Heroes of the H-Mansion (1 of 10 or so)

This webcomic has been floating around so long I'm surprised nobody ever translated it.

Done by Gurihiru, a Japanese artist team best known for their work on POWER PACK, it's a very irreverent take on the Marvel Universe, if the characters all lived in the same apartment building.

I've translated the title liberally as HEROES OF THE H-MANSION, but as with a lot of things in this project, I've taken a lot more liberties than I deserve. If there's any real groaners in here, I may well have put them in overzealously.

This is not to my knowledge a licensed Marvel Comic in any way. Even in the original dialogue, the actual names of characters are meticulously avoided. It appears a Japanese fansite of American comics called Planet Comics commissioned the work and it stopped updating around two years ago. Still, there's around 30 comics to get through. You can check out the original site here -

http://planetcomics.jp/hero

So that's enough preamble. Enjoy, but avoid at all costs if you're deeply attached to any of these characters. You may find them unrecognisable, in some cases, adorably so ...

I might use my blog as a repository for this project, but if there's interest, I'll put it all here too. I'm planning to add some translation notes and do the cast page too, adding characters as they appear. If that sort of thing interests you, hop along - http://daniellau.wordpress.com

Oh, and tell me if the text is illegible. It seems to get jaggy if I make it bigger ...

OH GOD, THE CUTE!

I'd be interested in seeing more. Parodies are good. Parodies from another culture about a comic based in US culture are even more golden. ;)

Quite funny. Further proof that Japan gets all the good stuff they still have things like this and we lose Mini-Marvels.

"Make Mine MONEYY!" is easily one best riffs on a Marvel catchphrase.

This is awesome, love Cyclops' lame gift. On the website, who's the 4th person down? Is it supposed to be Jean Grey? Also, Thor looks like Valhallen, Viking God of Rock from Dexter's Lab.

Yep, that's Jean. Her name appears to be Gureko Jin, if I'm reading that right.

It's a transliteration deal on Jean Grey-ko. But yeah, her interactions with Wolverine-kitty are joyous.

I do remember seeing a huge post about these strips years ago in Scans Daily 1.0.

Anyway, good luck with this! You're doing a fine job. :)

I love the Make Mine Money bit

I think I'll take that as my new personal catchphrase

To protect world peace and harmony
I'll go and do my daily stretches and push-ups
Alone in my small six-tatami room

No matter how hard I stomp on them
Those persistent goons are as stubborn and annoying as oil stains
So I'm gonna do this week's laundry before the weekend comes
Some simple ol' smackin' and look, clean as new, huh?

You give me a reason to post this.

Also, you know. That is a really nice wording of the themesong. Flows a lot nicer than Anbus sub translation. Either way.

PEOPLE, Watch Astro Fighter Sunred. It kicks ass, a new season is even on now so get on board.

I can sooo totally see this as a sit-com. With poor naive Cyclops being the constantly taken advantage of 'straight man' neighbour! Good stuff. Thanks for posting it, (Not to mention translating it!)

So in this version, Spider-Man SPITS webbing. Okey-dokey.
Is that kanji on his front the symbol for 'spider' in Japanese?

Thanks for the comments, everybody.

Being only a casual Marvel fan myself (just enough to make awful puns), this is a project for Scans Daily more than anyone else.

Finally updated the blog with translation notes and cast info for part 1. Yep, it does say "spider" on Spidey-Man's shirt.
