A classic '80s X-Men scene
Uncanny X-Men was the most popular comic of the 1980s. Here's a scene from 1988's Inferno crossover, which marked the 25th anniversary of the X-Men. Lorna has been possessed by Malice of Mr. Sinister's Marauders, and is attacking the team. How does Ororo handle this?

From Uncanny X-Men #243, by Chris Claremont and Mark Silvestri

I'm still amazed and fiendishly pleased by the stuff some of the 80's books got away with implying.

I'm more amazed by the quasi-mullet-afro-thing haircut that Lorna's rocking. No wonder she went batshit crazy in later years.

Went? Lorna was only ever sane for short stretches.

I don't know, to me there's a difference between going off the rails, and dressing up like Magneto on your wedding day and proceeding to wear a bizarre, horrid purple outfit that makes you look like you're cosplaying as Morrigan from Darkstalkers.

That's not subtext, that's text.

Not only did Malice make Lorna attack the X-Men. She/it (never did know if the Malice entity had a gender or not)also made her get a really bad perm.

Oh the horror!

Wait, entity? I thought Malice was just the embodiment of Sue Richard's emotional problems.

Same code name, different people. I'm not sure if the X-Men villain Malice ever actually had an origin, come to think of it...

O man, Inferno was one big heap of cracktastic subtextual joy.

I live and die by 80's X-Men! Best era by far.

I loved Claremont before he went insane.
