me.

He knows, he just doesn't care. Look at his face when he says "For what". That's not a "what are you talking about," it's a "shove that, I'm in the right."

Oh I know what u meant. I meant in a "what I'm gonna say might be harsh towards the author"-way. But it didn't turn out that harsh anyway so I could have left that part out. I'm pretty sure last time I commented on Mighty Avengers Slott actually popped up and answered me, haha, so I wanted to make sure I didn't say anything that could be read as unnecessarily mean and stuff.

And while Reed is a person who might not get all the social norms, like it's said below this instance does not seem like one of them "genuingly oblivious moments".

And when I say "below me" I clearly mean the bluefall-comment directly above, lol.

Weeell... I don't think there's alot of ppl around who think that was a very Reed-thing to do in the first place. Also times of war, event driven events and all that.

Although it just dawned on me it could be interesting to explore Reeds take on a body after the person is dead. He'd probably have no major issues scientifically examining it. Killing the person in the first place to do that is a big no. Using any discoveriesto make a weapon? I think he'd do that. Cloning a friend? Hmmm... I think when a creatures life is concerned Reed has some boundries, so I don't think he'd be making that messed up Clor thing. Either it's a robot following orders or it's a creature with a will of its own. It would have to be sentient and well functioning, and with a mind and emotions of its own. If that is fulfilled, then yea maybe in a crisis, he'd clone a powerful dead friend. But I doubt he'd dress that person as the decieced one and pretend it's the same person (which would be a disgrace to the memory of the dead person). It's a new person, only with all the advantages and powers the last one had, and this can be used in the fight.

Wow this thread has me pondering Reed like never before...
