So Lex Luthor can be killed off, but not the Joker? That bothers me.

True, but it's a hazy future thing. As for the Joker, one version of him does get killed in a the not too hazy future.

I don't know. It kind of makes sense to me that the Joker's unpredictability can save his ass so many times.

I think you are right in implying its a future story. that is what GJ does but remember Clark might just be referring to Lex's death in old age

Lex has been "dead" before, so they could easily be referring to the time he was replaced by his "son."
