Lee and Kirby did that in the same story where Sue discovered her new powers. She used her energy to reveal a door that the Mole Man had made invisible (Heaven knows how). Byrne expanded on this, but that was his plan from the start.

There was a twist that was quickly dropped. When Sue made another person or object invisible, she herself had to become visible. She could only affect one thing at a time. Still, when a villain is running away with the loot, and you make the lamppost in front of him invisible, it can be effective.
