Pluto: "That's enough..."
You know what scans_daily needs? Puppies! *children cheer*

Note: This takes place before the twist from my previous post. And it reads right to left.

Professor Ochanomizu (you know, Atom/Astro's adoptive father since Tenma ditched him, as well as being Tenma's replacement as the head of the Ministry of Science) is spending some time in a park, under (robot) police protection because of the threat of Pluto. Ochanomizu notices something in the bushes, so he does the first thing any sane person under threat from a killer robot does: he leaps in to investigate it.

PUPPY! *children cheer*

Aw, that's so sweet.

Anyway, they make it home okay and the good Professor leaves his bodyguard at his post outside.

The man interrupting Ochanomizu is from the ministry of defence. Apparently they need his go ahead to make more robot soldiers, but Ochanomizu refuses to make robots solely to use as weapons. When the guy doesn't take the hint, he shouts at him a bit and then cuts the call short.

The phone rings again, and the professor answers it angrily (thinking it's the ministry of defense again), but it turns out to only be his grandson. Apparently there's a freak storm going on, so the boy is stuck inside and decided to call his grampa since he was bored.

Quick note: I love that robot dog's visor. It makes me wonder if there's a whole line of dogs that look like the X-Men. Like maybe a dog that says "bub" instead of barking. Or a blue dog with yellow eyes and a pointy tail. Or maybe even a Professor X dog that his no hair and wheels where his back legs should be! Okay that last one is kinda creepy.

Anyway, then the two say goodbye, and the professor gets back to work. Next, we see him trying to get parts he needs to fix the dog. But he's out of luck: the dog is so old that all of the parts he needs have been discontinued and the standards have changed in the meantime. None of the old parts are left in stock, either. Lamenting the fact that technology has left this poor creature behind, the Professor settles in to improvise something:

That scene always gets me. I'm sorry.

'Robo Puppy commencing 2 hour yipping session....*yip* *yip* *yip* *yip* *yip*'

No one does emotional manipulation like Naoki Urasawa.

It's not working on me. Perhaps I'm too distracted by the EKG he apparently hooked up to the thing... but either way, it's just a hunk of plastic. Would be like crying over a Roomba. (Although maybe some people do that, I dunno.)

If I bought a visor dog, I'd get the Geordi LaForge model.

The Transformers frown on your dismissive attitude towards robo puppies.
