JLA #42 Cover Pencils

As I understand it there is currently an editorial ban on the use of the New Gods. So does this mean Dr. Impossible and whoever he's teaming up with on this cover (one of them resembles Steppenwolf) are not New Gods? I didn't read the Dr. Impossible arc of JLA, so I don't really know what his story is.

I don't think that is Big Barda.

From what I've read of Dr. Impossible online, I think they are just humans using stolen New God tech.

Whether it's them or not, they're pretty clearly based on Scott, Barda and Orion. They have all of the trademark characteristics (especially the aero disks, mega rod and helmet/astro harness), just slightly redesigned.

Little Barda was never given a definative origin was she? She showed up around Countdown and in that Granny Goodness was recruiting humans.

52, actually. Her and Power Boy explicitly went back to Apokolips when that incarnation of the TT fell apart.

And then he and Little Barda were killed along with the rest of the New Gods.

And died with the rest of the New Gods, I'm sure. Wait, no, looks like he was killed by being a member of the Teen Titans Trigon, but Little Barda would've bit it with the rest of the New Gods.

PowerBoy was a NewGod ??? How was this explained ?

Generally anyone from Apokolips is a New God.

The PG link was a cover story. Before he showed up, Darksied brainwashed Supergirl at one point and Superman and Batman went to rescue her. Power Boy, unseen, watched her then and got a crush. He came to Earth, got stalkery, the truth came out, etc..

Just like that, really, when he and Little Barda said they were going back to Apokolips when they left the Teen Titans the first time. It was the same issue that introduced them, 52 week 21.

Didn't they play together in a Birds of Prey arc? I may have the wrong character here, but I thought she was one of the ones who found Barda mighty intimidating.

I'm scared of the outfit. That better not be her cleavage I'm seeing. Not that I have a problem with cleavage but this is Barda. And we don't need another stupid fanservice DC outfit on a woman.

I didn't really care for the plunging v-neck thing she wore in Birds of Prey, but yeah, that would be far too excessive.

That looks like it's supposed to be Scott, Barda and Orion. Can't say I'm excited about the designs, but I've never been a fan of Bagley anyway.

Another possibility (other than stolen New Gods tech - which seems kind of lame) is that Morrison set the New Gods up on one of the 52 in Final Crisis (as interpreted in a DiDio interview), so this could be them.

Well yeah, Earth-51 was recreated as the Fifth World where the New Gods were reborn, but with the ban in place it's generally considered Grant Morrison will be in charge of their inevitable return. Also, these character designs do not match the redesigns seen in Final Crisis.

Also, the return of the New Gods is probably going to be a much bigger event since the reason they were killed off was because it was believed their status as gods and thus their importance in the DCU had dwindled. So when they do return I suspect they will be far more powerful than they were.

What ban is that?
DC isn't allowed to use the 52 worlds without Morrison's ok?
That would be lame.
Morrison ignored the whole Death of the New Gods story anyway.

Magog looks like that on purpose. Bagley designed these and probably patted himself on the back for being hip with it.

Thats definatly Steppenwolf on the far left, i'd know that helmet anywhere.

Maybe they're the New New Gods.

hmm, that "Mr. Miracle" looks a bit like Doctor impossible and that guy who seems to be sporting a version of the astro harness and ponytail-leaking version of Orion's helmet looks more like Steppenwolf.

Is this one of those "reinventions" i hear say about?

"Orion's" new design is better than the last two version the tried to put him in, but i still think the classic look is unbeatable.
