Grant Morrison on typecasting and the Internet
The first issue of Mark Waid's new creator-owned superhero comic, Irredeemable, came out yesterday. It's about the world's greatest superhero becoming its greatest supervillain. Anyway, it has an afterword by Grant Morrison, who, in-between praising the book, discusses how society has a strong tendency to typecast not just actors but people in general, inluding writers.

Please. Bendis's Doom is superior to Waid's.

Can't we just say that they're ALL bad, and clearly inferior to BYRNE'S Doom?

Jesus Christ, when so many otherwise talented writers are making JOHN BYRNE look like the Gold Standard of writing a character in an intelligent and respectful way ...

Aside from that incident w/Carol in Mighty Avengers, Bendis's Doom has been ok.

Bendis' Doom is mediocre, with occasional moments of terrible. That said, it's better than the character has seen from a lot of writers. It's hard to find good Doom these days.

To be fair, for some unknown reason Byrne does seem to have a much better handle on the characterization for a megalomaniac who indulges in frequent long-winded soliloquies about his own superiority than he does for most characters he's tried his hand at...
