Marvel Divas?
Announced in today's My Cup O' Joe Myspace blog where Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning filled in for Quesada

An all new limited series called Marvel Divas starting in July from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Tonci Zonjicy. It will feature Blackcat, Photon, Hellcat and Firestar.

“The idea behind the series was to have some sudsy fun and lift the curtain a bit and take a peep at some of our most fabulous super heroines. In the series, they're an unlikely foursome of friends--Black Cat, Hell Cat, Firestar, and Photon--with TWO things in common: They're all leading double-lives and they're all having romantic trouble. The pitch started as "Sex and the City" in the Marvel Universe, and there's definitely that "naughty" element to it, but I also think the series is doing to a deeper place, asking question about what it means...truly means...to be a woman in an industry dominated by testosterone and guns. (And I mean both the super hero industry and the comic book industry.) But mostly it's just a lot of hot fun.
”- Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Yeah, a little.

I'm of the opinion that if you don't show a lot of skin, it's so much sexier if you show a little. Like two women wearing dresses: One's is like a bathing suit, one is full length with just a thin slit up one leg.

The whole spandex thing is unappealing - both men and women, for me at least.

I can't really speak for the guys, but I think comic books are being a bit narrow-minded.

There's more than one type of fanservice, people.

Well, yeah, but I was thinking in terms of superheroes and comic art, where it's standard. And in real life...spandex is generally just awkward. If you're sharing an elevator with a guy in spandex cycling shorts? LOL, awkward.

Fair enough. I always figured "spandex" in comic books was just the artist going "I don't want to draw clothes".

Oh god, that reminds me...ages ago I found some Batman group on Facebook, and there was a crapload of various images in it. One was this particularly ridiculous Catwoman art, in her purple costume phase, but it was excessively detailed.

And there were two guys' comments under it saying: "Wow, just imagine what she'd look like naked." and "Yeah, that'd be hot."

I had to resist the urge to add a comment saying "she's wearing freaking body paint you dolts! Naked would just mean she wouldn't be purple!"

Ugh.

And this is why I hang out at Scans_Daily and not other comics forums. I think I need something to cheer me up.

Here, you want some Weasley twins?

Fact:

Weasley Twins (even if they're only the actors) make everything better.

Y'know, Scans Daily has sort of spoiled me. I forget that their are sites complaining about all the minorities in JLA, about how a female character "isn't sexy enough" or that something's "EW GAY".

Yeah, I have these two guy friends in class (they're both Wolverine fans who want things to be more "Cool"), and the other week I was complaining about a title being canceled and one of them said "That's because you like lame characters."

:/

Why, what title was it?

Probably Blue Beetle. I'm always complaining about Blue Beetle being canceled.

Maybe something else, I can't remember. If class hadn't started right then... *shakes fist*

It would be a lot less sad if it wasn't true.

Lies!

There's always a good time to complain about Blue Beetle being cancelled.

If I had the inclination, I would call local radio talk shows to complain about it >:(

If I was listening to the radio, suddenly heard some random person complaining about Blue Beetle being canceled - Well, let's just say that I would like the radio a lot more.

:D It would make my day.

Did you tell them "YOU are why comic books sell worse than video game adaptations of That's So Raven"?

Unfortunately, I completely lack the ability to give off snappy come-backs (at least for ten minutes, at which point it isn't snappy anymore).

Note to self: teach brain to learn definition of "snappy".
