Those first two pages pretty much sum up everything I hate about what comic writers did to Batman and the comic writers who did that themselves. Batman should be very flawed yes, but should never cause the deaths of possible millions with body-jacking technology and friends because of paranoia and never even give one damn apology to boot.

Hell, reading this I just wish he got killed and everyone else clapped. I'll be watching BTATB to remind myself why I like the character.

It's not paranoia if people he trusted wiped his mind.

Except that was only a select few people who apologised to him and admitted their mistake as they only did it to him so they could make Light less dangerous (albeit in a wrong way). Compare to Batman, who formulated complex plans on how to take down his closest friends, designed a flipping satellite to spy on them, using technology that kidnaps the bodies of innocents and results in the deaths of who-knows how many, and won't even apologise or even admit his mistakes at this point, nor offer any condolences to a former friend who was the best friend of the man killed indirectly because of Batman. With the exception of the times he stopped Darkseid and other JLA big bads, he practically caused more deaths than he ever saved lives as a Gotham hero.

Which is why I hated the whole idea of the OMACs and still do. Batman should NOT have blood on his hands, even if it was inadvertant and not what he intended and his tech stolen from him, etc. It goes against everything his character stands for and even if he didn't intend it or had any idea that Brother 1 would be used that way, it was his invention that got the ball rolling.

But I do understand him not admitting guilt and saying sorry (though he did make up with Booster later), he is the type of character who will let that stuff fester and eat it up inside rather than show it outside.

They recognized it was a mistake and apologized years after the event. Some of his 'closest friends' erased his mind and then proceeded to live their lives as though nothing had happened.

Batman, who formulated complex plans on how to take down his closest friends, designed a flipping satellite to spy on them

And I can see why, given what happened to him when he did trust them.

I'm not defending OMAC, but I'm just saying, maybe the JLA shouldn't have given Bruce such an excellent reason to assume they weren't to be trusted. By which I mean, shouldn't have had Identity Crisis written onto them.

Because Bruce was a complete and utter cunt who was quite happy to put the lives of an number of loved ones of his collegues in danager by saying "you can't remove the information from the villain's mind, despite their avowed promise to spread it".

While I can just about overlook the Joker's script immunity and Bruce's direct culpability for that lunatic's kill count, it was pretty much IDC that booted Bruce squarely into irredeemability. They should have told him to fuck off out of the League the moment he was willing to put himself (and, you know, ignoring a very very obvious remediation technique for his rogues galllery) ahead of the lives of innocents.

You mean Bruce is a 'cunt' because he believes in the sanctity of the human mind.

How dare he react violently to being mind-wiped by people he trusted. How dare he think that any solution that aims to break people instead of curing them, that violates their self, is wrong.

They should have told him to fuck off out of the League

No no, instead they chose to keep on using Batman's skills and remove the obstacle that stood in the way.

Yes he is. He'd rather his principle be more important than the life civilians and loved ones. They were excising a specific piece of information (and possibly also the memory of having committed the rape) from Light's mind.

You'll notice I said nothing about approving of their appallingly bad decision to mindwipe him, I said they should have told him to fuck off the moment he put himself before his duty to others. After pointing out the number of people who have suffered and died because of enemies knowing who they are.

Not to mention he designed and intended at some stage to enact the Gang War in Gotham.

body-jacking technology

Which was entirely Maxwell Lord and Checkmate. Lambast Bruce for Brother I all you want, but the OMACs weren't his fault.

Yeah sorry, haven't read the story in ages (that is, the portion I managed to stomach).

As I recall, he was under the influence of Psycho Pirate at the time, who was jacking up his paranoia behind the scenes. Then it only took a little nudging to make him come up with some "fail safe" for superheroes, just in case.
