THE MONKEES

The Monkees were, at worst, a thinly veiled Beatles imitation, but at their best they were a comnedy/rock quartet that had a popular sitcom for several years. In all honesty, I can admit that I truly found the TV show to be quite hilarious at times.
Like almost all hit shows of the 1950s or 1960s, Dell Comics jumped on the bandwagon and licensed a comic series based upon it; no surprise when you consider that it's DELL we're talking about.
This segment is from THE MONKEES #6, November 1967:

I love it. The only thing missing is a couple of those bizarre costume tableaux tossed in out of nowhere once or twice an episode.

When I was a young lad I read an old (presumably late-1960s) story in an Archie digest that featured the Archies in a Monkees tribute of sorts. 'Course, at the time I hadn't heard of the Monkees, let alone seen the show, so it went over my Head. Especially the tableau panels with Arch and Jug in silly costumes.

It's funny you mention the Monkees' movie, HEAD..
they called it that, allegedly, so that the trailer for the proposed sequel would have the tagline: "The new movie, from the people that gave you Head......."

I loved the Monkees show, music and comic book. Did you know that there is now a novel out where the Monkees solve a murder. It is called Last Train to Murder and you can get it at Hey all you Monkees fans. A new book is out called Last Train to Murder. It's written by my friend Rick and it follows the sixties rock band and TV personalities The Monkees as they investigate a murder on a train. You can get it on sale now at 10% off at Lulu.com.
