Christine Chapel ✦ Christopher Pike
Big News! G Complete |
They hadn’t been trying, not really but they hadn’t been not trying either. They’d discussed it before the wedding and were both in agreement that they wanted to add to their family as soon as possible. Things had been so crazy over the last few months though that Christine hadn’t been paying attention until today when it had hit here that she’d skipped a period and was due for another one but she’d had none of the telltale signs she was used to. She didn’t say anything to Chris about her suspicions and when she got to work, she took a pregnancy test and it was positive but being who she was, she had blood drawn too, just to make certain and besides she had had an idea of the perfect way to tell Chris. She left work early after checking with Sulu to see if he minded watching Lauren for the night and he was fine with it. Christine wanted to tell Chris in private and then they could give their daughter the news together. She would be thrilled, since she’d been asking for a baby brother or sister for months now. When she got home, she made dinner and set the table for two then took the slip with her lab result on it and put it in an envelope. Putting it by his plate, she grinned, imagining how he’d feel when he saw it and it was going to be hard not to give anything away as soon as he walked in the door. It wasn’t long before she heard him come in and she went to the door to meet him. “Hi,” she said and gave him a kiss. “We have a surprise dinner for two tonight. Lauren is staying with Demora and I thought it would be nice to have just us for a change.” Chris came home from work with Luna at his side, setting down water and food for her before going to kiss Christine hello. Wrapping his arms around her, he raised an eyebrow. "Did I miss an occasion?" She shook her head. “Nope. Just that I love you and it’s been a while since we’ve gotten to do anything like this.” Kissing his cheek, she turned toward the kitchen. “Oh when I was walking out, somebody handed me that envelope by your plate and asked me to give it to you. I have no idea what it is, I don’t read your mail.” With a grin, she walked toward the kitchen and then leaned against the wall while he picked it up, waiting to see his reaction. Chris raised an eyebrow at Christine as he picked up the envelope. "Oh?" Chris asked, picking it up and wondering if this was one of Atlantis' tricks. Opening the envelope, he pulled out the sheet of paper and scanned it. "Christine…. Is this….? Are you….? Are we….?" “Yes we are,” she said, tears welling in her eyes. “I realized this morning that I hadn’t started and so I took a test at work…..well two actually and yes, we are having a baby.” Christine walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist and smiled up at him. “January 8 if I’m calculating things right. So a new year’s present, maybe even Christmas if he or she is early. Lauren was a couple of days late but you can’t always go by that.” Christopher wrapped his arms around Christine, kissing her soundly and spinning her around. "Are you serious? This is wonderful…. How.. I mean, I know how, but…" He couldn't seem to keep the grin off his face as he covered her face in kisses. "I love you so much.." Christine laughed, the sound bright with joy. “Of course you know how and yes, it’s true. That’s why I brought the test results home. I wanted you to see for yourself because I couldn’t believe it either.” she reached out and touched his face. “I love you too and I am so excited and you will be here this time, we can experience this together and I can’t wait.” The physical part of her pregnancy with Lauren hadn’t been terribly difficult aside from morning sickness but emotionally it had been hell. She was away from everyone she cared about all be it by choice and there were times when she wondered why things had worked out this way. It had been worth it though when she had seen Lauren for the first time, looking so much like her father that it hurt, but the little girl had been the light of her life and now she knew her father and Christine was grateful every day for that fact. “I wanted us to tell Lauren together. I can’t wait to see her face, she’s been asking for a baby brother since we got married,” Christine grinned. “The fun part is going to be explaining to her that it just might be a girl.” "As long as it's healthy, I don't care what it is.." Chris pulled her close and kissed her tenderly, brushing the hair out of her face. He'd never expected his life to turn out quite this way and the knowledge that the family he had here was going to expand filled his heart to bursting. "I'm glad I get to be here this time… so whatever crazy cravings you have, just let me know…" She laughed and rested her head on his chest, holding him tight. “I will do that. With Lauren I wanted watermelon which is hard to come by in a desert and not quite the same when you replicate it. So at least if I do that again, you can find some fresh.” "Well, whether it's watermelon or pickles and ice cream at 2am, I'm at your beck and call," Chris said, holding her close and running his hands over her hair. He couldn't seem to wipe the grin off his face as he kissed the top of her head. "What can I do to help?" “If you mean dinner, all you have to do is sit down because it’s already done,” she laughed. “If you mean cravings, I will definitely take you up on that. Heaven only knows what it will be but at least we’re in a place where we can get anything in the world.” Christine paused for a moment and looked into his eyes then touched his cheek. “The most amazing thing about this is the fact that you’re here and we can share this. That means more to me than you could possibly know.” Her friends on Sahara III had been wonderful, one of the other nurses had been her birth coach, everyone had helped her when she needed it but it wasn’t the same. This time it would be different. Chris chuckled. "You are amazing, you know…" Chris said as he ran his hands through her hair. "I mean cravings, doctor's appointments, taking care of Lauren, shopping for baby furniture… whatever you need. I wasn't there last time, and I know I can't make up for it, but this… hell, I wasn't sure I'd ever get the chance to experience this.." Hell, there had been months after the Narada when he wasn't sure if he'd ever be functioning downstairs again. "Christine, I'm the luckiest man alive, and I'm pretty sure I've never been happier than I am right now…" |
