The Bad Mother's Handbook
So the list was posted, people were pissed and so here I will show the real worst mother in comics. Ursa is loving compared to Brainiac 4.

From LOSH vol.4 #77

B5 is imprisoned and subjected to mind probing

She goes through his depressing life from being used by Colu since he was a toddler to being palmed off on RJ Brande before being shoved onto the legion. All the time bored. She gets back to the heart of Brainiac's issues, mummy.

1) She has a child solely as an experiment to see if she could feel for anything
2) the experiment failed and she abandoned him moments after birth
3) she was absent her son's whole life
4) When she returned she thought 'hey, I like killing people, will killing my son make me feel even better?'

That should have worked out far better than it seems to have done (judging by his 'last time he was happy' feeling). Hopefully he could have got people who cared for him.

Its more her attitude, he could have been fed to wild dogs for all she cared. She was completely unaware of her responsibility to him. She had no desire to see him in a decent home because it got in her way for sensual fulfillment. what came later was definitely the fault of the coluans he was under the care of but B4 was the start and Brainiac 5 wasn't right since.

Yerp. Mother of the Year right there. It's almost a stereotype of neglect or something. "Have baby to make myself feel better, oh wait, it's not working, don't want it now."

Sad.

I always like this version of B5 best for it though. He's definitely an ass, on occasion, but he mellowed through the years with prolonged contact and acceptance by the Legion, and it's like the social awkwardness and assholery had a direct cause rather than going with the stereotype of a smart person being emotionally stupid.

In this Brainy's case, he had abandonment issues, a very cold and even verbally abusive upbringing (I mean, come on, they were calling him a "twelfth-level freak" to his face before he could even walk), and otherwise was raised without much contact with anyone that loved him. His life wasn't, like, the classic abuse kinda hard-luck life story, but it was very cold and depressing, and made it so there was a lot of sense in him having difficulty processing and expressing emotions, to the point where he pretended they weren't there when they were.

It made him interesting.

Nah, she had the same cold, affectionless, near-abusive, "You're a freak, do work for us, freak," upbringing he later did. She knew what she was abandoning him to. She just didn't care because she didn't care about anything.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, it didn't have much if anything to do with her upbringing. I believe that Vril Dox (the L.E.G.I.O.N. guy) sold the soul of one of his descendants to Neron. Guess who?

I didn't say her upbringing caused her condition. I was saying that she knew if she gave him up, it wouldn't be one of those benevolent "giving my baby a better life" things. In giving him up, she knew he'd have the same shit upbringing she did. Like, she knew she was leaving him doomed him to a cold, affectionless upbringing as a glorified intellectual slave. She just didn't care. At all.

Which was, yes, likely because of being soul-less thanks to Neron. Vril Dox was a dick. That's why I loathe the character, and much prefer Mr. 5. (Especially the reboot version, since Threeboot was also a dick).
