Marvel Apes Speedball: Meet the parents

As requested, this is from Marvel Apes: Speedball #1. It's written by Karl Kesel and illustrated by Ramon Bachs.

Stuck in the 616 universe, the monkey Speedball from the Marvel Apes universe has joined the Initiative.

It's later revealed that Eric O'Grady (this takes place before he joined the T-Bolts) was the one who e-mailed them, trying to cause trouble.

Then Speedball goes to see his friend Dr. Fiona Fitzhugh, who builds him a device that tracks super-powered apes.

Now when Taskmaster talks about people saying things they don't mean, was he referring to the glowing review he gave Robbie's parents, or was that sincere? And why do I really really want that to have been sincere?

agh, for some reason the italics aren't working.

"was he referring to the glowing review he gave Robbie's parents"

I think he was.

Nice scene, and it's kinda cool to see Taskmaster acting decent, but damn Robbie's parents seem old. Artists know that your figure doesn't go to hell automatically when you go past 30, right?

Particularly when Mrs Baldwin was a hot, internationally famous actress

And his Dad was a barely middle aged and handsome DA. Here, they're...dumpy. New Warriors wasn't that long ago...

Yes. It was.

It was long enough ago that they feel enough to shit on it and the people in it whenever they want. *shrug*

One thing I don't get about this - Robbie's still alive, right? I mean, he changed his name to Penance and went all gothic and freaky on us, but he's still around, and presumably he still talks to his parents every now and then. Why are they acting like he's dead?

Actually Robbie doesn't talk to his parents anymore. His father pretty much denounced him after Stamford.

Well - then why were they so thrilled when he showed up 'looking like he used to'? 'He's changed his costume back to his old one! That must mean that he's magically the same Robbie we used to know, and that he never did that horrible thing we thought he did, and all is magical and fluffy and lovely again!' (Not that I wouldn't want to believe the same thing, mind you, but still.)

Which was in itself pretty much OOC after the New Warriors first series, when his father finally accepted that having a superhero son wasn't the same as having a terrorist son, no matter what the laws in Springfield said.

But then, I'm pretty sure the Baldwins are still Skulls. They've been written and drawn totally OOC ever since Civil War.

While he's not dead, Moonstone had him drugged and put away in an asylum.
