Amazing Spider-Man #606

If you've read the first look, you've probably seen the debate here over whether or not Norah's "rice and beans" comment was racist. Well, Norah falls back onto the "I'm not racist, I'm equally obnoxious to everyone!"

I really hate Norah. Michelle's grown on me a little (mainly because she's a victim in all this) but I'm hoping Norman drops Norah off a bridge.

Also, the issue marks the return of the Black Cat...

Also, Steve Wacker makes this comment on the letters page that I'm sure will get some people talking here.

Nora said something dodgy in 576 too. I only know because right now it's free to read on Marvel's Digital Comics site:

I'd forgotten about that one. Funny that when Peter called her a racist she used the same, "I'm like this to EVERYONE" excuse that she used in this issue. She reminds me of those "friends" you have who say stuff to you that's really mean, but when you get upset they are just like, "Dude, I'm just KIDDING! Don't take everything so seriously". Yeah, here's hoping Nora gets hit by a bus.

Or my favorite: It's okay for me to say that; I have a black/hispanic/asian/gay/etc. friend.

Oh, I could totally see her using that one. "Don't be mad! Some of my best friends are hispanic! They think those rice and beans jokes are hilarious! Really!"

The sad part is that I think the writer wants us to LIKE her character. Not working so far.

Though I'm hoping to God it's not as popular IRL as it seems to be online, I'm just waiting for the 1/38th Cherokee argument.

Ahahahahahaha. I work with a guy that is ALWAYS bringing up how he's part Native American. He'll just bring it up out of the blue and start going on about how he's part whatever and all of us are just like, "Uh-huh..." I mean, there's nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, but when you get to the point where you're like, "I'm 1/25th something", that's going a little overboard.

Dammit. She's consistently racist.

What the hell?

If you keep reading, she also calls Pete "Peter Parkinsons", referring to his photos being blurry.
