When Billy and Courtney Met the Shade

It's during the Princes of Darkness, and Billy and Courtney have been trapped in the Shadowlands by Obsidian. Billy's powers have been blocked, and as a result Stargirl has learned that he's really a teenage in reality.

After battling Obsidian's mother, who along with Obsidian's adopted father and Sentinel, his biological father, have all been trapped here, the pair begin to bond.

Ah... thanks for sharing. (:

That makes me really sad though. ): Mary is STILL EVIL?

Nah though Billy and Mary are now depowered. And Isis and Black Adam are statues (I wish I was kidding).

Oh and now the Wizard/Shazam is back but crazy.

Okay sorry if I'm driving you nuts with the questions.

... Shazam is back? And crazy meaning he wants to kill Billy and Mary?

No...Crazy meaning he petrified Adam and Isis, and...depowered the Marvels. (Except Freddy, whose powers come from somewhere else, now.)

Batshit crazy must cycle with the old magics, since they had Nabu being an all-around fuckwit to all Fates current and prior when the Wizard was being the rational one.

And made it rather clear they disliked it. Of course which makes no sense.

Billy's age wasn't public to them so they though Captain Marvel was a 30 or whatever year old hitting on Courtney. And now when they found out and said it the same way it made them seem like they disliked the idea of the public thinking the two were a couple.

In short the JSA leaders are dicks.

Like Courtney/Al is any better. The old geezers are playing favorites because of Atom Smasher being Al Pratt's godson.

They've made it clear they don't like Al doing it, too...he told Court nothing could come of them in #28 of the current series, at their insistence.

And, honestly, Al and Courtney is rather different than it looked like Courtney and Billy were - he's only in his 20s, and by the time it was serious, she was 18 or 19.

Whereas Cap looks like he's in his 30s, and Courtney was only 16/17 at the time.

Al's not doing anything he could go to jail for. Neither was Billy, of course, but it LOOKED like he was.

Plus the only reason why they thought something inappropriate was going on was because Jakeem Thunder ratted them out because he was jealous.

Courtney turned 17 on her last birthday, according to the JSA All-Stars writers. Given that the Billy/Courtney stuff happened before OYL, she would have been, at most, 15 at the time.

DC has no idea how old it's characters ages are IMO. One of the problems with OYL was that it made DC have to age some characters and yet at the same when something like "Up, Up and Away" (the Superman OYL story) came out Kurt Busiek said the Superman-team considered Lois and Clark still in the EARLY 30s (despite Pete Ross serving as President) and Grant Morrison insists that Bruce Wayne is still only 35. So Courtney was allowed to age, and Wonder Girl and Billy and Tim but the icons weren't. Screwy.

Making Courtney 17 disagrees with previous canon - as noted below, she's explicitly stated as 16 at the time she was involved with Billy (and I'd have to dig out my copies of Stars and STRIPE to check, but ISTR that she was noted as 16 there, too), she was already looking into colleges as of Infinite Crisis, making her 17 or extra-studious and about to turn 17, before the jump ahead.

Making JSofA 26 (which showed her last birthday) her 18th or 19th birthday. 20th would also be valid, given the vagaries of the post-gap timeline, if she weren't shown getting off a schoolbus at the beginning of the issue.

Really, I think the whole point of preventing Courtney from having a boyfriend is that DC needs a Virginal Heroine now that they fucked up Mary Marvel.

*And* of course the JSA founders are dicks. Or rather, can't imagine their "little girl" growing up.

Well Mary's still a virgin even if they did slut up her appearance. They actually made a point of it when she rejected Darkseid's offer to be his concubine in Countdown (which made her later decision to accept his offer for more power at the end of Countdown - even when she got her "light powers" back from the Gods - more inexplicable). Mary's virginity was even made a butt of jokes. Justin Gray (one of the Countdown's so-called writers and now co-writing Power Girl) told Wizard Magazine that Mary was a great spellcaster because she was a virgin and the solution to stopping her would be and I quote “put Mary Marvel and Jimmy Olsen in a room with a lot of tequila and some Barry White CDs.”. So, yeah. Classy, no?

And Mary is actually younger than Courtney is here in these scans (she's Billy's LITTLE sister) so must be 16 tops now. I think the only reason Courtney is safe from being slutted up is because Geoff Johns co-owns the character based on his dead sister and he's DC Golden Boy. Even when they keep them virgins (like Mary) all other teenage females seem to be fair game for DC's frat boy writers.

Courtney being a virgin was also a plot point in the JSA's last arc before they got rebooted. She was the only one that could stop Gentleman Ghost (when he raised a ghost army) since she was the only "pure" one.
