Amazing Spider-Man #606

If you've read the first look, you've probably seen the debate here over whether or not Norah's "rice and beans" comment was racist. Well, Norah falls back onto the "I'm not racist, I'm equally obnoxious to everyone!"

I really hate Norah. Michelle's grown on me a little (mainly because she's a victim in all this) but I'm hoping Norman drops Norah off a bridge.

Also, the issue marks the return of the Black Cat...

Also, Steve Wacker makes this comment on the letters page that I'm sure will get some people talking here.

Maybe he was just hoping to meet a woman who'd make the first move. So what? If you're going to wait for the other person to make the first move, you're leaving it up to them whether or not they want to ask you out. If they don't, you can't complain.

Hoping is fine. But hoping is just hoping. Just because you're sitting there hoping doesn't mean anyone has a duty to fulfill your hopes. If you're being passive, then maybe you'll get lucky, and maybe you won't, but that's all there is to it.

It's the 21st century. Yeah, so what? Women can make the first move, and often do. That doesn't mean they're obligated to. Whether you're a man or a woman, if you don't do something about it when you like someone, you have no-one to blame but yourself if you don't get your guy/girl.
Plenty of men are waiting for a woman to make the first move. Plenty of women are waiting for a man to make the first move. There's nothing wrong with that, but at the same time, you know what? If you don't act like you want a romantic/sexual relationship with someone, how the fuck are they supposed to know you do? You're relying on them wanting it, and having the assertiveness to ask you - you're expecting them to do all the work. If they don't want to, then that's not their fault any more than you not wanting to make the first move is yours.

You are the only person whose behaviour you can control. You can wish people would do things for you, and sometimes they will, but most of the time, you won't get what you want unless you ask. Either you learn to deal with not getting a date, or you go out and assert yourself and ask for one.
