I love how soullessly mercenary this whole "Female Force" line is. It pays lip service (ha) to feminism, while at the same time offering no more insight on, or respect for, its subjects than any checkout line paperback. It's such a blatant fucking cash-grab, because if they had any sort of consistent ideology behind "what constitutes a positive female role model," then there's no way that the same people who published titles about Hillary Clinton and J.K. Rowling would do the same for Sarah Palin and Stephenie Meyer (or vice versa, depending on their politics).

If enough people lobbied them strongly enough, I seriously believe they'd publish a "Female Force: Nina Hartley" title.

Hartley turned up in The Economist of all places in an article about how the California porn industry is having sales problems.

. . .

Hmm. Wonder Woman 600, or Female Force: Nina Hartley?

Decisions, decisions.

I get the feeling I'm going to regret asking this, but - who's Nina Hartley?

Ah, OK. Actually, the whole, uh, sex thing aside, it sounds like her life would make for a pretty interesting comic - but you're right, it's not likely to happen. She sounds like an interesting character, though.

Wait.... Sarah Palin got one of these? Is there a panel where she shoots things?

Mimi Miyagi always impressed me, she's quite the businesswoman. She's a libertarian, but we all have faults.

I don't know. All four of those people are extremely successful in their chosen field; that's non-ideologically a positive thing for girls.

Stephenie Meyer and Sarah Palin have succeeded by reinforcing an unholy shit-ton of negative tropes about women, though.

That's opinion (I don't care for either, of course, but that's not the end-all, be-all). Obviously quite a few women like what they do. That women can be successful regardless of what political ideology (or whatever, since Meyer's works aren't political) they choose is a positive.
