Phosporolated? Is that like a British spelling of phosphorylated?

On the one hand, these scans make it look like something I'd find really cool.

On the other hand, Ruins.

Ruins was written fourteen years ago. Ellis has done a lot since then, and it bears almost no resemblance to any of his recent output.

Besides, as Internet Jesus once told us all on the last comm, it was a comedy.

More like what he's been developing on & off at Avatar for a bit; for instance, BLACK SUMMER has some seeds of this.

If your only exposure to Ellis is "Ruins," then you really need to read some Transmetropolitan, Nextwave, and Fell.

Let me guess.
The United States' (probably a Superman pastiche, per the cover and other versions of this story) is both the most powerful and the worst of all. 'Cause, you know, Americans.

Wouldn't surprise me. It's a British writer so we horrible colonials must make the biggest muck-up of all.

What he's been up to is the issue's cliffhanger. All that's established is that the American superhuman appears to have been made from a guy, rather than grown from nothing.

Now this is just totally interesting to me. So, a few questions:

1) Is this a recent release?
2) Is it being presented as a graphic novel or a series?
3) If the latter, how long is its run?

It's the first issue of five, out this month. Looking at the other books by Avatar, it will probably be collected three months after the last issue comes out.

Glad to see someone covering this notion. No, really. It always bugged me that you really didn't have more Thor cults or Odinists or Asatru or any other flavor of Norse religion popping up more often in the general population in the Marvel universe. I mean, hello? Thor? Ditto Herc. (Yes they can be passed as being just delusional mutants, except the whole Sentinel thing...)

Man, why do these "concept of superhumans from a skewed view" things always start out with the Fantastic Four? :P Yes, I know why, chronology yadda yadda... it's just funny to see it again and again.

Flipped through this at the shop and liked the general set-up so far, but I'll probably trade-wait on this one if it holds my interest. I just can't put any more monthlies on the pull at this point.

I wonder if Morrigan-Lugus is supposed to be agendered or bigendered, being inspired by both a god and a goddess. The other possibility is that it's just male, I hope not because the concept of a superbeing being agendered is far more interesting.
On a less intellectual note, gosh Krishna is pretty.

So... if Black Summer is, very roughly, Warren Ellis' version of Watchmen, then this is Warren Ellis' Miracleman, with bits of other supersoldier-as-arms-race stories. Well, looks better than Irredeemable, at any rate.

I'm just glad it's Ellis doing this rather than Ennis. Because Ennis totally would have, and at Avatar too.

This looks interesting - an interesting concept, in any case. It remains to be seen what the actual execution will be like.
