Stay classy Marvel
I looked back a bit and I haven't seen this posted but I just joined so I might be mistaken in which case forgive the repeat.

So when I looked through Uncanny X-men on a recent bout of masochism my righteous feminism sense were all ready pinging and on the last page of Fantastic Force they went wild. (There's some alternate timelines involved before people go 'where did this come from' on me.)

Photobucket

Edited because I don't want the focus to be on my comments on comics and on the panel itself.

Yeah, if you don't know the characters' histories, it probably has less impact. It's particularly annoying because all three got stuck with 'female insanity' -- while Jean's first Dark Phoenix period was epic and non-gendered for the most part, her later cycles of life/insanity/death have mainly been All About Her Boyfriends, Polaris was daddy complex nutso, and Wanda of course had, quite literally a 'hysterical pregnancy', and then kept fucking with the world because she couldn't deal with not being a mommy.

Well, even the classic Dark Phoenix Saga still had that unpleasant "Jean is mindraped into fetish gear by the Hellfire Club" stuff, which I really can't see playing out the same way if it had been, say, Wolverine they were after.

Are we talking about Claremont?

Because while with 98% of comics, I'd totally agree with you, I rather suspect that Claremont in particular might actually have tried to do so, and possibly even have gotten away with it.

It's hard to say sometimes with Claremont. Proteus could reshape reality to his twisted whims, and he was a guy.

Proteus going crazy can be seen as Moria's fault, mixed with his own hatred of his father. Once he possessed his father, Proteus went even more crazy.
